The ilogikal1 test thread

Also, just noticed...

Is there a particular iron remover you'd recommend?

Current preference is Car Chem Revolt.

I'll be doing a comparison between a few shortly - I was hoping to do it this weekend, weather permitting, until I realised I don't have any Iron X. I may do it anyway though.

.... it's taken more than 2 years (and 6 pages) to conduct this bloody fallout remover test and I'm still not done yet! :lol:

Mate they reccomend GYEON Q2M CURE after three or so coats of CanCoat but I can't figure out what the purpose of this is. Can you explain and give your opinion as to its worth?

Cancoat will take up to 7 days (I think, from memory) to fully cure, in that time if it gets wet it can suffer from waterspot etching (ie. requires polishing to remove, which will take the coating with it), Cure is thus a sacrificial layer to protect the underlying coating from waterspotting I that first week - certainly within the first 24-48 hours.

If you're keeping the car out of the elements for that time, away from water and don't feed it after midnight then there's little need for Cure as well but if you're rolling the car out of the garage as soon as you're done it's a protective layer until the coating is fully cured.

In short; not essential but worth the effort if you want to use your car in the first week.

Tune in for the next exciting episode some time in... the future. Fast & Furious 11 will probably be out before that. So probably in 6 months time. :teeth:

I suppose that means there's an update due then!

How do I put this politely...?

F**k that! I respectfully decline your valuable suggestion. ;)

Crack on then!

That I can do though.

Six months of filth on the wheels looked like this;

Foam happened, then a shampoo wash using Wheel Woolies; the usual routine. Then the fallout removers.

Today saw Bilt Hamber Korrosol go up against Auto Finesse Iron Out.

Korrosol did this;

Meanwhile Iron Out did this;

Rinsing happened. Then they swapped wheels.

Korrosol then did this immediately;

Iron Out then immediately did this;

20171028_110408.thumb.jpg.0ae272a13f644da0468966ba8d1e7a81.jpg

Most of this was traced back to the wheel weight, but there are other areas reacting both in the picture above and that below.

20171028_110413.thumb.jpg.085a9cd77a133c0da50cecceac4dc56e.jpg

Elsewhere it picked up a few bits here and there;

They were both left to dwell for a few minutes, after which Korrosol had done this;

20171028_110545.thumb.jpg.6fdbc59354aa471d2602090789e3c5f6.jpg

In the same time, Iron Out picked up this;

20171028_110624.thumb.jpg.6034fe615f795138254d9f00df694434.jpg

That was all.

As should be expected at this stage, the performance of the remaining fallout removers are quite close. I do think it's fair to say that Bilt Hamber Korrosol out performs Auto Finesse Iron Out here, albeit not by a huge amount. I'd quite happily recommend AF Iron Out but considering Korrosol is cheaper (£13/litre compared to £20/litre for AF Iron Out), equally as available (Polished Bliss) and (marginally) better, I'm not quite sure why you wouldn't go for Korrosol instead.

More to follow soon. Less than 6 months soon!

Speaking of Car Chem Revolt, that was also in action today against OCD Finish Purple Haze.

Like the other two wheels, these were prepared with a snow foam and shampoo wash before tackling a wheel each. Now, a quick preamble to this one; my Revolt has run out. Luckily @G1en@waxandshinehad kindly sent me a box of Car Chem sample sized goodies in return for doing a write up for the Wax and Shine website, which included some Revolt. Hurrah. Now this is noteworthy because, a) credit to Wax and Shine for this occurring now and, 2) the sample size thing is relevant here. We'll get to that though.

First up, Purple Haze almost immediately did this;

Ignore the amount coming from the weights, there's also plenty of other reaction going on around it too.

20171028_112240.thumb.jpg.e16918d221bbffaf475a5257f58c440b.jpg

20171028_112251.thumb.jpg.cebf24e0f06791d58d1012eedbbfacd0.jpg

20171028_112257.thumb.jpg.e9db46f9097000b9ee8ce122b5bb795a.jpg

20171028_112322.thumb.jpg.22aca299966dc5be44510c62a4df3483.jpg

20171028_112333.thumb.jpg.0368682027f1ef1fb70aaf7f651c72be.jpg

Car Chem Revolt was applied to the remaining wheel. As mentioned, this was from a sample size jobby so was sporting a mini-trigger spray head. When I first used it, I immediately noticed that the spray pattern was somewhat more direct than the usual spray head pattern which isn't ideal.

Here's the new spray head on the left compared to the old on the right;

Collage_Fotor.thumb.jpg.5364c7d322eab068192201705ccdd4c4.jpg

With the mini-trigger in use, Revolt immediately did this;

20171028_112716.thumb.jpg.f29236dbbed6d84b08327d614db2e186.jpg

Again the majority here is coming from the weights, but there's also plenty of other fallout around too.

