Import tax and customs

Probably going to sound like a fool, but how do you go about paying for these things when you order things from the states?

 

Do they send you a bill that you must pay when it gets delivered?

I think DHL were supposed to charge me the duty when I picked up my exhaust but they were so distracted trying to help me get it in the back of the Micra (huuuuuuuuge box ) that they forgot. Eventually turned up 6 months later by post!

if you get caught by customs then you pay on delivery or over the phone before delivery depending on courier or PO

Thats normal for DHL they never ask us for a payment on delivery...most other carriers deffo will.
