  1. But the two things are somewhat linked. From experiance of 225/35/18 the tyre make made little change to ride quality between something like cheap federals or nankangs compared to eagle f1s or proxys.Running on 17s was a wolrd apart for ride quality, probably due to more flex in the tire walls, maybe the change in unsprung weight had some effect.mm don't know.

     

    Obviously still enough play even on 19s with the zed not to adversly affect it.

     

    Any how's, great to know, thanks for the input all. Out of curiousity, of those that have reported no change in ride, what tyres have you swapped to?

    Question.. What were the original Bridgstones? Potenza? Thats what I have at the moment.

     

    hmmm wonder how much more it would cost to get wheels and tyres now....

    Just wondering about peoples perceptions of the change in ride quality of 18 to 19"s

     

    Roads around here are a bit hit and miss, and I have had terrible luck with pot holes when running 225/35/18 on my toyota gt4..

     

    I enjoy the improvement of ride quality with the bigger profile tyres on the Rays 18s. Just wondering how much degredation of ride quality and how much improvement of handling has been experianced from people that have uprated to 19s such as the Nismos I like the look of B)

     

    I know its hard to quantify, but as always, your opinions are valued.

  4. Owned by a chap called dave if we are talking about the same DSA in aylesbury. Used to be a Toyota mechanic, not cheap, and I have had some hit and miss service over the years he looked after my GT4. (toyota)

     

    Hes a toyota/porsche specialist now i believe. I wont use them any more I dont think, from past experience.. although friendly enough.

  5. Yeah, thats how I would describe it... alot of car for the money. Was a £35K car new... and that was 12 years ago.

     

    P.S. Enjoying my Zed ;o) got it friday but don't tell anyone in the introduction forum, they'll want pics! And I haven't found a camera yet.. Awesome car.

    Am I right in thinking it was a Silver nismo you got? Hats off to you! Love the nismos, but been looking for a gun metal grey one for myself, cos that the fasted colour aparently ;)

  8. went to the effort to find one with 18" Rays.. so i think my first port of call will be saving for either 4 new Toyo tires or a front lip.

     

    Im definitely going to need some help with choosing lip, skirts and rear splitters...

     

    Want the nismo kit, in eurethane, maybe the lip in CF, possibly the varis lip instead... But from what i have seen its silly money for the nismo kit for what it is... maybe im wrong. But seems to be a few silimlar lips like the veilside v1 that may be a better option... or splash guards... oh here i go again... confused over the options... :bang:

  9. Never use normal unleaded such as 95 ron. You will suffer pinking and potential detonation which can damage your engine permanently!! I have always used Tesco 99 ron fuel for years as our local was one of the first and it has always performed brilliantly with my cars. All fuel is shipped many miles across the world and have equal amounts of the same chemicals. The profit margin is just far far lower for Tesco hence it is much cheaper than big "brand" rivals like BP (very expensive and only 97 ron) and Shell but the product itself is near enough identical. You're just paying more for the same thing. Higher rated ron will result in more power but only depending on what your ecu is set up for. In the case of the 350 it is set up for 98. You will suffer power and performance loss if you put lower rated ron fuel in, and can be around 20+bhp loss if you put poor quality 95 ron in according to some rolling road tests. Turbo cars will get far better gains by putting higher rated ron fuel in.

    I would just say that if you use 95 ron (especially on a uk car) you wont definitely suffer from pinking. Seems nissan list 95+ being ok. Its not poison for your engine. However, if you push the engine regularly getting it very hot, especially in an import that is mapped for higher rons, it would be a good idea to user a higher octane fuel. The 350s are not to my knowledge any more suceptable to pinking than other sports cars.

     

    Been driving a Imported Toyota Celica Gt4 St205 (selling it now if ur interested!! ;) ) for the past 4 years and you know the difference. The imports are ecu mapped from 95-101 RON as japan 's fuel is 100 RON. The Uk variety are ok for 95-98 RON but put out 240BHP instead of the 255 stock import.

     

    Its a well known fact that many GT4 members have lost engines to detonation... essentially the engine when running very hot (which is typical of a car running 13+psi boost as standard) risks detonating the air fuel mixture on compression instead of when the spacrk is ingited.

     

    Obviously if the cycle of the piston is not in the correct position when the mix detonates then the piston is force back against the normal rotation and you hear 'pinking' as the piston fights momentum of the rest of the engine. This nirmally results in cracked piston heads, rings etc...

     

    The higher the RON value, the more stable the fuel. So a 100 RON fuel with a higher octane rating will be much less likely to detonate due to heat (or in some cases running lean)

     

    FYI

    Pinking sounds like a gnome stuck in ur engine with a little hammer trying to get out.

     

    Unleaded 95 Ron

    Super Unleaded 97 Ron

    BP 97 Ron

    V-Power 99 Ron

    Tescos 99 Ron

     

    My personal advice from experience? You can go the whole hog and add fuel additives to achieve 100 Ron... but to be honest you are best running your car on the minimum requirement unless you can tell the difference of using a higher octane fuel. 97 super unleaded is fine if the manufacturer has mapped the car to run on it.

     

    If you are concerned by the longevity of your engine then treat it to an oil change, let the oil warm up properly before running the engine hard, and cool down slowly by not redlining it to your front door then turning it off for the night. These things will add 1000's more miles to your engines life than any choice of fancy fuels.

    Was just curious... what each of you recommend as the first mod for a new owner if he was so inclined..... Maybe anything from a lip spoiler to a supercharger... a new gear knob to a new set of 06 light clusters...

    Been milling about the forums for a little while now picking up what info I can on the infamous 350s. Hopefully will be picking up a GM 04' GT UK Z on friday, and yes I will post picks for the nosey ones amongst you as soon as I can :p

     

    I was going to wait until I had something more tangible to show you, but as im stuck at work on an IT call out, thought I'd put this overtime to some good sue and say hello!

     

    One more thing... presuming some of you might say hello, I thought it might be fun (and educational for me) to replace the usual "welcome, where the pictures?" with a nugget of 350z information that I probably wouldn't know about yet... something to aid with my soon to be Z ownership or just a bit of Z pub trivia to baboozle my mates over a pint of nectar.

     

    p.s Live in high wycombe, if anyone else is local?

  13. Thats fantastic mate. I hope the members here agree thats a great price.... mainly as I hope to pick up a 2004 GM UK GT with Rays and 29k Miles on friday and will be paying £14.5k!

     

    I'm V happy for you! From the looking around I have done you have got a stonking deal there. A Uk GT with rays seems to be expecting 15K+ out of the current availability.

     

    So you got Black leather? Wots the condition like? Any mods? How was the drive home? ;o)
