Thanks, I will. It isn't going to be the stereo, that's a symptom, not a cause. It can't send the voltage high. The voltage is now back to normal, so on the face of it the regulator is messing about. However, a Google search shows $250 for a new one (can't see a UK price), and at THAT price I am very open to other ideas before I just throw a new one in. I note this nonsense started in a huge downpour, so I wonder about earths and other connections...

For what it is worth, when I was crawling around London in mine when I first had it (lives on the open roads of Southern Portugal now), yes, the box / axle got so fussy and noisy and graunchy around town I was worried I'd bought a pup. 5K later, still works fine, so I assume it is a feature, not a bug.

I doubt anyone cares, but it has been suggested an intro is good manners, so...
I'm English, but live in Portugal. Picked up a 2006 350z in the UK very cheap because it had been category D'ed, ie had had a big smack and been repaired. I was a tad nervous, but it has done 5K now (30K before), seems absolutely fine. Supposedly it took a big hit just behind the driver's door, but the roof panel colour seems a touch off, so I reckon it rolled as well. Anyway, handles fine, airbags replaced, seats replaced, generally very happy. And my local insurers could not care less about the UK history.
Regulator seems to be on the way out though - see post on subject.

OK, will do...
No, it was fitted when the car was bought in June. Has been pulled and replaced recently though, and by an idiot, so a short or whatever is perfectly possible, but, to me, does not fit the symptoms. I'd call regulator loud and clear, but I was wondering if this is a known weak point, or if I should waste an afternoon with an oscilloscope first.

Voltage as read by dial jumped from something normal to around 15. Not normal, but not dangerous either. Then the (aftermarket) stereo died. Fixed when I got home and found the reset button. Voltage now 13.8v, which I would call normal.
I'd say this is an iffy regulator creating spikes (15v is not enough to do any harm) and I should sort out another before it expensively kills the car electronics, pausing only to check the earth connector. I'm in Portugal and there is nobody here capable of proper diagnostics, forget it.
What does anyone think?
What headlamps fit?

I've got a UK (right hand drive) 350z, later, 2006 on headlamps, that has to pass a Portuguese MoT, which will require left dipping lights.
Once it has passed the lights could be swapped back.
So, do early (relatively cheap) lights fit the later cars?
Or, anyone want to swap my RHD 2006 on lights for your LHD 2006 on lights (unlikely, I know).
Or, where is the cheapest place to get some LHD lights?
