  1. Hi,

I have been communicating with the DVLA on this issue... I will keep you posted of the outcome...

You seem to be missing the point. Neither on V149 or on your website does it state "Vehicles registered in the UK on or after 23rd March 2006". V149 states "Cars registered on or after 23rd March 2006" and on your website http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ow ... G_10012524 it states exactly the same.

I would like to see where it states that the UK registration date determines the VED band a car is placed in as I can see no reference to it in the Treasury's Budget http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/media/3/4 ... t_1757.pdf

Incidentally, in that report, note 3 states Band G is for "Cars registered on or after 23rd March 2006". I repeat, my vehicle was registered in 2003 and has a 2003 registration mark.

There is a very real discrepancy here which I want clarifying - How does the registration date in Japan determine the registration mark given to the vehicle but then the UK registration date is used to determine what VED duty is levied.

You have answered that my vehicle was registered 1/10/2006 in the UK and therefore the VED band is correct, yet for the purposes of the registration mark you acknowledge the vehicles true registration date of 2003. Please tell me why the 2003 registration date isn't the same date used for VED purposes? There is an inconsistency here which appears to suggest that the DVLA is interpreting the rules in an unfair way as it would appear there is a grey area here.

I would like to know to whom I can escalate this enquiry.

  2. Hi All,

I was wondering what happens if you change your headunit if you have sat nav? Can you still hear the instructions the woman gives you? I'm hoping that the cables that go to the head unit come from the sat nav system... Any ideas or thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Tim

  3. Halfrauds do this as well now... With a free Comma cleaner. They also do a more expensive one with a pressure gauge.

My $tealer told me that this might stop the sweaty smell my AC gives off for 20 seconds when I first use it... Do you think it will?

    Cheers,

    fM

PS I thought the little Japanese guy who had it before me had left his jockstrap in the vents or something...

  4. I've never had the need to take it out so I shall defer to your greater knowledge on the subject :notworthy:

LOL! I have a base spec JDM so I can't really comment on the Bose! I did read that thread and was left feeling that I wasn't really missing out on anything, though!

  5. The space behind the drivers seat is full of sub woofer when you have the Bose.

Trev - That space is hardly 'full' of sub-woofer :teeth: Have you seen the piddly magnet on it? My old AM transistor radio from Alba has a bigger coil in it than that thing!!!

Above is from this thread on my350z.com

Mind you, that Infinity sub looks as if it would make pate out of your liver... I suppose there is a happy medium somewhere between the two?!

  6. Hi,

I have the pin out for the screen, it seems to only accept RGB Sync which is a pain because most cheapy in-car DVD & reversing cameras are Composite and there isn't a cheap (~£20) way of converting the signal.

The upside of this is that you could fit a PS2 / Xbox / Pooter no problem but I have read that the screen is actually pretty bad...

I have found an option on my JDM OEM sat nav for 'VTR' which hints that you can hook up an external video source. I am planning on taking my DVD drive out today or tomorrow to get the pin-out for that as there is a glimmer of hope that the VTR input is composite.

I will post back and let you know, I will also post back the pin-out of the screen...

  7. i've got the factory fit bridgestones on the front and toyo proxies tr-1 on the rear, not happy with the setup even after 6 months or so, guess it's coz the fronts have stiffer side walls than the rears

just waiting for the fronts to wear some more then i'll replace them with toyo's to see if it even's it out, only time will tell, if it doesn't then i may go back to the bridgestones even if most people on here hate them

Neo! :scare: You skinflint! Get them changed!!!! :yahoo:

  8. got mine for £480 from ATS all in

ATS in Newcastle say they dont stock Toyo's but will get me a price today. They quoted £642 all in for Pilot Sports, but that £162 in my pocket would be a winner. Bet they cant match your price though

Dicky, if you want PS2s try Costco at Gateshead... You need to be a member though..

For everyone else - TyreTraders.com are pretty good and they have arrangements with local fitters. Some locations are also covered with mobile fitters... Try them. I got 4 Toyo's for my JDM with 17" wheels for £440 fitted.

  9. I think i know what you mean. The weight shift from the roof to the rear would scare me, i dont like the idea of them at all, hence i will never have a convertable.

I used to have a 307cc  and with the top down the balance was completely altered... It was a terrible car and I got rid of it within a year due to the wallowy nature of its handling...

I would only ever buy a convertible that had been designed from the outset to be a convertible, e.g. Z4, Elise, MX5 as opposed to something that was designed to be a Coupe then choppped up...

Anyone remember the Mk1 Golf GTI Cabriolet? That car took 4 months to get to 60 and hand a knee breaking strengthening bar in the dash...

I know things have changed and technology is better, but you cut a roof off a car and it needs more bracing!

    lol... I wouldn't touch a tin-top Z...

  10. I read that the sidewalls were stronger on the R's. I have just had some (R's) fitted to mine and once the release agent was scrubbed off (after the ~100 miles) the tyres have been great. Loads of grip, low noise and the sound that I worried was a wheel bearing on the way out has disappeared now...

For the 1st 100 miles they were a bit scary; felt very skittery! :scare:

  11. Hi All,

For info the brake pads for a non-Brembo JDM import are as follows:

    Front: Nissan Maxima / Altima

    Rear: Nissan X-Trail (2001 ->)

    EBC Redstuff part numbers are:

    Front: DP31636C

    Rear: DP31666C

I ordered and fitted EBC Red Stuff brake pads from Brakes4u.co.uk (although BigPhil was £20 cheaper, I didn't see his post in time... ).

When I was trying to find out what pads to use, there were lots of posts about the front being the same as a 240sx but I couldn't find out anything about the rear...

    HTH,

  12. Cheers, Lomoto... Any excuse for a blast!

Went for a run and it didn't sort it out... Then tried it on the off-chance later and all was good!

It looks as if, when fitting the alarm, they have disconnected the drivers solenoid which is now controlled by the alarm, thus triggering the other doors to lock... This would also explain why the little lock button on the driver arm rest only locks the other doors and not the drivers door... I thought it was like that by design (for some reason!)

But all is good now... :yahoo:

    Was worried for a while...

Won't be cleaning the engine like that again! :teeth:

  13. Hi All,

Done a bit of a Rodney... I cleaned the engine down and now my Toad alarm has packed in.

I tried to lock my car with the button on the fob. This works in that it locks everything but the drivers door! I CAN use the key in the lock and the whole vehicle locks...

My current thinking is that it isn't the alarm, but something to do with the drivers solenoid... I have checked all the fuses but none seem to have gone.

    Any suggestions?

    TIA,
