After market stereo woes, any pics?

Hi

 

Thinking of replacing the standard head unit (Bose) for somthing with an mp3 aux and more control over sound (not just bass/treble)

How do the standard speakers react to a new head unit? will i get improved sound just with a head unit in the short term or will i need speakers too as i am unimpressed with the sound quility so far

My only concern is that i may lose the flush look that the standard unit provides, does anyone have any pics of off the shelf units in their Z?
