Colin asked me to detail his car in readiness for the big meet next weekend.
Car on arrival, pretty damn clean TBH,
just needed the wheels (AS Smart wheels), arches
and a quick foam up and wash
Dried, paint measured, usual anorexic Nissan paint nowhere over 95um, and inspected.
Typical defects shown below
Tried out my 3M range today, as i knew this car wouldn't be a toughie.
So used the front driver side wing as my test area with Ultrafina on a Megs yellow pad
Before
After
This pretty much sorted out the lighter swirls with a few RDS needing a hit with Extra Fine Compond.
Found an old eye piece from my days as a printer and thought i would see if i could get some nice close ups with it
After - excuse fingers
Got the front end done, before a sudden down pour, some nice beading though from the freshly polished paint
After drying off, carried on round the car until all the polishing was completed
Some Brinkmann shots
No LSP yet
Paint was then cleaned with Lime Prime Lite, and followed up with a layer of BoS, tyres with AG No.5, arches with AS Finish & zorsts with Britemax - Et voila, the sun even made an appearance !
Cheers for looking

Hi Mark
Have replied to email, although now seeing you have mentioned a megs drying towel, these have a habit of marking after a few washes. You might want to try one of the duragloss ones.

If you call Steve from Duragloss and tell him i recommended it he might give you a discount, also their shampoo is fantastic as well

Had a call from Steve asking my to give his 350Z a bit of TLC, after seeing a link to some of my work that someone had posted.
Is this the same Bryan that did mine 3 weeks or so back If so, Nissan are finally sorting the paintwork. Rear spoiler was water contamination at the factory. Both wings are to be resprayed. Had thickness measured all over, between 90 and 110 everywhere, very consistent so that's good.
Once it's been resprayed would you be able to do the same job again, just so we can start afresh!! :o
Hi Mark
Be more than happy to, hope Nissan are going to foot the bill this time
You couldn't email the pics over if possible could you please

Top job
Did you use a rotary or PC / UDM?
Rotary

Nice, I think my orange has more of a gloss to it i reckon. That Diablo looks like a flat orange. Very nice all the same
Its a pearl orange, but TBH the paint quality on it was sh1te! Don't think Audi had sorted out the quality issues when they made this one

Bryan I never asked, what are your thoughts on me having some pieces resprayed like you mentioned the front bumper, of course, but what about the roof and the boot lid?
I'm not averse to having the whole thing resprayed and lacquered in the same colour... then well detailed with that extra thickness!
Definately get the front bumper done, then maybe get armour fend or similar applied to it, as for the rest of the car, i guess it depends on how long you are planning on keeping your Z, because the cost of a "good" respray is going to be a couple of grand. If you do go down the repsray route get some extra layers of clear added this can then be wet sanded back to give a flawless mirror finish.

I use the P21s stuff too:
Love it
Very nice car Sarnie , not done a Gallardo (yet) done its bigger older brother though
-
good stuff i think you will like the p21s, although i believe dodo juice is better for a wetter look, will let you know
P21s leaves a nice finish, however the durability is pants TBH, esp. this time of year.
Agree Dodo does leave a very nice finish and durability is far better than the P21s, and they smell nicer as well
GIXXER you wouldn't be RB from DW would you?
-
excellent work ! did you use menzerna to cut with ? dodo juice gives a nice wet look
Yeah, majority done with 106FA, and the areas that needed a bit more work (and where the paint was slightly thicker) i used 3.02, using megs yellow polishing pad

Excellent job bryd, where abouts are you based? Think my Zed could do with a professional touch at some point
Just off Junc. 9 M25

Depends on how much work is required

Had a call from Steve asking my to give his 350Z a bit of TLC, after seeing a link to some of my work that someone had posted.
The process
On arrival
So straight on with the washing, first up pre spray with citrus de-greaser, then cover the car in lovely foam
While foam was doing its thing, wheels were cleaned inside and out with a safe non acidic wheel cleaner. Car was then rinsed, refoamed and washed using the 2 bucket method and a Schmit, rinsed then clayed to remove any imbedded contaminents and lots of tree sap! Ready for a thorough inspection.
Leaf pressing?
Birb bombing
Cats been using it as a slide?
And lots of these lovely swirls!
Now Nissans are notorious for having very thin paint, and Steves was no exception, wings, doors were averaging 65 - 68 microns, bonnet was slightly better averaging around 80, but the roof was very thin, lowest reading was 43micron rising to to a generous 47!. So total removal of some of the deeper scratches just wasn't going to be feasable although what wasn;t removed was greatly reduced and can only be seen at certain angle.
A shot showing front wing has been machine polished, highlighting the swirls on the door
Door after polishing
Rear wing
Boot panel
After all machine was completed, paint was cleaned with Dodo Juice Lime Prime which removes the oils etc, from the polishing stage, then 2 coats of Dodo Juice Banana Armour carnauba wax was applied, wheels had Jetseal 109 applied to help future cleaning.
And the finish result, taken the next day
