  1. I have a set of HKS RS hypermax if your interested. I took them off and changed back to the original suspension as i have a lot of speed bumps by me. Also i had a knock on the rear. I dont think they were set up right and didnt know anyone who could do it. Someone mentioned i may have needed adjustable droplinks but i couldnt be asked with keep messing about with it. I dont know what there worth but there just sat in my shed at the moment doing nothing.

  2. With the Zed on a ramp you'll be able to identify if the drop links have failed, a visual inspection will show if it's the bush in the compression arm but make sure you also check the ball joint on the arm too... :)

I had the front end jacked up in the air as i removed my coilovers and replaced with oem shocks and springs. I had a quick check by trying to move the droplinks with my hand but it seemed solid. Ill check the bushing again tommorow on the arm but however the ball joint is abit harder to check to see if it has failed from what ive read in previous posts. Is that correct? Or is it a case of removing the arm and and having it checked over properly by someone who knows what there doing lol

  3. Ahhhh lol ok ill think ill leave that for a mechanic to do. How much did they charge to do it if you dont mind me asking? And was it both sides? Should be the same procedure to replace the arm rather than just the bushes as it has to come off either way.

  4. Is there a way of checking the anti roll bar links without removing it and driving to see if the noise stops? I couldnt rattle it with my hand and made sure the bolts were really tight. It seemed solid. If i do replace the banana arm then i will replace the droplinks also just to be sure.

  5. Lol trying to view it but struggling. When i zoom in it goes abit blurry haha. Thanks anyway pal.

Try again dude I've just changed it

Ideal mate. I will investigate mine tommorow to see if it looks anything like that. Cheers pal.

  6. The knock im getting is quite a dull and it kind of rattles when going over uneven surfaces or speedbumps. I wouldnt say it was a metal rattle, more of a dull rattle if that makes sense? Im guessi g its the ball joint on the banana arm? Might bite the bullet and buy the cheap version and see if it helps. I dont drive the zed much or very far so should last i hope. Has anybody bought the aftermarket version and did it cure the knocking. from what ive read its a very common issue.

  7. Look at the compression arms if they have dropped down then the bush has collapsed. Common issue.

Im getting the same knocking sound from the front passenger side. When you say check to see if the arm has dropped down if so then the bush has collapsed, im guessing you mean dropped down at the bush end? Should you be able to see the bush? Sorry for the dumb question but im new to checking for failed bushes lol. Also if i was to replace the whole banana arm is this to correct part i need? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NISSAN-350-Z-350-Z-FRONT-LOWER-REAR-CONTROL-WISHBONE-ARM-LEFT-HAND-SIDE-N-S-/371063876420?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5665216b44

If so is this all i need as it seems quite cheap compared to the prices i have heard they sell for. Cheers

  8. I dont get any rubbing. Just dont want to spend a fortune on things that aint going to stip my problem. Im very tempted to take the collies off and just put a standard setup on it as i have alot of speed bumps around where i live and it drives me mad having to creep over them. My car is in the exhaust shop today having new flexi joints being welded in on my h pipe as they are blowing from being hit to much. I think the hks rs collies are around £1500 new so how much do you think i could get for these?

:surrender: didn't realise they were that expensive  If you come up with a figure, +my suspension let me know in a PM

Clark Motorsport sell these BNIB for £795 (ex Zmanalex stock)

Never. Cheapest ive heard then, when i always done a search it always come up more expensive. Couldnt have searched hard enough. :)

  9. When you say you taped a microphone to it, how did you do that. Was that while you were driving?

Yeah, I have various mic's but in this instance I just used a very cheap lapel microphone, like this:

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/electret-miniature-tie-clip-microphone-yw71n

Just zip-tied it to the offending end (I did both sides), ran it into my video camera, drove around for a few mins and listened to the results on the computer afterwards. (yes, I used to be a sound engineer/producer ;))

Haha abit technical for me :)

Ill have to investigate. I noticed thqt link you sent was not from the uk. Did you have to import yours then or can i get them from the uk. Obviously nissan should supply them at an expensive price??

  10. If you were nearby I'd hop in the car with you to see if it's the same noise I had.

(I took my car to Abbey as well, and they couldn't be 100% sure that it was the banana arms either - I'm presuming because it had just started and wasn't badly worn yet).

That would have been great pal but yeh your a fair distance away. It deffinetly sounds like its coming from the rear. It couldnt be the boot knocking could it. I know on my leon cupra r which i just sold had abit of play on the lock mechanism so everytime i went over a bump it banged. As soon as i put some insulation tape around the catch it stopped. I wonder if theres any issues with the same sort of thing on the boot on the zed. I doubt it though??

Hopefully another owner near you that had the banana arm knocking sound, as the sound travels in the car in a strange way, I could have sworn it was rear driver side !

It's just worth considering though, I even taped some mircophones to my banana arms to check  (which is when I realised it WAS them in the end).

Mmmm are these on the front then? How noticeable was the knocking? Also can you remember how much it cost to replace them fitted?

Yep, one end you can replace the bushing, the other end you can't - and for me it was the sods-law end (actually I had Superpro bushes so I knew it wasn't that end straight away). It was very noticeable. Like a slightly hollow rattle, knocking sound - for me particularly over smaller bumps in the road. Once over 40mph I tended not to hear it anymore, just low speed driving.

I paid around £70 per arm (new items from ebay - not genuine Nissan items, just copies but 1 year later, no issues), and it took around 30-40 mins to have them fitted by a mechanic that hadn't worked on a 350z before  (after seeing it done, it's something you could do yourself if the bolts aren't knackered), so fitting was around £50 (I had an oil change as well).

Cheers pal. This is something i will deff look into. Thanks for your help guys. Appreciate it ;)

Take a look at this pal. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HKS-Hipermax-RS-Suspension-Nissan-350Z-massive-discount-/231202082625?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3A350+Z&hash=item35d4b7cf41

Mine are exactly the same as these. Hes selling them for £900 but have been fitted to a car before for photo purposes and also says they are over £1500 new. If you put it in on google you will see how much they are new but i think you can only get them from abroad.

Make me an offer pal if you are interested and your suspension is in good working order.

  15. If you hate the coilovers and want stock suspension, i'll be more than happy to help you out and switch ;)

Very tempted mate :) the only thing i would be worried about is it wouldnt cure my problem lol.

How is the ride height on standard setup and whats the ride quality like.

  16. Is the spare wheel secured into place ;)

If you are running coilies, best have adjustable drop links as the standard ones will wear quicker when you are lowered

Checked that last night pal. Removed everything in the boot and replaced and made sure the spare was secure tight.
