  1. Hi all,

My Z is a new toy for me and I don't have any past experience with them. This may just be a sound that a Z makes normally. When I fire the engine up, I can hear a hissing noise or like the sound a CD makes in a CD player minus the music. From the driver's seat it sounds as if it's coming from the rear nearside of the car. I can't hear it when driving as the road noise (and 6000rpm) blcoks it out. When I've listeneed outside the car, I think I can hear it where the rear axle would be on the nearside.

Any ideas or am I just being paranoid?

Stick your ear next to one of the front speakers with ignition on, headunit off......

You have BOSE? If so, it's called floor noise and is due to the amp turning itself on whenever the ignition is on, even if the head unit isn't on. All of them do it, and it depends how good your hearing is as to whether you pick it up. It bugs the heck out of me but I want to have the install done properly so have an induction kit to keep me smiling!

I think this is something to do with the hands free car kit isn't it? That's why the amp is always powered up. The hissing is just white noise generated by the amp. Not sure if there's anything that can be done to solve it, apart from playing a CD that is...

  2. the AA have a special nut that removes them if you got stuck

You could get a set of toyo's for a lot less money

Hmm, thanks for that Mike. I'll have to get on to the AA if Nissan can't help me later...

Just checked 'etyres' and the Toyos are quite a bit cheaper than the Pilots. I guess it's the Proxes T1-R that you were referring to?

  3. Thats good to hear chap. I think the replacement stereo thing could be down to the fact that they are a few men down atm. The dealership principal is working down in Southampton atm to cover for someone and I guess the guy covering him isnt on the ball. Just keep calling and chasing. They got my replacement cubby in pretty damn quick.

Let me know how you get on tyre price wise at Micheldever. I hear they are the cheapest around, but never taken a trip down there yet (with my car anyway). Would be interesting for a point of comparison between that and Blasingsmoke places.

Micheldever quoted me £627 for 4x Michelin Pilot Sports. Went to get them fitted the other day, but unfortunately, someone has knackered my locknut meaning they can't get any of the wheels off. This must have happened when I had my new Rays fitted a short time ago. Very annoyed. Have been on to Westway and they are going to "take a look" when I pop in tomorrow. They also offered to fit my new stereo at the same time, so that was a bit of a sweetener...

Really annoyed about the locking nut though because someone must have known that they'd knackered it, but still didn't say anything! If I'd had a puncture, I'd have been stranded!

  4. cool reg ending in ZZZ

And I thought I was the only one with my initials + ZZZ plate

I'm afraid you're not! And there's another one in Basingstoke ending in ZZZ. I've seen a guy driving it a few times. It came from WesyWay in B'stoke, I know this because I test drove it before getting mine. I also know that the guy who orignially traded it in with the garage had previously owned another Zed also ending in ZZZ and I'm guessing his initials were JC.

Seems quite a popular reg suffix.

I also saw an Audi RS4 tanking down the M3 the other day, who's reg also ended in ZZZ. The first part of his reg included RS4. Very cool B)

  5. On way back from Worthing to Basingstoke on 05/08 between 2 and 4 pm ish.

Saw and flashed a chilli, cool reg ending in ZZZ and an 04 kuro. Both waved. Great day for a drive on those twisty roads....

It was us in the Chilli. :teeth: Just outside Midhurst. Great to see another Z. Never spotted one one before whilst driving ours. Only ever normally spot when out in the other car

Well spotted you saw us first!! B)

Yours is the first Chilli Red I've seen! Really stands out. Maybe that's why I spotted you first...

  6. Well, today I finally got my brand spanking new RAYS fitted FOC by the fantastic Basingstoke Westway guys :D . They did phone me mid morning to check if I wanted them to fit four new tyres to go with my new wheels, (obviously at my expense) but I declined as I reckon I've got a few miles in those boots yet and they would charge way more than Micheldever

Anyway, just goes to show that some dealers will honour the warranty intent. So if you have got corroding alloy problems, persist and you may there eventually!

They are being a bit slow in getting me a second replacement stereo though...

  7. Yeah, that was Herd's Renault when they used to be on the fire station roundabout, where Lidl is now. They were really bad. Got some warranty work denied there once due to a fraudlent warranty claim from another garage for work that had never even been done on my car! Was a company car, so I didn't care, but would have been outraged if I was paying the bill...

  8. Yeah the majority of the lads down there arent bad. I wont name and shame the salesman that lead to me wanting compensation, but lets say he didnt exactly go out of his way to compete the sale once he had my deposit.

Terry is a top bloke, he was very helpful once I got to speak to him. Just need to drag my backside into the dealership to get it sorted.

I think it must be you. Its the only other Zed I've seen there since getting mine, as we know there arent many around. Might be good to drop that into the convo with Terry that there are other forum members that use the dealership and if he doesnt play nice with me, I'll not give them the nicest write up on here ;)

And also potential customers, I need to get the Z serviced soon and am currently choosing between Reading and Basingstoke. Let me know how you got on.

