  1. Hey guys,

I have been having a problem with my drivers side electric window. It has stopped working and doesnt drop when I open the door. It does however sometimes work for a while and then not work again. Sometimes if i bang the door panel that seem to wake it up! I have heard that the switches or what ever it is back there can stick as they get older.

Anyone else had this problem and if so is there and easy fix for it?

    Thank in anticipation.

  2. A few questions for those of you who use centrafuse. Any help much appriciated.

    1) Has anyone used or downloaded plug ins that are found on the centrafuse forums?

    2) How easy are these to install and use?

    3) Any that you would recomend?

    4) Has anyone had problems pairing there phone to centrafuse? I have the Nissan bluetooth which i want to get rid of jsut need to get the centrafuse one to work first. It finds my phone but when I try and pair it says 'the code is not the same as the other device'!!!!!!

That's about it for now........starting to get used to using the sofeware...like it a lot.....

Any advice or help from experienced user much appriciated

  3. Thanks Chris,

I have just had a quick look and it seems fairly easy to tap into the Red/Green wire that goes to the cig socket.

    Cheers

    Stewart

Thats exactly what I did for my car pc, works a treat.

  4. Right, hopefully with the aid of some pictures this wil make sence.

First I removed the passenger sill trim as below

    SN202676.jpg

Then I pulled off the rubber strip enought to get wires underneath. Also pull off up the rear of the door.

    SN202677.jpg

You can then gently pull away the trim running up the rear of the door. This is held in by push clpips so dont worry if you need to force it a little.

    SN202678.jpg

In this one you can see where I have run the wire through to get to underneath the cubby and the earth point that I used (Gold wire at the top).

    SN202679.jpg

A closer look ath the earth point.

    SN202682.jpg

    Another view

    SN202683.jpg

Here you can see the cubby and the side. The wires go through the hole and to underneath the cubby. You then need to lift up the tray under the cubby floor to get to the wires, dont worry it is only resting there. As you can see from the pictureI have just run the wires out of the hole once I liffted up the tray. Eventually I will put some holes in it fro the wires to run through. Works for now though. You can see what I mean in the next few pic.

    SN202685.jpg

    SN202686.jpg

And here it is all working.....

    SN202687.jpg

    SN202690.jpg

    Hope this helps.....

  5. Hey Stewart,

I have just put my pc in the rear cubby. For the earth I used a bolt behind the side plastic trim level with the cubby. If you take off the pasenger sill trim (just pulls off), you can then pull off the rubber strip inside (again just pulls off) and you can the carfully pulll away the plastic trim that goes up the back of the doorway enough to run wires through a hole to underneath the cubby. If you then lift up your cubby floor and the tray you will see where the wire comes through.

I will pop some pics up for you tomorrow (Monday) been meaning to do it anyway. Need to tidy up the wires at some point.

Hope this helps, pics to come.

  6. Front cig lighter is an ignition live. I forgot what the colours are but if you tell me i will be able to tell you which is the live

Sorrry Nurrish, have been a way all week.....one of the wires in BLACK and the other is RED and GREEN.

    Cheers for the help

Red and green is live and the black is negative

    Cheers buddy

Off to have a play and finally get the pc running.......just have to find the time to fit the new stereo now! :)

  7. Front cig lighter is an ignition live. I forgot what the colours are but if you tell me i will be able to tell you which is the live

  8. No idea on the ciggy lighter, although knowing Nissan, it might be a permenant live with selective earth on IGN. Thats the way some of the lights work that I've found. Best to use a multimeter and have a prod about.

With regard to the GPS reciever, the best place to stick it is under the strut bar plastic. As you look at the rear strut bar, there are 2 top bits of plastic either side of the strut bar siver bit. You can lift the left hand one up (just pops up) and you can stick it on top the the bar and under the plastic. Dead easy to run the wires down to the cubby from there too. So you have a nice hidden GPS reciever with good reception. Oh and take the top cover off the GPS puck if you can it will make reception better

    Cheers Chris,

Good tips. I'll try and sort that GPS today. Starting to dislike Nissan for thier wiring of this car.....bloody nightmare.

If the power point is per live with selective ground does that mean I cant use it for an ignition feed?

  9. Guys,

Anyone happen to know which wire on the back of the front power point (the one in the passenger foot well) is the live/power wire that works once the ignition is on? I have the conection off the back and want to use it for the ignition switch on on the car pc.

