"Performance car" action day at Castle Combe (Video & pics) 25/04/15

Recommended Posts

I was also here!! Had my azure which was parked just to the left of the entrance amongst a club my friend is involved with called weekend racer I think. We went out in a caged and stripped silver Ford puma which whilst not being too fast compared to the zed was brilliant fun!

Did you take the Zed on track?

I did see an Azure blue 350Z that was on track, ...maybe 11:30 ish?.

Then later I saw the same Zed parked up in the car park and people were working on it with tools and things. If they hadn't been busy I might have popped over.

Wasn't you was it? ;)

No it wasn't although I did see that one too, looked quite tidy!

To be honest I'm too scared of crashing to take mine out on the track!

Did you see a black Clio around that time that looked ridiculously quick?

No I didn't.

Why was that your friends?

Can't blame you for not taking it on that action day though. Was pretty perilous at times,

...still as has been said countless times now, proper track days are not like that one. ;)

I know I saw a few near misses and the video that went up showed a few more!

No I don't know who's it was, I think it was a turbo'd 172 but it was overtaking so many cars with ease it was daft!

Think this Skoda Yeti 4x4 was the maddest thing I saw on track tbh. From what I've heard it has a TTRS engine swap in it with well over 500bhp.

Not the best driving imo as he makes a couple of questionable overtakes in corners but still obviously a quick motor. He passes my Zed just after Quarry corner (1min 42 secs on).

;)

Edit: I saw him coming which is why I was off line, ..that & the Evo was pushing to overtake in the corner as well.

I would never do a track day at Combe Spring Action day, always some awful driving and no respect for people who actually care about their car.

The Z session at Japfest is far more civilised for reference in the future :)

sheesh I would never do a session at either CC spring action day or Japfest! Pretty much all the MSV tracks do novice days if you're interested in seeing what all the fuss is about, or Rockingham do a lunchtime taster session for relative peanuts, which are all proper tracks with proper marshalling and driving standards.

Or alternatively, do a cheap day at Blyton Park, all day driving for £129 I think, on the weekend. The standard of driving is so much better and considerate - any twazzocks will get black flagged, or if they don't, a quick word with the organisers will get them sorted out. Colin at Javelin trackdays especially takes no prisoners - if you drive like a dick, he'll chuck you off, simples.

Just found another excellent video of how bad some people were on this track day, ....ok really I'm only posting it because at 4 minutes 34 seconds my Zed makes an appearance. :D

I think it's a funny video though because this guy seems to be working overtime just to keep the car on track were as I was so calm in side my car trying to keep nice smooth racing lines/braking points.

Also it does show that Castle Combe did black flag some people at least.

What a fidgety driver!

Having been to a few tarmac rallies with a mate who races, it does seem like most of the Escorts are driven this way, fishtailing about about into and out of corners, the difference is those guys just seem to be full power everywhere and control the car sliding about with the throttle, unlike the above!

To be fair, the bloke does have his wife dishing out driving instructions next to him. We all know how well that works out ;)

That's a good point actually.

We should really let him off then, ....in fact we should probably give him a medal for resisting driving head on into the barriers at 100mph just to end it all. :D
