313 HR engine gone bang

Sad times, my 57 plate 350 with 41k miles on the clock went bang on Saturday. Full Nissan service history. I'm talking with Nissan corporate pending an investigation.

Has anyone else had similar? Had any joy from Nissan on assistance with goodwill replacement/repair?

Any advice gratefully received.

Words of dealer 'catastrophic engine failure' 'never seen anything like it except on a heavily track modified gtr'.

What went bang? What actually happened?

I very much doubt you'll get anything out of Nissan, but no harm in asking. Maybe they'll want the unit to look at to see where it failed?

Two holes in the block, don't know where exactly. Metal that should be inside the engine on the under tray when they took it off. I haven't actually seen the car since 1am on Sunday morning.

Unlucky mate, sounds like the previous owner must have ragged the crap out of it maybe it was tracked regularly and not looked after....

Can't see you getting much out of NMGB to be honest unless you can prove it was bad engineering

Good luck anyways

I don't know where the holes are yet. But there are two...

Was assured it had never been on a track but people can say anything. Watch this space as to what Nissan say; trying to stay positive!

I think Saturday must have been a bad day for HR engines!! I'm waiting to find out the extent of the damage done to mine at the moment. I hope it's only the master cylinder.

I wish you all the best with Nissan!

Catastrophic failure at 41K can only be a major engineering fault or car being run to absolute destruction i.e. no oil, no cooling and even then it would be obvious that something was going to break ........... I know, Ive done it

Hole in block certainly sounds like rod failure but it would have been making a hell of a racket before it went, did you notice anything? As Ekona says, Ive seen driftcar engines go for 80K without any problems, theres something else here

If you want any help give me a shout because I went through a similar thing last year with my Corolla Compressor with Toyota GB. They paid for the repair (a new engine) as it was a mechanical failure in the engine and was not down to lack of maintenance or neglect.

How old was your Corolla? Did they admit to mechanical failure or did you get inspected yourself elsewhere?

My Corolla was on a 55 plate and it was last year it blew at 28k. I had to really fight my corner and it was hard but initially on inspection they tried saying it was caused by a lack of lubrication. But after showing an ex rally driver who's held in high regard by Toyota he said it was a load of crap and it was blatantly mechanical so a few phone calls from him really got it sorted.

It's all about what you can prove and hopefully you have all your servicing and receipts etc because they will try and put the blame on you.

I have everything for the car from new. All service records and receipts from Nissan dealerships.

Make sure the components that failed are thoroughly checked by specialists, even by a metallurgist, preferably neutral, if they dont play ball, tell them this is what you will be doing, they will know you mean business then.

Good luck and sorry to hear :(

Good luck, you do know this is Nissan we're talking about, a company so tight it wouldn't sort a problem 1 week out of warranty, even though it could be proved the issue started while still in warranty. Worst company I've ever dealt with.