All the other wires are in place with pc installed in the glove box behind the passenger seat.

Also for those of you who have installed a GPS reciver for the pc, where did you put it? I think im going for in the boot as the pc is in the glove box......any thoughts?

    Cheers fellas

  10. This might be agood option. Not to expensive does everything.....I have a car pc and am thinking of this to replace my BOSE unit.

    http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/alpine/p ... ER=Froogle

I have been looking at doing something similar, although it's a non-Bose system I'm replacing. It's worth bearing in mind, however, that the above system requires you to buy a seperate (Parrot) bluetooth module, which bumps the cost up considerably. As far as I'm aware there is no way to integrate it with the armrest BT system, although someone may prove me wrong :)

Steering wheel controls etc are covered by the thread stated, I've been looking at this:

    http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/alpine/p~CDE-103BT.html?cat=0

Or the 104BTi (essentially the same unit in grey with the iPod lead included!), the advantage being that they both have proper iPod control, can be linked to the steering controls and have bluetooth actually built in (as opposed to being 'bluetooth ready').

They are single Din units and don't look quite as smart as the W203, but from reading around the sound quality is excellent and the phone system works pretty well too.

    Hope that's of some help!

Yeah, I dont mind about the lack of bluetooth as I have a touch screen in the cubby hole running a computer with bluetooth and mic through centrafuse. Im not really a fan of the single din units, i think it looks out of place.

All good though, of course everyones needs are slightly different. Hopefully in the next few weeks all mine will be finished and i'll post up some pics with explanations of what I have done. My pc stuff is all done, just need a head unit to connect it to and wire all that up.....thats what bank holidays are for.....

  11. Yep - certainly on the to do list, but this particular modification has the pottential of slowing the site down somewhat.

If you can imagine, when you click unread posts, the server as to search for all topics that have posts made since your last logon, and display those topics - not a huge calculation, but enough. Now imagine that along with that search, it also has to pull the first x lines of each of these posts, the ammount of data required grows at an alarmng rate.

We can look at this, and it is on the list - but it may not be put in place - the busier this forum gets, the more concious we have to be about the complexity of any forum modifications.

I thought that might have been the case. Probably better that the site is able to run at a better speed.

    Good job

  12. Great new site.......

Was wondering if it was possible that when you hover your mouse over a topic the dialog box appears and you can read whats in the post for the first 10 lines or so. It happened on the old site and I thought it was very usefull. It ment that you could read quiet a bit of the first post to see if it was worse clicking into.

Not sure if it's possible but I certainly found it very useful before......

  13. How's the install going?

Just got my hands on an old laptop and bought a carnetix PSU and Globalsat GPS receiver, will let you know how they all fit together once i receive them.

    Mike,

Sorry been busy with work. Right, I have the screen all fitted into the cubby now although it took a little bit of modification to do so. First I filled, cut, and sanded about 4mm of plastic from the right side of the screen case. This ment that it just about went into the suround in the back of the cubby hole. It's not the best looking job cut job but it wont be seen so im not that worried about making it neater.

It was a nice tight fit but I used four tie raps to make sure it stays in place also meaning that I can remove it if I wanted to at a later date. Seems very solid.

As I have absolute no experience with taking computers apart and building my own I opted for a ready made carputer instead. The idea being I can take it from car to car as I change them. Got this one from http://www.carcomputer.co.uk/content/view/8/38/

    th_SN202651.jpg

    th_SN202656.jpg

    The spec is:

    1.6GHz Intel Duel Core

    120GB SATA

    2GB DDR2 RAM

    Built in Bluetooth

    Vista Home Premium

    Centrafuse Navigation

    Internet through USB dongle

(Planning to add a DVD drive at a later date if needed)

I also have one of these for the navigation. A USB GPS BU-358 SiRF Star III reciver.

    th_SN202657.jpg

Just need to wire in the computer and it will be all up and running. The computer is going in the glovebox behind the passenger seat. Not sure where to put the GPS reciver yet will need to do some tests once it is up and running. My next problem is going to be how to get power to the bloody thing. Does anyone know a way to run cables through the bulk head from the engine into the car? Or maybe there is another power feed already in the car I can tap off? I also need an ignition feed for the remote cable so it turns on with the ignition.

    Anyway getting there....... :)

  14. I'm looking at doing the OEM Bose HU upgrade to change the tape deck to an Aux input. Looks like a relatively simple mod.

