Dealing with a Nissan dealer..Arggghhhh

Arggh, my first proper experience of a Nissan dealer dealing with a problem has not been great. Excuse the vent.

 

About 2 weeks after i bought my little roadster i noticed the seal above the drivers door was a little uneven and it was letting water in. Not great given the approaching rain and winter.

 

Contacting the local dealer they recognised the problem and said they need to replace the seal. The replacement would cost £95 but wouldnt be covered by the warranty :(

 

Contacted the dealer where i bought the car and they agreed to pay for the work given that cost and that they are so far away from my current location- YAY (to be honest the selling dealership have been excellant have to admit)

 

So local dealer ordered the part stating it would take 2-3 weeks. 3 weeks later i phone up, they apologise saying they ordered the wrong part. They will chase it up.

 

1 week later i phone again as i had not heard anything and the conversation goes like this....

 

Me “Hello im chasing up about the work to be done on my car....has the part arrived”

 

Them “ let me check on the system .. oh yes its here”

 

Me “ Great...so why haven’t you contacted me to book the car in “

 

Them “ I can only book your car in when he part has arrived”

 

Me “But you just told me you had the part has arrived”

 

Them “ oh.. yes.. sorry its Monday...when would you like the car booked in “

 

Me “ asap as its going to rain this week, so you have the part?”

 

Them “ let me go check its actually here”..

 

2 mins later

 

Them “ Ummm well the story is they have delivered the part last week but it’s the wrong one”

 

Me “ But I phone last week and i was told Nissan had already delivered the wrong part twice before, are you telling me that’s the 3rd time? Its taken a month to get this part in now... :bang: ”

 

Them “ Let me check why its not come in...”

 

Them “ We didn’t want to order the part as its a lot more expensive”

 

Me “ Why did no one tell me? I still need the part .... You quoted me £95, how much is the new part”

 

Them “ £551.53”

 

Me “.........pardon!!!...” :scare:

 

I wont describe the rest of the conversation it might hurt little childrens ears.

 

Back in the hands of the selling dealership now to come up with a solution meanwhile we have lots of rain due....great.

 

Won't name the dealerships for obvious reasons but man im frustrated atm.

Sounds just like the conversations I had with my Nissan dealer! Eventually I had my car booked in, was stood waiting for my courtesy car and was told that I'd have to pay £10 for insurance.

 

At this point I may have started shouting in front of a showroom full of people until they agreed that they would waive the charge. I haven't been back since - I'd rather pay an independent mechanic whom I can trust than deal with the insipid Nissan service desk and have arguments over what the warranty does and doesn't cover. I wouldn't go back to that dealer for an air freshener - even if I can have a mooch round Brent Cross whilst I'm waiting!

I'm more than happy to name and shame:

 

Sturgess (Leicester)

 

I looked around the car prior to purchase and the sales lady said "oh yes the wheels are NEW". I said how come they are all "NEW". She said "As the guy who owns it works in the service area - he managed to get new wheels through the Warranty".

 

This was a bonus - brand new wheels.

 

Six months down the line of owning my car I noticed the alloys were - shall we say peeling!

 

I phoned Sturgess to find out if I can obtain replacements under my extended warranty.

 

Sturgess "Yes we can replace the wheels, although what sort of issues are occuring"

Me "The wheels are peeling"!

Sturgess "Hmmmm let me check to see what we can do - please hold"

Sturgess "Okay we can't replace the wheels"

Me "Why not it's within the warranty"

Sturgess "I'm afraid not - it turns out the wheels weren't knew they were otherwise reconditioned"

Me "So when you sold me the car you told me the wheels were "NEW" and they clearly are reconditioned"

Sturgess "Yeah sorry about that - I can put you in touch with the company who reconditioned the wheels"

Me "No you ring them - their work undertaken is shabby"

Sturgess "Sorry no we can't ring them - would you like the number"

Me "May as well - thanks for being unhelpful"

Sturgess "No problem" :scare:

Let's just say I was not pleased. The wheels since purchase now 1 year old look terrible - which I am now in the process of having reconditioned myself.

 

Furthermore Sturgess sent me a letter recently asking if I'd like to have my MOT done at their dealership - no blinking way are they getting near my car!

