Wobble bolts..?

HI,

I have seen the following set of alloys for sale with stud pattern 5 x 112.

The seller told me that they were previously fitted to a 350z using wobble bolts.

How do these work when the bolts are fixed to the hub?

Are they safe?

Also opinions on these wheels fitted to silver zed :)They look black but apparently were refurbed to Lexus Purple! He wants £290 for the set.

Thanks

Here ya go

I would not use them myself (nor would Buster) you can get spaces that will do the conversion - if you want to use these wheels get them! (the spacers that is)

Edit: Also how can you use bolts - we have a stud system??!! maybe he used wobble nuts

I asked him that too lol I have seen the adapters which are basically wheel spacers with a different size thread (safer option)

However, they are about £100 or so for 2 meaning the wheels will end up cost a fair bit.

I have seen on YouTube where the alloy bolt holes can be drilled out bigger to fit properly. Anyone know if and where this could be done?

Buy the correct wheels for the car and don't be silly. This will only end up going one way..

This.

In a slightly more technical and helpful answer, think about what the wheel bolts/studs actually do and then think about it to the logical conclusion. That's not meant to sound patronising I promise, but it's a good way to work out whether any engineering thing is a good idea for yourself. The wheel bolts hold the wheels onto the car, and in real terms they hold the entire weight of the car equally over each corner and over each bolt. That's static, but if the car is accelerating/braking/turning, you will drastically alter the load per corner, and introduce massive stresses onto these items. If one should decide to give way for whatever reason, then that load is now distributed over even fewer points, causing more stress which in trun causes the liklihood of failure to increase dramatically. If this causes all of them to fail, and the wheel to fall off, this would be a Very Bad Thing Indeed.

If a bolt is fixed, with no movement at all and everything is located centrally, then there can be no lateral movement causing extra stress. As soon as you try to use adaptors that allow any play at all, you can introduce stress ijn places where you wouldn't want it. Now, in practice you probably won't have any issue with using something like this, however is the risk you are taking worth it to save a few quid when you could risk your car or your life? That's up to the individual to decide I guess. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. There's thousands of wheels out there that will fit the Zed perfectly, and I'd be picking from something in that range or I'd go the extra mile and get a set of wheels made specifically if I couldn't find the style I wanted.

Fugly, but then I'm not a fan of non-OEM wheels full stop so probably not the best judge :teeth:

I think the spokes are just too big for the Zed. What type and size tyres are on them, no guarantee that they'll be right for the Zed either y'see.

Something I have never heard of but gut instinct says no.

Anyways, thought I would have a rumage to find out more - and it seems the drift guys have used them and no failures reported (correct spigot rings are a must though).

That said, still not something I would use

Fronts are 235/35/19 (8J) and rears are 265/30/19 (9J)

Tyres are kuhmo k104 only covering 100 miles.

Paid £400 including tyres in mint condition :)

i maybe wrong here but the rears should be 275/35/19  .....keep an eye on the TC light, hopefully your be ok but if not replace rear to this size. :D

i run 255/35/19 8.5j front and 275/35/19 10.5j rear as i ve found this to be best for me. ;)

did run a 235/35/19 front but it just looked odd compaired to the rears. :)

Would that mean just changing tyres?

What would be the best size spacers for fronts and rears as the offset is 35Et.

I have a pair of 30mm spacers, is that too much though?

yes mate just the rear tyres.265/30/19 to 275/35/19......and if you opt to replace the fronts then must say go for 245/35/19......if these are fitted the speedo will remain accurate and no T/C issues. :teeth:

i d be looking at 20mm spacers all round B) you may get away with 25mm rear but be ready for arch rolling if you go for more poke. ;)

Cheers mate, will have to look for some 20mm spacers :)

Do you reckon it will need lowering?

If so, I have 30mm springs at home but might be too much :S

personnally i d lower it......... B) mines a littler lower than 30mm  for me stance is where its at. ;)
