  1. High dynamic range means you have a broad range of detail from high and low colors. My terminology may be a bit off but roughly the way it works is you take N pictures - here I used 3 - with different shutter speeds. With the fast shutter speed photo you only let a fraction of light through... That gives you details in your clouds.

I then took a regular photo and then took a slow shutter speed photo... This gives you detail in your shadows.

You can then use PhotoShop or Photomatix (I think it's called that) to blend all that detail in to just one photo giving you these very detailed unusual photos. If you google them you'll find some tutorials.

  2. I've been trying to get this HDR lark working for while.

I think I've got it mainly sussed now but need to work on the colors and stuff.

  3. Thanks. The bonnet struts were just some ones off ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380011005976

I would recommend them but one thing to note... They're marked "L" and "R" but that's not as if you're looking at the car, the "L" should be "P" for passenger and "R" should be "D" for driver. Just a tip for fitting them quicker.

They just bolt right on, take about 15 minutes or so. They make it look much better I think with the bonnet open.

  4. When I first got my Fairlady Z there was some question as to whether or not one could use an X-Trail sat nav unit in a 350Z/Fairlady Z. I bought the required kit from a breakers. I got a screen, DVD unit, DVD, button set and the wiring loom although not all of this is needed.

NOTE: THE KIT I GOT WAS FROM A 2002 XTRAIL. LATER XTRAIL SATNAV UNITS POSSIBLY HAVE A DIFFERENT CONNECTOR.

First of all I took the back trim off using this site as a guide: 350Z How-To's.

After the back trim was off I removed the JDM DVD unit. This is a comparison shot of the UK to JDM drives:

    UK Version:

    JDM Version

This is a shot of the connectors at the back:

Now as you can see the JDM version (bottom) has more sockets. I simply didn't connect the extra cables and have had no ill effects. If anyone knows what the extra ports do advise me and I'll update the thread.

The Fairlady Z DVD unit had mounting brackets so I had to take the brackets off using a Torx 20 and swap them over to the X-Trail unit.

I didn't need to change the screen over, just the drive so I put the car back together and moved on to the buttons.

The button layout is the same on both cars:

Unfortunately the buttons themselves are mounted very differently and aren't able to be swapped over.

I bought some small stickers and some transfers and made up the buttons myself.

Here you can see the drive is a perfect fit:

And here it is installed with the stickers over the buttons:

It's a pretty good system but it's not a TomTom. There have been features I've liked on this though. The quick stop for petrol is much easier to use than TomTom and I like the bigger screen.

  5. I ended up getting a UK DVD drive for the X-Trail from a breakers. They swap right over - minus a few connections for TV and stuff - and then it just works.

I did a photo installation guide at the other forums.

What's the deal with that? Can I post links to it or do I not?

  6. Hey guys. I've been a user of "The Other Site" for around 5-6 months now and thought I'd come over here too.

I have a 52 plate GM JDM. I've done a few mods to it: IPod Bose modification, X-Trail birdview swap out, new wheels, new lip, engine dress and new springs.

It came with a non standard exhaust.

Here are some pics after I recently had the wheels and lip fitted:
