Intermittent loud grinding noise with clutch down

Hi all

My MY2010 370Z has started making a nasty, loud grinding noise when the clutch is fully depressed. It is intermittent, so comes and goes between runs, and lifting the clutch stops the noise. It typically only happens at low speeds, mostly at a stand-still before shifting into first or reverse, or coming to a stop at a junction.

The noise will continue for as long as the clutch pedal is down, but bringing the pedal up then back down again clears the problem.

This isn't the usual noisy Z clutch fly wheel complaint, it's a very distinct and loud grinding sound.

Any ideas?

Hey mate I had a similar problem with my 2010 as well, however it was after a run I could hear the crunching noise but when I pressed my clutch down it stopped! So to cut a long story short took it into Nissan and I got a new clutch and gearbox under warranty. So get it into Nissan to get checked.

If the Zed is within the warranty period then yes.

If its a main dealer then they'll probably go for the cheapest option and waz in a new release bearing.

If I was doing the job, I'd be checking the clutch friction material for wear while I've got the gearbox off.

I'd probably change the whole clutch while I was at it if its been on for a year or two. Depends how worn it was.

can any one help me out here. just been to nissan now about the my realise bearing & the mananic can hear it but just been told its not noisy enough for them to do it under the warranty. they saying to me the yes its the bearing but it just sounds like any other 370 sounds. taking to sheffield one. any help on this mightier at all would be a big help as i am at a loss now what to do. looking more and more to me, until the bearing goes fully and at a guess when it does gp means a new gear box or something. so steaming mad at them now. grrrrrr

Have you been to a HPC dealer?

If not, then I would advise you go to one for another opinion. Otherwise, if you post up your location I'm sure someone on here will be able to point you in the direction of a suitable dealer or specialist independent as I'm afraid we have heard dealers diagnostics are not always sound.

HPC dealer??? my location is rotherham/sheffield. i went to nissan sheffield dealer but really got no hope there. Do you have to take it to a nissan dealer with it still under warranty or can you take it some where else?

HPC = High Performance Centre. They are Nissan garages which specialise in the performance variety of Nissans (350, 370, GT-R) rather than the run of the mill stuff (although they still do that too)

Click the "locator" tab at the far right of the box and stick in your postcode :)

no matey. got fogged off 3 times now. still got the noise from it. so waiting on it to break then going to get it towed to them and then tell them its broke and to fix it under warranty.

If you find a need to go to Merseyside you might want to see if Middlehurst can help - one of the most respected/knowledgible HPC's there are:
