Nice to see some things like this going on, good stuff !

 

Just a couple of questions, what do you think of those coilovers ?

Why did you decide on that engine specifically ? (I don't know anything about them, genuinely curious :))

Yeah the 1JZ-GTE is a bit old skool and I wanted to create something different, I was going to fit twin turbos to mine but always wanted to do an engine conversion and the thought this car would be different as you don't see to many 350Z swaps in the UK.

I drove a mk3 old supra with 500BHP and the engine was just so much fun. Big turbo lag, flames, pops and bangs just put a massive smile on my face simplee engine unlike the new technology I work with everyday.

The subframe allows no modificatio to be done to the 1JZ sump, its a front mounted sump.

Prop should be good for 800BHP max. hope it will not twist...

Its a Toyota R154 5 speed gearbox . I do have plans to refit the 350z gearbox back on once I up and running for a few months.

An adaptor plate would be required for USA there were not developed when I put this together.

A serious clearance issue with the rear of the sump and back of the subframe.

I am developing a second version of the subframe with a lower back and stronger sidewalls and reinforced back plate to support the lateral forces the car will create. It will be fitted at a time with I can get the car to work and get it on a ramp.

As you may have notice this was build in a 2.5m by 4.7m lock-up garage so could never open the doors and really move down the side of the car...

So fitted and bolted in for the moment. Want to get rid of some of the marks around the side of the engine after removing the VQ35.

Checked to original ECU for internal damage looked and tested ok

Major problems are that the rev counter will not work as the 350Z dash uses a different pick-up configuration to the Toyota engine and loom. So might scrap the original ECU and loom. the only gauges that will work are the speedo, and fuel gauge. The other gauges are electronic outputs via the engine ecu so the three centre gauges will never work and also coolant temperature.

Have expensive plans to slove this issue.....

Turbo side it requires a manifold, turbocharger, wastegate, feed and drain line, and down pipe to fit into this gap...Tight haha

The butterfly at the front is the traction control so will not be used and stay full open looking into custom throttle options.

The ECU has four female connections and the loom only has two male connctors.

The alternator wiring is part of the Supra/1JZ body loom and can not to connected to the 350Z body control unit, as the alternator on a 350Z will not charge if you disconnect the Speedometer.

I carried out a number of wiring checks to the original loom and found a excessive amount of damaged wires and poor connections.

Also due to to the age of the vehicle it runs semi sequential fuel injection system and a poor ignition system comparied to the likes of a modern BMW.

Oil cooler fitted due to water cooling of OEM oil filter remover. Deleted the original water lines of standard twin turbos.

Mishimoto slimline fans on the front of the radiator, going to be running in reverse polarity to standard 350Z.

Next in the sandwich is the intercooler and it is massive...3 inch inlet and outlet...

Front bumper test fitted and its all behind there with no major problems, just needed to shave a small amount of the bumper away so everything sits flush.

Remover the fuel pump was going to use Bosch 044 pump with swirl tank but saw some crazy BHP results with the worlds most powerful in-tank pump. Walbro 400LPH fuel pump. 350Z original pump on right Walbro 400LPH on the left. It's the large section at the bottom that is the key to how it works.

Random fact for all that I found out. The new BMW F10 M5 that produces 560BHP has two fuel pumps that eash flow 160LPH (litres per hour) at a max pressure of 7BAR ,so 320LHP from two pumps and the Walbro pumps 400LPH on it's own..Just ridiculous!!

But the M5 is direct injection haha

 

So sender unit modified for the pump and converted the fuel system to a return system.

The OEM fuel lines internal diameter is too small for the Walbro pump so all new braided lines required..

Time for a turbcharger...and its BIG..

Its a driftmotion hybrid turbo sent over from USA its had the internals modified and used all Garrett internals. It's not an expensive turbo but has been proven in the USA so it's worth a try. Will upgrade the turbo when its running or blow all the seals..

The wastegate on the right is the 44mm one supplied by driftmotion. No way was that big bugger going to fit past the steering shaft,so got myself a Turbosmart 40mm compgate thats half the size.

Due to the excessive amounts of heat that the manifold and turbo will produce needed something to try block some heat.

So had to modify the intake pipe and used gold tape to refect some heat. So expensive but also just looks cool.

Thank you everyone for the comments its all backed dates so that's the reason it's getting posted so quickl. It's been a year since I started building it and it's still being build so you all be up to date soon there is still loads more to come!!

 

Looking to be around the 500BHP mark but some of the modifications done recently could rocket that number up but will not really know until I get it mapped.

It's hard work building this due to the size of the engine bay ,it's tiny compared to other cars and really no built for straight 6 engines..haha

 

Also at the moment it's being built at the side of the road just to make it that bit harder... Still working hard to finish it before mid summer this year so everyone can see it in the flesh...