However, I don't want to have a male phono sticking out of the cubby, I'd rather mount a female in there and plug in cable from my MP3 player, so when it's not in the car I don't have a bundle of cable taking up space.

Thing is I can't seem to find a female jack cable with a mounting nut and washer anywhere, looked on Lindys and Maplins and a few other places.

I know they exist - anyone got any ideas where I might find one??

    Cheers.

Sorry im not going to be much help with your needs but I am very interested to know how your going to do this. Im after a AUX input for my BOSE but have no idea how I would go about doing it.

If it's not to much trouble could you let me know how to go about changing the tape into an AUX.

    Cheers MatteMe

  15. I have heard that it can be a pain changing the head unit because of the BOSE element. Is that true? Can it be as simple as a wiring harness and away you go?

Thanks to ICT its now possible with wiring hardnesses - See my post - http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16403

You will need to make a couple tweeks for it to give the HU a ground (as the standard unit grounds through the chassis not the ground pin) and wire the adapter as per instruction but then jobs a joodun.

Nothing you should have trouble with if your good enough to put a CarPC in

Lovely job, cheers Rob, good to know these things are avaliable and you can still use the stearing wheel controls.

Will just need to decide on a head unit now with the required fitments.

Thanks for all you help guys. Hope to start work on fitment next weekend.

  16. Nothing wrong with a single din solution here is a pic of mine

    IMAG0001-2.jpg

Plus i find the extra storage which you gain quite usefull

Your right, not to bad, still think I would like to fill the whole thing though. Dont really need the storage. Just want something that will give at least the same quality as the origonal one and i'll be happy.

I have heard that it can be a pain changing the head unit because of the BOSE element. Is that true? Can it be as simple as a wiring harness and away you go?

Nurrish, have you wired the pc too run your audio through your head unit?

  17. Is there a reason why you want Double din?

To fill the whole that is left when you take the origonal one out. Dont really want half a whole there.

Because im having the pc fitted I can run all my music and and DVD's and what ever else through that, so all I want is the ability to pass the sound to the car speakers.

If I have to fit a stereo with an AUX in to do that it doesn't need to be anything special as it will just get used for the radio. No point on having things twice.

This is all still quite new to me though!

You can buy facias to convert double din to single and will give you a little cubby hole too.

    http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/ict/p~50-229.html?cat=0

    R

Yeah have seen those, not to my taste, just looks wrong IMO. Would rather have the whole thing filled.

I could just use the pc for phone, navigation and internet.

Would be a shame if I wasn't able to some how connect it so I can play all my media through the car speakers though........

  18. Is there a reason why you want Double din?

  19. If your going to the effort of putting in a CarPC I would personally go to the effort of putting in a decent head unit with an AUX facility on it. Alpine would be my choice..

    +2

The only way to get AUX in to the BOSE properly is to do the tape deck trick which involves some soldering and is a bit tricky. Far easier to get a aftermarket HU and install that :)

Ok got ya......any recomendations that are double din......dont want to spend loads as the car pc stuff isn't that cheep!

  20. I have a car pc setup to install with touchscreen.

Going to be running Centrafuse (navigation version) on it and I was wondering if there will be a way to connect up that system to the origonal head unit so the sound can run through the car speakers?

Basically can I put all my music on the pc and have it still play through the car speakers? It's the BOSE version that I have.

  21. I have a fair bit of experience with PCs and the like, so feel free to drop me any questions you may have. Will also be installing my system in the next couple of months and since i'm only in Bristol, you're welcome to have a look at what i'm upto if you like.

Your a star, will probably take you up on that one. Looking at ordering some parts this week to hopefully start this weekend. Although the package deal on carcomputer is very tempting, may well go down that route and get it all at once.

  22. Nurrish, Chris,

Cheers fellas........no doubt i'll be back with more questions, thaks for your help so far.

Im under no illusions that this wont be easy, but i do have a family member that has a little experience with this, so heres hoping! This one could take a little while though as I want it to be just right.

I'll let you know how I get on.

  23. Marzman is local and can pick up - he has provisional dibs. If he doesnt want it, or cant pay or whatever, then Nick U has second dibs.

(In the event that Marzman doesnt want it, i'll PM you to sort out somekind of courier pickup Nick. I appreciate you showed interest first, but im struggling for time due to work, so a collection by Marzman is easiest for me...)

    Cheers all

Thanks, I'm happy to arrange the courier from this end and work around you for pick up timings etc.

Hope to hear from you soon
