Esprit Turbo! Trev, were you a yuppie?

(Did they even have yuppies in Wales?) :)

 No I certainly wasn't a Yuppie. I used to work for Lotus so was a bit of an enthusiast.

Nice one Trev  and obviously picking up the chicks in your Lotus then by the looks of things!;)

The zeds only my third car.

Firstly started off with my corsa sxi.

17" team dynamics monza, remus exhaust and K&N 57ki. it was my pride and joy.

DSCF0045.jpg

Then swapped it for something a tad more practicle.

002.jpg

The 22"s made it a tad impracticle but loved the looks it used to get.

Then swapped it for the Zed

I've always been a car and bike fan, but wont bore you with ~20 cars owned from my early years.

So a couple of the most recent:-

still own and race the Caterham (Graduates race championship - Mega class).

The VX220 was my car before the Zed, this was my slippery slope in to racing. Started off with track days, some serious modding followed to get full potential, then sprinting (great fun for a minute or two) I then raced a BMW saloon at a few events prior to Caterham purchase.

Last bike owned was the Fireblade.

wow thats a colleciton and a half! B)

I know what you mean mate I never paid more than a few hundred for my old bangers and still dont today - if its an old Beetle or Classic - but will never ever ever buy brand new again - the MR2 and Rex were fab but lost too much on them! But then you always think you will keep them forever and not be too fussed but it never happens does it!

Yep I agree, I only ever bought one car new and that was the VX220. Paid full price before they were heavily discounted and then a sizeable amount modding.

I used to make a little money on the old ones, trawling through Exchange & Mart for a bargain, having some fun and then moving on - happy days.

Thought I'd have a Mk1 Escort for the misses last year -and then I saw how much they go for !!! (I did have a Le mans green RS1600 for a couple of weeks when they were new - on loan (long story) this got me my first endorsement - not long after seeing 'Vanishing Point' :)

My turn:

Focus 1.8 TDdi:

First car I bought myself, still miss it on occasion.

MR2 Roadster w/Hass turbocharger kit:

mr22.jpg

First car I ever modded. It went through many different changes when I had it, but this is where it ended up and certainly the most tasteful. I'm still in touch with the two owners after me, which is a bit odd as I sold it to a dealer and never had any contact with them at all! It's still being well cared for, and it's kinda nice to know it's in a good home.

VXR220 w/TMS stage 2 tune:

First car bought with a bit of knowledge about cars! Now resides with a good friend of mine, so still get to drive it every now and then. Stupidly quick, both on road and on track. I don't miss it as much as I should do really, but that's probably a good thing as it means I sold it when the time was right for me.

Ok here goes:

(nicked a few phot's from AT for effect)

1) Ford Escort LX - This was the first car I bought after I finished uni and got my first job. It cost me £500 that I had to borrow from a friend. Had it 4 weeks before it got stolen. Went shopping in it to asda, came home, went to a party, cmae back and it was gone!!! Insurance paid out £400 minus the £350 excess meaning I got a cheque for £50 and I still owed my mate £500!!! :scare: Even worse though was that I'd bought a suprise engagement ring (for my now wife) and had hidden it in my briefcase in the boot of my car before it got nicked!!! I spent a long time paying that lot off  My Mrs now admits to being happy about the ring getting nicked as she got a much bigger one a few years later :lol:

escort.jpg

2) Peugeot 309 - As I was **** poor my father in law bought me a car to get to work. Unfortunately he bought me this heap of @*!# for £200. The exhaust had a whole in it till it fell off. Eventually went to car heaven after I neglected to ever check the water or oil levels and the engine seized :bangin: I hated this car more than any other!!!

pug.jpg

3) VW Golf - Needed another quick run around so bought this for £250. This car ran like a dream for ten years for the previous owner; 3 weeks after I bought it, the head gasket went costing £350. A month later it went again. Bye bye Golf .