20171028_112721.thumb.jpg.16230ee8b4c77dbc084cd019527db96e.jpg

20171028_112742.thumb.jpg.d2fb08491c0e13c57d8a4ad7b40ed699.jpg

After a few more minutes, Purple Haze had done this;

20171028_112851.thumb.jpg.c5b63adaf06d3ad08560b761065e75d2.jpg

20171028_112905.thumb.jpg.2d63f629051aad0deed8e7f0c39563e0.jpg

After an equal amount of time, Car Chem Revolt had done this;

20171028_113052.thumb.jpg.96435aaa2420ba30034e15bb9594d514.jpg

20171028_113101.thumb.jpg.1e9d76bd79f0a3f67349dc3c2b7f7f62.jpg

20171028_113112.thumb.jpg.97712eca2d7a62040341905ab47639b1.jpg

They were both given a few more minutes (about 10 in all) but not much else happened. The wheels were the rinsed thoroughly with the pressure washer and the f/o removers then swapped wheels.

Purple Haze immediately did this;

20171028_113526.thumb.jpg.2c27fd40d50cf2468fc808210e7cc404.jpg

20171028_113530.thumb.jpg.32cdc131bd1fd47c37b37e0ebee7efba.jpg

After a few minutes, it had done this;

20171028_113838.thumb.jpg.64cf43d1571928da4027c1eaa2980a8c.jpg

20171028_113851.thumb.jpg.9e09987065aa19286cdce2b4c32d55ed.jpg

So it's picked up a few bits that Revolt didn't first time round.

Revolt then went and did this immediately;

20171028_113403.thumb.jpg.23f3379f65402b55be459fa1345321ae.jpg

20171028_113411.thumb.jpg.00901dbff5f198b80ead2a3d36217378.jpg

And after a few more minutes, it had done this;

20171028_113735.thumb.jpg.d531fdef762e64bf719b4239505e68ff.jpg

20171028_113745.thumb.jpg.464829a8c729a6f266029bbcc8980dd0.jpg

20171028_113757.thumb.jpg.1225b7da4591a730730b582db1db6a19.jpg

20171028_113816.thumb.jpg.7cadc0b75c369d46d6733373a9d2a850.jpg

So there you have it. Revolt picked up a fair bit more than Purple Haze in round two, so takes the win on this one.

It did occur to me that the spray pattern on the mini-trigger head on Revolt may account for what Purple Haze picked up that Revolt didn't originally and that there may have been areas that I missed with Revolt, or it could just be that Purple Haze is actually just very good. To eliminate the speculation, I have now decanted the Revolt into the full size bottle, complete with usual, full size trigger spray head and treated both wheels to a final hit. Here's what happended...

On the wheel that was Purple Haze'd the Revolt'd;

20171028_114251.thumb.jpg.7986672ccd5c6d996b88f4d1ed8abb13.jpg

20171028_114255.thumb.jpg.016aca7e01ce4d17ce758e35cea4b265.jpg

20171028_114259.thumb.jpg.3cd9aabcc53daf8737b5758e1db92c9e.jpg

20171028_114310.thumb.jpg.6fd2b8f886a4d57fb827bb573cbae74c.jpg

And on the previously Revolt'd then Purple Hazed wheel;

20171028_114335.thumb.jpg.c1e11968b4446dd49cab8e3058d0d473.jpg

20171028_114338.thumb.jpg.38e6de39e547566abd9583bf266b2338.jpg

20171028_114347.thumb.jpg.a02e8beaa991d453e21495ddd78e1a4f.jpg

So yeah, the spray head makes a difference. For the final, Revolt will be using the proper, full sized spray head.

Speaking of the final, we now have our finalists for next time.

First up, battling out for third place will be the surprise runner (in my opinion) in OCD Finish Purple Haze vs. the more established and somewhat boutique brand's offering Auto Finesse Iron Out.

20171028_114551_Fotor.thumb.jpg.84b1dc582a864e4a3556516d76e37d1e.jpg

Meaning that our finalists are two of the more well respected offerings on the market today (clearly with good reason) and a match up I've been looking forward to since day 1; Bilt Hamber Korrosol vs. Car Chem Revolt.

20171028_114613_Fotor.thumb.jpg.0e6b81b47a39a7f7e53e42562bf6f6a7.jpg

Let battle commence... in a few months time most likely.

You know those really annoying adverts... sorry, "trailers"? The ones that say "coming soon" every other day for years on end without actually even suggesting when "soon" might be? Well I highly dislike those sorts of completely unnecessarily long build ups to what is usually a highly anti-climatic offering. So with that in mind, prepare yourself for the long awaited, long over due finale to this here fallout remover test. A mere three years after starting!

Coming soon...

...that is all.

For now...

Now that I’ve been doing this fallout test for 3 years it’s about time I wrap this up with a conclusive decision to put the discussion to bed once and for all.

So without further ado, I give to you...

...A short interlude.

Im not even sorry.

An update is coming shortly. And by shortly I mean before June. Not sure how much more before June, but definitely before June! Probably. You’ve waited 3 years, you can make it another couple of weeks.

We have a winner!:yahoo:

But first I need lunch. And there's some F1 on the telebox. So you'll just have to wait a bit longer.

And @Ekona, that other thing you're waiting for; I'll have a definitive answer for you in the next day or two.
