Haha thats funny! Well she is 9 now!

Btw if you find an old black ipod (retro I know) maybe under drivers seat its mine. When I part exd even though I cleared everything out I lost the damn thing, I can only think it fell out on the floor or the carpark ah well.

Shame about the leak? Maybe a drain hole blocked in the boot area?

Hope you get it sorted. Btw check the space saver wheel its the best one I have ever seen!

If you are ever up north Manchester send me a pm be good to see the old machine. The rear led lights are my fave and the ambient purple lights. There is a post I did about it on here when I got it.

I got pretty deep in to the car and didn't find any iPod I'm afraid. Here's some pics to give you an idea. I've done this sort of thing before but I couldn't believe how many sensors and connectors there are in a modern car! Plus those seats weigh a ton!

The leak is proving really difficult to find. For now I have put everything back except for the carpet so I can still drive it. It's coming in to the driver footwell somewhere though I know it is not the door window. From reading up online it looks like it is either a sunroof drain or the windscreen seal. I'll be pulling the dash apart soon when I get the chance, I just hope it's not too difficult to find and seal up. It's a real shame! Here's a pic of what I found in the footwell, at least there is a handy well for the water to collect in! :)

I've actually had to use the spare wheel after I got a nail in a tyre. And yes it's certainly a quality spare though a bit scary when it's on the back, had to be really light footed on that journey! If I'm ever up that way I'll definitely give you a shout.

  2. Yes it's strange seeing my car pop up in a forum! I picked it up at an independent garage in Derby, part exchanged a 2010 350Z HR for it. I loved that car but a dodgy knee meant I wanted to go auto. Nearly went for a 370Z but ended up with the G. I get the same questions from people even now and I've still yet to see another G37/Q60 around here.

I was lucky that an Infiniti dealer opened just down the road from my house and the car has been faultless. Unfortunately now though it has sprung a leak (of the rain variety) so I've had to remove the carpet. I'm still trying to locate it. But I found a cute little sailing boat under the rear seat - I'm guessing your daughter is too old for that now! :)

Yup has a G37S it was my zed compromise as I have a daughter, but by the time she was 6 she was getting too tall for the back, the rear window is very low.

Loved it to bits however lost a lot of money trading in as nobody would have it not even Infiniti themselves. Be careful if you are going to buy one as Infiniti is pulling out of Europe and Uk, plus parts are extortionate!

    Hey Stan,

I don't come on here often but I've just realised from the reg in this picture that I bought this car after you. I thought you might like to know that it's still going strong! :)

  4. Another G37S here. I too came from a 350Z HR but a bad knee meant I needed an auto and was looking at 370Z's for a while. But then the G37 luxury appealed to me, I guess I'm getting old!

My car is exactly the same as Stanski's. In fact maybe it IS Stanski's, I bought it from a dealer in Derby last October. It has been fantastic btw, smooth and wafty in the traffic and then very reminiscent of the Zed when you want it to be! :teeth: If you've got any questions just let me know.

  5. Next time you hear the squeak try moving the seat belt socket (the bit attached to the side of the seat) forwards or backwards on its pivot. I had a squeak which took me ages to find but it turned out to be the seat belt socket joint!

  6. When mine went wrong I spent hours reading so many stories of people with this and idle problems all over the world. Nissan garages don't have a clue and many people have replaced the throttle body(ies) and ECU only to find it hasn't fixed it. One guy bought three different throttle bodies, ECU re-flashed, new ECU, then just happened to try his old throttle body while waiting for a forth, Suddenly the idle air volume learn just worked and he was back to normal! I guess what I'm trying to say is - hang in there and hopefully NDS will help you sort it. At least you can run it multiple times easily rather than pressing pedals all day.

I've come to the conclusion that the Nissan "idle air volume learn" is, for want of a better word, @*!#! They use it on a whole range of their cars and you'll find the Internet full of horror stories. It might work when the car is in the factory but once the engine ages it doesn't seem fit for purpose. Unless you have an actual error code relating to the throttle body then I don't think they are ever at fault, and I also believe it's nearly impossible to damage them by cleaning them. Nissan stealers seem happy to throw new bodies and ECUs at the problem though but Nissan themselves must know the nature of the problem by now? Either the garages aren't informed or they are aware but would rather sell you parts (£££) than do a proper diagnosis. Rant over hehe!

Good luck with it though mate, I know how frustrating it can be.

  7. Aww annoying. At the point when you start the car during the idle air volume learn do the revs drop down to usual idle speed for about 10 seconds, then "give up" and return to surging? If so it could be the learn is being rejected. A few more things you must satisfy:

Engine should be at normal running temperature.

Steering wheel should be perfectly centred.

Also, do you have access to an ODB interface? A cheap Bluetooth one will do.

  8. I had exactly the same problem on my Zed after cleaning the throttle bodies. The idle air volume learn is impossible when this is happening. Bit of a brown trousers moment :scare: but I managed to resolve it by doing the following:

    • Disconnect the battery for a long time (2+ hours) and ensure the engine is completely cold
    • Re-connect the battery and turn everything off (fans, lights, radio etc)
    • Start the engine and let it idle for a long time (20+ minutes) until the engine gets up to temperature, don't rev it or touch anything
    • At this point hopefully you'll have a stable albeit high idle
    • Perform the three learning functions listed earlier in this thread (idle air volume may need multiple attempts)

    Hope you get it sorted!

  9. So tried the NDS III on my 2004 but it fails to connect. NDS II worked fine however.

May be being stupid but can't see any difference between the free and paid versions ??

Sadly for my the idle air volume learn failed, tried it several times so don't know where I'm going wrong, I did the throttle position and throttle body resets earlier in the day.

NDS III is for 2007 onwards

I've got this and can't get it to connect?

