Well phoned up Adrian flux for car insurance they told me they would put me through to an adviser and then hung up on me, I tried ringing back straight away and they were shut! Seems they can't be bothered when it gets near home time!!!

They've gone right down hill.

Used to be the go to insurers but last time I came for renewal with them they quoted me near 800 quid on my Z when it was standard with 10 years NCB.

Sky insurance have been fantastic though.

I personally wouldn't **** on sky insurance if they were on fire. I honestly hope they go out of business

Second year with them and both years they beat my best quote from comparable websites! So thumbs up for me here! Please explain why you unhappy with them?

I've found AF perfectly fine on the broker side, no issues there and the quotes are good but not the cheapest. The agents I've spoken with have all been clear and helpful.

On the claims side though, they could use some serious improvement. I described my experiences in the post "rear ended by an old lady" on 3rd Jan this year - passed between seemingly endless parties, all competing over the business of handling my claim. Who to call, who's handling what - it cost a lot of time and phone calls. I don't know how this compares to other brokers or even whole insurers.

Phone them up tomorrow and go through all the steps with them including negotiating etc, then just as you're about to accept the quote, tell them you're breaks over and you gotta go :D

I've been Fluxed - my first impressions are that Dan is very helpful and they phone back very promptly. Their quote for my supercharged Z is pretty reasonable too - fully comp, everything declared

Only issue I've had was a boring tech one - a minor wrinkle with iOS8.3 on their dedicated website: mods entry was/is a bit clunky, but apart from that, they've been fine so far :) Dan's even getting it looked at.

As a comparison, the telephone operator for my previous insurer/broker the AA didn't even know what a supercharger was - and thought I had anti 'rail' bars. The AA's requotes were expensive, then futile and laughable.

Thats a shame to hear AF are going down the pan customer service wise. Ive used them at various times in the past without any problems. When I got my zed, they were one of the few companies who actually would touch me. Sky & other "specialist" companies were quoting about £1200 upwards and AF came in as the cheapest at less than a grand. My brother had a claim through them a few years back and that went smoothly - albeit the 1st "offer" for his written off car was about 1/3rd of the actual value and we had to prove to them what the real market value of the car was - but then again, thats par for the course with any insurance companies from my experience.

I had my first modified car with Adrian Flux about 20 years ago and have used them on and off since, never had any cause for complaints although I've not had to claim through them. Having said that I was with them on my Zed last year and the renewal for this year was about £500, that might not sound too bad except Chris Knott managed £360 so I went with them instead. The year before I was with Chris Knott and their renewal price was ridiculously high and Adrian Flux was massively cheaper which is why I switched. I really don't understand why these companies take the **** with the renewal price, surely offering something reasonable would be the best way to retain a customer which must be just as valuable as a new customer!?

For what it's worth, when I did have to claim with Chris Knott and Highway it was pretty smooth so I'm happy to be with them again. :)

Its a game they all play. They figure that a certain percentage of customers will just renew without questioning, so they hike the premium up ridiculously for the renewal. In reality what it means is that they either loose customers to other companies, or they have to pay for customer service team to take the call from the customer - then "speak to their manager" before dropping the renewal quote down to a more sensible level.

Still, its a pain in the backside having to call them up every year and play the same game.

These threads always interest me, y'know.

The OP's post I completely understand. A first comment about his specific experience with nothing remotely related to costs, end of. Then like all insurance threads it descends into a load of people naming companies that gave them a great price, or ones that gave them a crap price, or ones they were with 10 years ago or ones they've only paid their money to last week.

None of this is particularly helpful, despite the best intentions of the posters.

Insurance has so many nuances, that it's absolutely impossible to say who is or isn't going to give a good price. Even then, you may have the cheapest premium but what about excess? Windscreen cover? Mods covered for their replacement value? Ignoring the basics like postcode, age, driving history etc all making a huge difference to the premium. Whilst there's definitely value in reporting on customer service as in this case, I've always felt that actual price discussions add very little to these things.

I am surprised that the likes of these specialist insurers think they can go in with the big renewel and think customers wont notice - given that they are specialists that people hunt down and trade off against other specialists its unlikely that customer is a passive car insurer paying £15 a month for a Micra, we are a very different segment of customer. I would imagine it works well with the likes of admiral with about 80% of their customer base paying smaller premiums on everyday cars.

But I would bear in mind all the comments on 'customer service' are very much qualitative, you can examine the detail but you cannot draw conclusions unless you have a big enough base of consistent comments. If 20 people all come on here saying the same thing about Adrian Flux then yes you might say it is going downhill. For instance I used A-Plan for my R33 last year and the guy couldnt have been more helpful, recontacted him this year and said I had a Celica GT4 and he couldnt have been any more unenthusiastic. It really is not something I can draw a conclusion on A-Plan though that is concrete in terms of how well it performs.