 

I recall upon leaving their garage that I'd leave the car standard - she replied that would be nice as the previous owner would hate for his EX car to be modified. I'm so tempted to go down there and do a nice little burnout in their carpark displaying all the modifications! :lol::lol::lol:

That would **** me off... just mention trading standards to them :lol:

I couldn't be bothered to drive all the way to Leicester for a survey on the wheels for them to then work on them. The inconvenience would be too great.

 

I will get them done nearer to me - which will be better.

Good old Sturgess Leicester, When i first started looking at a 350Z back in 2008 i popped in there to see if they had any to basically be told i wouldnt be able to afford a 350Z, I was in my mk1 mr2 at the time.

 

I asked about the 350Z and was told Insurance is high, fuel/tax is high, alloys are £1000 each, engine replacement is £5000+ etc...

 

Popped back a few months later with my 18month old BMW Z4 to have a look around again and see if the same sales guy was there.

I can beat it - Ive been considering a new car recently and wanted to test drive a Focus RS. First garage flatly refused a test drive "unless you buy it first" and the second one took 5 minutes of arguing before they'd let me drive it. Apparently its quite normal to spend 30 grand on a car youve never driven. :bangin:

 

This is considering I was booking in advance, turned up in a very tidy Z33, and had test driven a £58K Lexus and a £71K Porsche the day before. Way to make a sale guys. :blink:

I can only presume that he wants to replace the entire rubber trim going up the drivers door which seems a little excessive. I remember him saying when i first took the car in that if that is the case then the entire trim along the front windscreen to the passenger side also has to be replaced. Knowing my luck that could create far more problems than it solves.

 

Tempted to take it back to the original dealers and say fix it or its coming back your way. From initial investigations it seems they are happy to do this and wanted to, its just its soooo far away. Quick solution with the local dealer seems to have resulted in me shooting myself in the foot.

 

Still can't work out where the water is actually getting in beneath the rubber, may have to experiment tonight. Will post pics if i get any results.

Go to a nissan high performance dealership, they handle things better with the performance Nissans, hmm dont think there are many about though!

Colin, you are an absolute star, that post exactly describes the problem.

 

Must admit am a little scared of pulling the car apart to fix it (never had to touch previous cars except to put oil in, never even had to change a tyre in nearly 17 years of driving - although saying that has most probably blown all my luck) but I will test it out and see what i can do.

 

Thanks again i will update you on progress. A few bits of tape sounds alot cheaper than £530.

 

Want it all sorted for Wales, because as we all kow it never rains in wales

I had success stopping a leaking MR2 T-bar using some rubber lubricant, although that was restoring slightly older rubber rather than out of place rubber - it does "puff up" the rubber though so may help. Besides, it only costs a fiver so may be worth giving it a go before removing/packing. This stuff's pretty good.

Sorry to hear your problem has continues Will, sometimes it's just not worth trying to be polite with people who, quite frankly couldn't run a p*ss up in a brewery, least of all run a business. :thumbdown: Deffo think you you should name and shame said morons :D rather puts my 17 minutes, yes you read it correctly, SEVENTEEN minutes on hold trying to get through to Tesco Direct today to rearrange a delivery that THEY couldn't make :rant:

 

I really hope you get this sorted for Wales :boat::D

Update for you.

 

Spoke to the original garage that sold the car, who as I say have been excellent so far. They said the leak was totally unacceptable and offered to pay for another local specialist garage to fix it rather than travel to them which was nice.

 

Alternatively I could take it back to them and they would sort it ( wish I had taken them up on this originally rather than try to sort it locally). I agreed to this as they know the car.

 

Conversation went:

 

Them " don't worry we will keep the car for a few days to test and make sure it's fixed, that problem is unacceptable"

 

Me " thank you that is just what I wanted to hear"

 

Them " I assume you will be wanting a courtesy car."

 

Me " oooo yes that would be nice thank you."

 

Them " no problem already sorted, how would you like a 370"

 

Me " ......pardon......you serious"

 

Them " totally"

 

I get a 370 for a couple of days, I get my lovely zed back all fixed, and lastly it will be all valeted ready for wales.

 

I can finish the day with a big smile.

 

Huge thumbs up to the Nissan dealer in tunbridge wells.

I suggest you take your car in on 16 September and put some real miles on that 370 over the weekend :teeth:

Sorry to hear you had a similar if not worse experience wasso, really takes the shine off. The 370 should put it straight back on again though.