When I had my second service done in B'stoke, they were late getting the car back to me. As a gesture of goodwill, they did the air con service FOC, (inlcuded re-gassing) which has made a big difference to the cooling temperature inside. I wasn't even making a fuss, they just knocked it off the bill! They also MOT'd my other half's Corsa which failed due to a leaking CV joint boot. But they fixed the problem and didn't charge for teh work, just the MOT.

Pretty good I reckon, far better that the Renault dealership I used to use when I had a company herse (sorry, Laguna)

  9. now we know wot the birds see as they sh1t on it..........!!

Funny you should say that, it was in Torquay right by the sea and when I woke up on the Sunday morning, a seagul had done its worst. Landed on the roff, splatered on the windscreen and bonnet. Had to go out clean it off before it ate through the thin paintwork!

Massive car park and only two cars in it, seaguls are evil...

  10. Don't know if anyone has ever really looked at the Zed from above, but I stayed in a third floor flat overlooking the car park at the weekend and thought the Zed looked fab!

    Couple of pics:

  11. Good to know they are good for something!

Were you there a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday? I think I may have seen your car outside. I was trying to get hold of Terry (Dealership Principal) and foolishly thought he'd work on a weekend! Going to see him tonight about my compensation for crappy customer service. He's offered a service (36k is next) but I'm going to haggle for a couple ;)

Can't remember now Chris, I've been there so many times! I've only ever dealt with Mike and Lee. They've always been really helpful.

  12. I took my Zed to the dealer last night and asked if they would have a look at the corrosion on my Rays. They took photos, agreed that they should be replaced under warranty and said they would put a claim in for me. They also asked to see my service history to verify warranty before submitting the claim. I'm taking this in later today, but it does look promising. The service huy told me that a new set of Rays would set me back about £2600 if I was to order some, so its worth trying to claim on warranty...

Will let you know how I get on!

Yep, Nissan ask to see full service history to "prove" the car has been looked after. If you ain't got one, then your request is probably thrown out! (even though its probably got nothing to do with your wheels!)

That's what I'm afraid of! The previous owner had his first (9000mile) service done at 10600 miles. I could have doctored the paperwork, but chose to be honest! I'm waiting to hear from them over the next couple of days... Can 1600 miles really make a difference?

If they try to say that the extra 1600 miles is the reason to turn you down then thats bollocks. You wheels would be in exactly the same state ->Not fit for purpose

Had a call from the garage on Friday, Nissan have approved my warranty claim and 4 new Rays will be sent in 7 to 14 days time! Excellent! I can hardly believe how good the dealer has been with this, they needed very little persuading and didn't really argue with me at all! Looking forward to getting the new wheels on as I have a few kerb marks on my existing ones too.

brilliant news are you using your local dealer. I work in beijingsmoke and will need to get a dealer relationship going soon

    :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Yep, its the local braisingsteak dealer. I still won't believe it until the new Rays have actually been fitted though... I wonder what they'll do with my old ones???

  14. Tesco 99RON went up recently at my forecourt, cost me 99.9p/l today

I guess that was at Chineham Tesco then Chris? I also filled up there last night and was amazed that the pump actually cut out because I had exceeded the £60 limit that the pay-at-pump can authorise. I had to then put another card in to carry on filling up, only got another couple of quid in though... They really should extend that £60 limit if they're going to keep putting the prices up!

  15. I know the feeling only too well! I did the same thing a little while ago.

(See my post called "Pranged it", not sure if this link will work? http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic ... highlight=)

Chipsaway quoted me about £400 to fix it, but I didn't go with them in the end as the sales 'duo' seemed a bit full of it. Went to the Nissan recommended body shop in Basingstoke in the end, they were fab for the same price and re-furbed the alloy wheel at the same time.

Have you taken any pics of the damage, or can't you bear to?

  18. Thanks very helpful, thanks a lot! I'll have another look now to see if I can locate the pesky buzzer. It looks like there might be some kind of switch too, which would be really helpful when I'm reversing it into the garage. Perhaps my hearing will return then too :D

  19. Does anyone know exactly where the speaker/buzzer is located for the Nissan fitted parking sensors? Ever since they fitted mine, I swear I've been going deaf! The sound is way too loud. When I reverse into the garage, I feel like my ears are going to bleed!

I had a quick look around the spare wheel, but couldn't see anything obvious. I want to make it quieter somehow, either electronically or by stuffing it with socks!

    Any ideas?

    Tim

  20. Well Saturday came and went....

    but shes now here :yahoo:

    :D

That's great news Chris. I'll have to look out for you when I'm driving around town. What are the first couple of letters on your reg so I can spot you? I often see a 53 GM on my way to work, but I guess that can't be you!

Hope to see you around soon.

    Tim

  21. I had my head unit replaced under warranty for this exact fault back in January. Skipped quite a few times when cold. The brand new one is exactly the same. Have complained again to the dealer and they say they have ordered another new one from Germany. They have left me with the old one installed in the meantime so that I'm not without toons! Still waiting to hear from them about the latest replacement, was rather hoping it might be an MP3 compatible one this time...