What Bluetooth ODB interface are you using?

Btw it seems the Lite versions have the same functionality but they have advertising on them.

Did the procedure report a failure or did the timer just keep counting forever? Did you make sure all of the required conditions were met? So, fan, radio, all lights etc switched off, doors closed and steering wheel set dead centre?

If so, I would try running the Clear Self Learn function. I'd recommend getting the engine nice and hot, have the ignition fully on but engine not running, then run the clear function. Then start the car and try running the Idle Air Volume Learn again. If it reports a failure then try a few more times, it might not work the first time.

If it still fails then try checking the following in the data monitor before you run the learn: Heater Fan Switch: Off Park/Neutral Switch: On Power Steering Switch: Off Electrical Load Signal: Off

If any of those registers show differently then I think it will cancel the learn. I've read of a few people having problems because of a faulty power steering pressure switch for example.

Good luck, hope it works for you!

  12. is it possible to view afr oil pressure etc from these apps ??

A list of all of the parameters I can see in the app with my car is below. I can't see oil pressure, though there is oil temperature but as far as I know there isn't a sensor for that on the 350Z. Maybe it has been misnamed?

  13. Cool to hear about this, saw the Consult III in action last night, my main use for this kind of thing is to trigger the ABS module in my DE.

    Can it do that ?

and, what physical parts did you purchase in order to hook it up ?

(one of those Bluetooth diagnostic adapters?)

To use the Android apps you need a Bluetooth ODB interface based on the ELM327 chipset. They are easy enough to pick up on eBay for a few quid. However I'm using a branded one from scantool, net (OBDLink MX).

To do anything with ABS though you'd have to use the Windows application. This uses a wired USB ODB interface. I haven't got one though again it seems you can get them for less than £20. I'm not sure what ABS functions you could perform, it looks like you can only monitor stuff. More information here: http://home.exetel.com.au/nds/NDSII/index.php?content=consultfunctionsabs

  14. Looks very interesting, and after having a look at their website, they do a consult iii version. I have just emailed them to double check compatibility but it lists 370z so I'm assuming it would also work on 350z HR.

Just to clarify Steve, I've got a 350Z HR and I can confirm that the Consult-III Android app works fine. They don't offer a free trial for that one though.

  15. Wonder if this will work on JDM's Only found one app that works so far

I guess it's possible, it uses the Consult protocol rather than ODB. If you've got an ELM327 based ODB interface you can download a free trial of the DataScan II Android app to check if it works.

  16. Just a shot in the dark mate but have you tried the ECU re set followed by the throttle body re learn then accelerator pedal re learn position? It was the accelerator re learn that fixed my pedal response issues.

    http://www.350z-uk.c...e__hl__throttle

Yep I've been through all of these procedures many times. I actually cleaned my throttle bodies as one attempt to fix it but this led to another problem which I've only just managed to fix, I posted another thread about it today. I might actually just change the two dampers on the fuel rails as they are only £20 each from Nissan. I've found at least a couple of people in the US who have had weird behaviour around 1500 RPM which was totally fixed by changing the dampers. Mine don't make any noise though, maybe there is more than one failure mode on these things.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion though! :)

  17. I came across these guys last night http://home.exetel.com.au/nds/ they've got a range of Nissan specific ODB software. I've purchased the Android app, it allows you to monitor a few things which aren't in the standard ODB list but the killer feature is the ability to run the idle air volume learning at the touch of a button Consult style! You can also erase all of the self learnt settings in the ECM.

Even more interesting is the windows software which seems to provide full Consult like functionality for less than forty quid plus a cheap USB ODB interface! The only issue with this at the moment is that it doesn't support the 350Z HR / 370Z like the latest Android app does. If they add Consult-III support I think I'm gonna be getting this.

My experience with the Android app: Well I cleaned both of my throttle bodies a few weeks ago. I did all the right things, battery off, bodies disconnected, moved the butterfly valves but treated them like my own nuts etc etc. After performing the IAVL my idle has been mostly ok, at about 725, just out of spec. But I've been getting a nasty jerk when coming on and off the throttle especially when coasting downhill along with revs which linger high when changing gear. No amount of relearns would cure it. In fact the relearn always worked and the car drove great if I didn't turn it off, but after every restart it just went back to where it was.

So, installed this app last night, at £6 I thought it was worth a shot. Pressed the button, relearn was performed. Restarted the car - bloody hell it is sorted! My drive to work this morning was silky smooth and I'm well happy! :teeth:

  18. Holy Thread Revival!

I kinda forget about the issue with the sticky throttle ... I guess I just got used to it being there ...

But over the last few days I've noticed that the gear changes have been a lot smoother and then I noticed that I longer have the sticky throttle problem ...

I haven't changed anything other than the fuel pressure regulator last weekend .. I'm not sure if that fixed the problem or not but it's deifnitely not there anymore ...

Holy thread revival again! :) Narcotix could ya tell me whether it was the fuel pressure regulator or one of the fuel dampers that you changed? If it was a damper then was it one of the ones on the fuel rails or the one on the fuel feeder pipe on the drivers side? I'm experiencing exactly the same right now. Thanks!

  19. There are a few on eBay at the moment but for silly money. The software (obviously pirated) is also available quite cheap along with some chinese copy interfaces. Still a few hundred quid with no guarantee that it will work though. Anyway, hope you find a solution for your problem mate, sorry it didn't work for you!

  20. Aww that's annoying. Did you try it a few times? I've no idea how easy it is to get it right, I may have just been lucky. Shame there isn't any feedback to show the calibration has been completed. I know that this procedure can also be done with the Nissan CONSULT-III service device which does give feedback. I guess Nissan would charge quite a lot though with no guarantee of a fix.

Tried it today but no change whatsoever :(
