    I put up a thread at the tail end of last year talking about the parts I was planning on making for the interior. Now that ive got through the busy period at work I can start working on a few parts.

     

    The first bit I am going to be making is a CF cover for the strut brace, as it was the most popular item in the poll :thumbs:

     

    There are 3 possible ways of making this so which would you preffer?

     

    1. A CF cover that just goes on top of the current strut brace cover (with the Z cut out)

    2. A CF cover that just goes on top of the current strut brace cover (without the Z cut out)

    3. A CF replacement for the silver strut cover

     

    I am hoping to pull these out for between £50 - 70 in normal or coloured CF :)

     

    I will have a definet price once I know if you want this to be a cover or a full on replacement.

    I would go for one of these - preferably a cover with the z cut out, if not then a full replacement with the standard detailing retained. :thumbs:

  2. on a seperate note, i have a different mate looking for a mx5 for 4k any suggestions? i'll prod him in the direction of your club :thumbs:

     

    The club is helpful, but folks can be a bit anal on there. MX5Nutz is much more relaxed and fun.

     

    For around £4k you should get a decent Mk2. I have a friend who will be selling a very clean red one shortly, but he'll probably want a bit more than that as it's a later car. Personally, for a fun runabout, I'd go for a clean late Mk1 and have a bit left over to replace the wheels, tyres and suspension.

    They're great little cars that only need a bit more power to be huge fun. I'm (just - standing down shortly) Motorsport Coordinator for the MX5 Owners Club and am still a fan. Mine has a built engine and, when the BIG supercharger is refitted, will have more than enough power to be really fun! :drive1

     

    Damp in the boot is usually the rain rail deteriorating. This is a plastic channel that runs around the base of the hood and channels the rainwater that runs down the back of the hood to the drain holes. It might be the drain holes blocked, but this more often results in water in the cabin.

    First thing is to clear the drain holes. These at the side of the "parcel shelf", just behind the seat belt pillars. Lift the carpet and probe the cavity with something like a plastic rod to make sure the drain holes are clear. They exit just above the rear wheels. To get to the rain rail you need to lift the carpet and unfasten the bottom edge of the hood. It's a plastic channel that tends to perish and split, letting water run down the "parcel shelf" underneath the carpet. It then runs in to the boot via holes, dripping on to the spare or the carpet on the other side of the boot. Replacement is the best option, although repairing any splits with duct tape has proved pretty effective for me!

     

    Your mates is defo 1994/5 vintage. The door handles/pockets are early years and the brace behind the seats was a 1994 addition. 1.6 and 1.8 gave similar power (i.e. weak!) but 1.8 had more torque and tuning potential. My paintwork is as bad as that, but careful polishing should improve it a lot. Haven't bothered with mine, that's not what I have it for.

     

    Improvements , in order of priority

    Decent tyres

    Polybush the suspension

    Good coilovers (P5 or Gaz)

    LSD (if not already fitted)

    Supercharger or turbo (road or track respectively)

     

    Or, if you really want kit to drool over, Flyin' Miata :thumbs:

     

    Result - brilliant roadster that's a bit more civilised than a Caterham but will give you a huge grin from ear to ear :teeth:

  5. Hi guys,

     

    I've recently bought a Bury bluetooth adapter from one of our friends on here and can't get it working. When I switch on it doesn't beep or show up as a bluetooth device on any of the phones that I have tried. The led lights up red constantly, blinking off very briefly every 20 seconds or so. Does anyone know what this behaviour might indicate?

     

    Bury have suggested that the adapter is faulty but I would like to test it if I can. Is there anyone with a GT around Sutton Coldfield or Coventry who knows that their phone cradle is working who would help me test it? Mine is an '05, so it would need to be a similar vintage.

  6. My favourite idea, if you are at all handy with a soldering iron, on AutoSpeed. Completely secret and can't be triggered by accident or trial and error.

     

    Or this one, if you like somthing more fancy. Jaycar kits are available over here at reasonable prices.

     

    Either of these could be used with Husky's "blown fuse switch" to avoid having to break in to the car wiring. Then, if it fails or you want to remove it, you only have to replace the wired fuse with a normal one.

  7. mine feels a little sloppy aswell, ive just topped 50k last week, im going to replace the bushes and see if that helps

    I'd be interested in anyones views on relacing bushes. Do they suffer relatively quickly, and does that effect suspension movement and alignment to any great degree?

  8. Am I the only one that goes round all the windows with warm water before I start her up? I then let the car (and the seat ;)) warm up before going over the washer tubes again with warm water. I then give the washers a go before I finally set off. That way I have no probs.

    Although it didn't stop them freezing up this morning! The warm water I put on froze on the wipers after a few miles :scare: Added a few litres of screeenwash this evening - no problems now.

    Interesting article, especially the lack of difference between the standard and Brembo versions. I wonder if that's down to the stock pads being of similar material.

    I find my stock brakes a little dull and lacking in bite so I'm keeping an eye on this thread, as I expect I'll convince myself to do something with them soon!
