European Tour 2013 – The options and preliminary costs

Recommended Posts

Hmmmm no disrespect, but the only interesting part is the section between France and Spain through the mountainous areas. The rest will be very dull motorway driving unless you have something special planned at the stopping points? Trust me north of France to the South is utterly frustrating and expensive. Not even a stop off at Le Mans

Do yourself a favour too, ignore the French bit of the Pyrenees and drop onto the N260 at Jaca, MUCH better road and one of the all-time favourite stretches recommended to me by the guys on PH.

It really is awesome

Yes, this is the one currently recommended on PH but large parts of the N 260 appear to be wide straight roads or at the very best some sweeping bends. The most interesting bit appears to be between Biescas and Broto on the N 260A

However, on the French side, the road between Laruns and Argeles-Gazost appears more interesting to me.

PH also recommended picking up the road from Vielha towards Perpignan as that was a particularly good stretch.

Having worked in France for a good number of years, I have to disagree with you.

Well I fell asleep

Each to their own I suppose.

Up to you of course, but having driven those roads I know that the Spanish bit with the sweeping parts is much more fun than the very tight (and poorly maintained) bits on the French side. Depends on what you want though.

The open sweeping bits aren't nearly as dull as they look ;)

Have to say I'm with Wasso though, the long drive through France is ultimately boring as hell.

When did you drive on the French side of the Pyrenees and do you have a video of the tight poorly maintained roads? Was it last year?

I'll disregard the comments of your buddy Wasso. You know what they say about opinions...

It was last June.

Not much use given the snow, but they were night and day in terms of road quality between France and Spain. If I'd known earlier, I'd have skipped planning any decent routes in France altogether.

Seems to be a fault with the video. Agree, you wouldn't tell much about the road in those conditions.

Another option do French side one way and Spanish the other. :drive1
