Sorry TomS, I mis-read your post as I didn't see the 'or'. Thought it was a statement. The depreciation will be vastly greater than the GAP premium until you get down to a very low residual value but I'm not meaning to be rude when I say that it's up to you to decide whether you want to spend £83 to potentially save a grand when it gets low. It doesn't matter that the car has been modified on the Combination GAP as your invoice price will reflect the modifications present at the time of purchase. However, if going for the Valuation GAP the Glass's Guide valuation that is taken at inception will obviously only be based on the standard car. The fact that the car is modified will not affect your ability to take the cover though. That wasn't us though was it? We'd have told you that the mods are not included in the initial valuation.

We'll continue to quote for those members who do meet our criteria, continue to negotiate with insurers on behalf of members to enhance the scheme and sign up whoever we can. Of course we'd love to be able to sign up everybody but no one can promise to be good for 100% of the members.

Our criteria hasn't changed though some of the M, L, OL postcodes have been relaxed so we can quote competitively in some of the areas we couldn't before. On the age thing, the reason we can do so well for those over 30 is because there's no under 30s bringing the insurers claims. They've analysed where the claims come from and under 30s on these models have historically had a higher claims incidence.

I'm often asked questions like "How much is it for a 23 yr old on a...?" or "I've been quoted £xxx. Can you beat it?". As you can appreciate there's a lot more detail required before we can offer a quote. So the best thing is to call us on the Chris Knott freephone number (0800 917 2274) rather than PM-ing me or posting the question on the forum. We can quote you any time in mid-January - you'll still squeeze in.

We don't come up with the numbers the insurers do. It was 50bhp until recently - it's always to do with claims stats as to what they'll allow. We had to push to get it upto to 100.

The scheme is for both standard and modified cars with bhp increases of no more than 100bhp. It starts for ages 30 and over, and you must have at least 1 year's NCB – no introductory discounts are allowed. All drivers must have held a full UK licence for at least 1 year, and there must be at least 1 years experience of driving your 'Z'. Unfortunately, the scheme is not competitive on any M - Manchester, L - Liverpool, OL - Oldham & SK1-12 - Stockport postcodes, and excludes Northern Ireland. No more than 1x SP/PC/PL conviction offence per driver. The minimum premiums are £250 for Comprehensive & £200 for TPFT cover.

Fair comment

If you were expecting an image of a hunky guy or an offer of free chocolate we’re sorry to disappoint. However, you won’t be disappointed with our car insurance quotes even though the EU has ruled that women can no longer receive cheaper rates than men after 21/12/2012. The result is that many insurers are expected to raise premiums for you girls rather than reduce the rates for chaps. As brokers with the flexibility to set our own rates (as long as we keep the overall account in profit) we’ve rarely ever considered gender when quoting anyway. And we won’t be raising our rates just because you’re a woman. So the message is… give the forum insurance scheme with Chris Knott a try when your inflated renewal hits the mat and we could be your best option for a great deal.
