waterproofing my convertible roof

kevlo

Recommended Posts

Hi guys and girls, can anyone help with my query.

Before my Z convertible i had an audi tt convertible. The roof was in bad shape and needed waterproofing so i bought some fabsil and painted it on to the roof. It was brilliant made the roof look like new and water beaded off it like when you wax your car thus keeping it clean and stopping mould and mildew setting in.

question is can i use this product on my 350z convertible roof? its only an 06 car and the roof seems in good nick but if i could get water to bead off it again and keep it looking like new that would be great as i already have the product so its at no cost.

any thoughts most appreciated?

I use fabsil on my roof and my wifes beetle, although the material on the beetle roof is much more absorbant than my zed.

Never had any issues apart from it does tend to run down the windows if there is constant rain, just get a stain which is easily cleaned off.

Fabsil all the way mate.

Yes mate, you put the cleaner on and wipe it off, the sealant lasts ages and you will see by the beading that its doing its job. This review is pretty spot on.

Keep your top in Tip Top condition

Autoglym Cabriolet Fabric Hood Cleaning Kit

For anyone who has a fabric hood on their car this is a must have product.

The sun, rain, and general dirt all take their toll on the surface of the hood on your car. There is a danger that it can end up looking very grey and patchy and at worst can start to leak.

This kit comes in two parts. The first bottle is a cleaner and will get that surface dirt off the hood. As those with cabriolets will know you cannot just use the same cleaner as you use on the rest of the car - you will never be able to get the suds off fully and it can destroy the waterproof capabilities of the hood.

Once you have cleaner the hood you need to re-waterproof it with the second bottle so make sure that you have enough time and the weather will stay dry enough to complete both parts of this process otherwise you will have a clean but possibly leaky roof.

This product is really easy to use as it come is easy spray bottles and does breathe new life into slightly tired roofs if you need it to and will keep new roofs in wonderful condition.

Think they are all a variation on a theme - silicon based water proofers. I've had the autoglym hood kit for mine and it was excellent - use it for the spare wheel cover on the van now (its white) so needs all the help it can get!)

From what I remember the TT hood is proper old school material not vinyl which the Jap stuff is. TT Hood will absorb more water than the Zed's due to the nature of the product
