  1. Job done. Can't fit in the car really. Unfortunate as, in that blue, it's one of the best looking cars i've ever seen or been in, in the flesh. Have to look at a Suburu next then I suppose.

Bit of a waste of 5 pages of topic, but good fun none the less haha.

  2. http://www.cross-car...201246492453181

Thats 18 miles away. The 300 model, which I believe is the one with higher rev limit than 280? Could feasibly offer £8500. Not sure if that's a good price for that? Seems OK to me given mileage. Will a car at this mileage need a clutch any time soon or any major services etc?

I did think that the little slit lights on the front of these cars were usually orange in the 300 though. Any tell tale signs it's definitely a 300?

The ideal car would be: Black 300 model, GT pack, bought off an owners club member with a full SH. Maybe them light coloured seats with it.

  3. ha-ha Still haven't done a thing. I was going to wait a while any way for the car search proper, but with all the snow I just completely postponed it.

Yeah so still not driven a Z yet. Everything about the Z I like except comments like 'deceptively fast'. I do need a car to feel fast and get pushed in to seat. I'll let you know how it goes. One BIG thing the Z has going for it, is that it seems so much cheaper to buy and insure compared to say an M3, which whilst performs better, maybe isn't worth the cost.

    Can't afford a 313. Just depends what's best value really in any 280 or 300 I find.

  4. My heads a shed. I want a Z I think but reading the internet gives very mixed impressions. Reading too much is bad for you about cars I'm sure. Going to look at a Z at the weekend at the local Nissan dealer. It's the wrong spec all together, but this is just to take a look in the flesh, check the seating position, maybe take it out if they don't mind. £8300 on 38,000 miles though, not too bad. Just no GT pack, no leather, no rays alloys. Seem to think I have to buy a hardened stiff focused car otherwise i'm pussying out but some comfort would be nice. See how it feels.

It's a shame M3's arn't cheaper to buy and maintain.

Thanks for the replies above by the way, read them all, but would take forever to quote them all.

  5. It is actually stupid. Crazy.

i'm 22, with 4 years experience and 3 years NCB at the moment, 4 ncb in April. My EP3 with admiral cost 888 upfront for the year fully comp, 8000 miles a year. 2 named drivers, me policy holder.

Just got a quote for a Z, at £781 on the website. Now when the multi-car discount applies, what will it be?.....Really is crazy cheap.

Last time I got the cheap EP3 quote online, rung, they said 1300, i argued the online case, and got it for the 888. I think this is a good strategy. Been with admiral since I began and are good value. Don't know how they are if in trouble though.

  6. Thought i'd pop back on this thread. I've been glancing over this forum for a while. Just about ready to sell my car I think with a possible suitor in the line. Going to drive a Z soon I think. Haven't done so yet, as to avoid impulse purchasing one! The internet paints a picture of the Z as brilliant, but heavy and unexciting in acceleration. But what ever other car I consider, I can't get the Z out of my head. Just one of them cars I need to try.

I think people who moan about performance, are just misguided based on the looks and engine capacity. When you look at comparable insurance (of which the Z is incredibly cheap) and the fact the Evo's and Scoobys need servicing every two metres, it makes more sense.

It's the modern super hatch backs that take away from the Z's performance advantage now too. However, they're just hatches, and personally I now have no interest in any except my current EP3.

The local Nissan dealer has a red Z, but no GT pack, no leather and therefore not really interested. May take a look for the seating position. Being tall and awkward fitting in cars, fingers crossed its fine. It would be better to buy a club members car in truth, keeping an eye on the sale section. Although, warranty might be nice!

  7. Nice car and advert. I've been umming and arring about a 350Z purchase for a while and check pistonheads regularly. This car stood out and I recognise it instantly from these photos. I just wanted to let you know, from an outside perspective the HQ images really do help and it does stand out above others within this price range on PH. I can't see you'll struggle to sell this. I'd buy it myself if I wasn't so indecisive about what car to get.

  8. I am of course bias, but an EP3 Type R would fit your requirements.

Can be bought for 5K(or less) in very good nick, 200bhp, but lighter than a Z, so good performance. You may hate the lack of lower down torque though. The K20 engine if looked after never breaks and my cars only cost me £220 in 1.5 years. Insurance is reasonable, I think similar to a Z when I was quoted for one. Practical too.

You would suffer in terms of ride comfort and toys, but on a B road would be made up for in fun, they handle very well. Disadvantage to VTEC is low down torque, advantage is good fuel consumption at low revs, which would help your cause further. Only £270 a year for tax also.

May not be your cup of tea, a lot of people it isn't, but was flicking through the threads and as soon as I read this I immediately thought EP3.

Ideally you should pick up a modified one, still cheap, but with the K100/KPRO the power is spread all over the range i've heard, and some people even report increased fuel consumption.

  9. I've always liked the EP3 civic typeR but could never get over the gear stick position. It's the one thing that's always put me off getting one

One of my favourite features. Very close to the wheel so you can pretend your some form of race driver. Gearbox is great too. It also gives lots of space in the back as there's no lump in the middle between the seats.

  10. Joined looking in to Z's. Thought i'd stick a few photos in here of the 4 cars i've owned. Thought some of you may have a vague interest in the GTi being Nissan owners, don't see them anymore.

This was by far the slowest most dangerous car i've owned, 55 horses when new I believe, 1.1 8v, burnt oil wasn't good, but got me around:

    car.jpg

What was a huge upgrade. Bought on 56,000 for £675 and still going strong for a family memeber at high 80's. 100bhp, p/s, electrics, seems terrible now but seemed awesome, lol:

    P200310_15310002.jpg

Then was the GTi, cost me about £1100 I think. SR20DE, bought with full SS exhaust inc decat and 4-2-1 mani, lowered, kyb gas shocks, red stuff pads and braided lines. FAR too stiff, gave me headache regularly but I loved the rarity (for good or bad, lol). Only kept for 4-5 months. Was great fun:

Then the Civic, car I have now. Has braided lines, DS2500 front pads, a tegiwa CF air box, HID's, tinted windows. MUCH better everyday car than the GTi, and quicker I think too especially in third. The cross over in VTEC with an air filter sounds awesome and is addictive and brilliant can't get enough. Probably even more fun:

    Next? 75% likely to be a nice Z ;).

P.S just spotted past car thread, MOD obviously feel free to merge!

  11. I would think if I spent 7.5-8K on a 350z now, in 12 months, since I do about 6000 miles a year, it would certainly be sell able for at least 5k. So this means a maximum loss of 3.5K, which is acceptable. Main worry is spending all savings on a car so i can't move out in a year or two. However, i think actually thinking sensibly it should hold most of its value.

A 350 cruised past me in a queue yesterday at say 10mph and it sounded amazing.

  12. This is a steady slow process of a car transition by the way. The prices seem to vary widely. From 6-13K.

Would say, £7.5k get a decent car, or would I definitely need to spend over 8? Difficult to gauge quality over pistonheads and auto trader. Not sure how you guys faired.

  13. I always buy cars with known flaws. Like the Civics fun but a terrible cruiser. My old car was too harsh. Hence I never want to keep them forever. Want to keep Civic I love it, but I also want something else, not sure what to do.

I have an image in my head of the Z though, that it will be a perfect overall car I can keep for a few years. Performance, torque, noise, fun, yet comfortable and well equipped. I like the idea of being able to very comfortably and effortlessly travel around the country in comfort and still be able to go berserk if the right road arises. May have to blow my savings on the Z. I don't think I dare go less than 8K though for fear of buying a lemon.

Still waiting for work to discuss pay rises etc hence the lack of action and all talking, the excitement is building. Hopefully when I view my Z and test drive it won't disappoint! Scoobys don't excite me I have to say. Look a bit cheap, and I think i'd be buying a car with a known flaw again, in that i don't really like them, just for performance, so would probably always feel like I wanted to sell again.

  14. I have had a CTR, 350Z and an S2000 all great cars have to say the best out of all of them was the S2000, i know i'm in the minority here and it wasn't that the zed is a bad car, but the 2 of us just didn't gel. after 12 months i found the car a bit of a disappointment. by 18 months i'd sold it and swapped to the S2K. best move i ever made. i found the zeds engine note a let down, it looked faster than it actually was, had a plasticy interior. its the one car i don't miss after selling.

but if this is your first time in RWD cars then the 350Z is a great car to move to. although its RWD its a very predicatable drive, and when it does break away its fairly progessive (tyre dependent) and if you leave the TCS etc all switched on its very nannying and doesn't really let you get out of shape.

externally the zed is a great looking car and although i moaned about the plastic inside its far better than a lot of cars, and the kit levels not bad. its a comfy drive for most especially long distance i again am on my own on this but my hip could never find a comfy driving position for anything over a 3 hour drive. its a great GT car, has the low down grunt for overtaking on motorways. 270 bhp may seem alot but its well packaged in the zed and its not an out of control car. but treat it like a numpty with the toys turned off and you'll end up in a hedge.

as for the S2K yes i found it a much better drive, but it could be a little more tail happy than the zed, and it has a reputation as a widow maker, not sure why as i found it a very communicativ e and progressive drive. the S2k has a lot smaller cabin space, but it does make you feel like your squeezed into an F1 car. i prefer the leather and the dash in the S2K but its very minimal inside. although everything is right at your fingertips from 10 to 2 driving position. yes it lacks the torque that the zed has but for B road bombing and track work the stook is a dream to drive, the gear change is magic and its made for heel and toe work. (couldn't do it in the zed pedal setup was not right for my dodgy ankle) yes its more tiring on a long drive especially with a loud exhaust on.

i don't hate the zed but i always feel it should have been so much more, its a great car for modding, its a good safe start for learning RWD she's big she's planted, she's safe and you get a lot for your money.

as a driving car the S2K is the daddy i loved mine, has been one of my all time favourites to drive, very rewarding an di think more enjoyable if you have some RWD experience already.

the best advice is go try some cars out, see what you like. one mans whiskey is another mans dishwater.

Hmmm very interesting too. yes test drives are important. I need to make sure I test drive different cars not just test and buy the Z. I doubt i'd fit in an S2000 unfortunately. Prices of cars have depreciated quite a lot in this climate and at £8K now there are so many choices it's proving difficult.

One things for sure, I don't want just another hot hatch, even though some of them have stupid power. Need some character and appeal.

  15. Very very useful replies thanks. Especially useful was the Ep3 and integra past owners. The EP3 is great but is only enjoyable when going nuts, no so much daily. Some torque sounds very appealing and the Ep3 is getting far too common, when I see a 350 on the road it always draws my attention has great presence. Get the exam results soon (part time student linked with pay at work) so this goes well I think i'll go for a test drive.

I do drive many hire cars at work, brand new golfs and astras and insignias etc but hate them all, too much wallowing. Hopefully the 350 will be smooth yet still firm and pointy. Starting to look in to maintenance, service stuff next. I.e. try and buy one after when ever the big service is. Looking at the 280bhp one for price reasons really.

Does seem like the perfect overall car, where as my past 2 cars I loved but had drawbacks. i.e. modified almera Gti that was loud and on stiff shocks and knocked my teeth out, lol.

One big issue i;ll need to check is room. I fit in the ep3 but none of these new cars, or my old almera was I comfortable in. Only the ep3 and a primera GT have I ever fit properly in due to long legs.

It would appear for the 280 earlier ones about £8k is a good price for a decent one? I have seen ones cheaper but don't want a dog.

  16. If you drive like a goon eventually you will crash any car.

Public roads are not your personal race track. Zed boring.......depends what you want how deep your pockets are and if you want to drive like an idiot stick with what you have got. Zeds are for the most part a well mannered car with respected owners who, rather than rag about actually care about what they drive and not how fast they can go.

Stick with what you have, you will be far happier IMO. ;)

    Welcome btw.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want you to get the wrong impression, i'm not in the habit of doing stupid speeds on main roads or anything silly. My question could equally as well apply to a track situation, I was speaking generally to get my point across. The question really should have been about the differences between FWD and RWD I suppose. I disagree with the implication however, that by someone pushing their car a little and enjoys it must be driving like an idiot and not be well respected.

The effortless nature described in the first reply does seem attractive I must say.

  17. Hello, just joined up. Considering a 350Z actually to replace my EP3 civic type R. Not 100% decided yet and was hoping to get some views on a few issues. I'm 22 soon and the insurance for the Z last time I checked was only, strangely, £100 more than the EP3, which was about 888 if i remember.

Firstly, will the 350Z be boring? I appreciate this forum may be slightly bias, but I mean this with regard to engine character. The K20 with the tegiwa induction screams at high revs and is a lot of fun, especially chucking around the FWD. The 350Z from what I tell is very linear and smooth. Does this take away from the fun and become boring? I realize the 350Z would be quicker in a straight line, but would it feel it, since the type R is not very refined. I read alot that 350Z would struggle to lose an EP3 on a b-road, but they're very different cars and this doesn't really bother me. As long as the 350 doesn't feel like a boat.

Secondly, i'm a bit put off of a rwd car. The Ep3 I chuck everywhere without every feeling like i'm in danger, provided i'm not stupid. Being RWD, is the 350Z very easy to crash? Be no point buying it and not been able to safely push on. I did read the in the USA it gets crashed, a lot.

Curious whether anyone has made any similar move? Other considerations include a modified DC5, Scooby perhaps. Just looking around. I'm excited about the 350Z though, for the interior kit, the prestige of a 2door RWD coupe, and i've never ever experienced torque in a car. I have to wait until 5600rpm to play.

Mainly curious as a lot of people on the Type R club say they were a bit disappointed with the 350 with regard to fun. Any information appreciated.