C5V4ACA4XZ4NPCA5AWJV2CAU8FXFOCA82OI.jpg

4) Renault Megane Coupe 2.0l - Eventually I stopped bumming around and got a good job that paid well and saved hard. Took me ages to save £6k to buy my first car for cash. Bought a yellow Megane Coupe and loved it!!! it was a league above everything else I had owned. It had a CD player, AC, electric windows, leather seats and even NO CHOKE!!!! Had it for nearly two years and saved enough to try and join the big boys! Lost £4k on it though in the process

5) Kuro Nissan 350z - I'd waited ages to finally get a decent sporty car. I'd chosen the zed over a load of other cars including a 330, TT,S2K, boxster etc etc. After writing off Westway Nissan's demo on a test drive I was hooked! I looked for months for my perfect zed. One saturday morning my Mrs was preparing to paint the spare room, I saw an ad with no pics as it was that new they hadn't even had time to upload them. It was exactly was I was after; Kuro, Rays, alezan, Sat nav, GT ~£21k, after 3 mins on the phone I was on my way to London. 4 hours later I was back in it :#1: Later sold it to Paul T who has turned it into the green machine!!!!

P1010026.jpg

6) UY Nissan 350z - I wanted to add the Nismo kit and rims to the Kuro but at over £5k all in, I thought it was a waste of money so I sold the kuro and used the money to get the UY with the kit alreay fitted. Loved this car so much and still miss it to this day. I bought it the day I got back from a holiday in Portugal. Landed at 9am in Brum, made my Mrs drive 4 hrs to Newcastle to pick it up and 4 hrs back :lol: Never thought I would sell it and always knew that nothing within £20k of the price I'd paid for it would tempt me away, the only other car that really evoked uncontrollable desire and palpataions was the Gallardo. I went self employed, set up a few companies and built my business plans around buying one before I was 28.

RIMS019.jpg

7) Lamborghini Gallardo - Finally got one just after I was 28. The single best purchase I have ever made. The whole ownership experience was out of this world. The attention it draws is unbelieveable. The performance is on another level, the noise was to die for. Not a lot of women know a lot about cars, but trust me, every woman knows what a Lamborghini is B):teeth::lol: I mourned for that car longer than I have ex girlfriends  I loved that car but I hate losing money even more. I'm still in touch in with the owner and he offered it me back a few months ago for £28k less than I sold it him, which is a hit I was glad to not be the one taking! I will have another one, just have to convice my Mrs to get back to work first

GShoot.jpg

L1005880a.jpg

8) BMW M3 - This was the best compromise I could find for the Mrs once we found out she was preggers. It was rear seats, its fast enough to keep me interested and it has rear seats for the sprog. Best of all it only cost £9k so whilst the economy falls to pieces I'm saving (my mrs doesn't know this bit  ) for something special in the near future ;)

Great little stories there folks :#1:

Trust Sarnie to up the game with Italian exotica - while the rest of us plug around in MR2's , fords and Clios!

Any more for any more?

Have you noticed the common themes here? Some cars you will regret selling or crashing while others you hate with such passion! :blackeye:

Oh and a lot of racers on this site too :D

Really need to go routing up some photos...

SAAB 99 made by Mellberg (restoration project that never really got there...) :D

BMW 320 (drove the sh1t outta that one)

GOLF MK4 (slowest car ever (1.4)...but could take a fair bit of beating!)

Altezza RS200 SXE-10 (first import (car)...nice bit of poke and like the chassi)

Fairlady 350Z (3rd imported car (2nd was a Nissan Figaro but for the gf)

Best car yet :D After a few mods even better performance, cant wait to take her out on track.

To be honest some of my time and monies go into the motorcycles, at some stage Ill have to stop and decide which track to go down since its costing a bit to much with the bike racing at the moment. :bounce:

Why do bikers have more than 1 bike - is it a collecting thing - like fine bone china or fridge magnets!

Think it's as insurance isn't an issue. Bikes vary so greatly so it's nice to have a couple to choose from. I would too if I could!

Sarnie – I can’t believe you wrote off a demo car, that must have been errr, awkward

My creative writing is pretty poor so bear with me… Or read another thread!

I passed my test in January 1998.

After 8 days on the road I wrote off my poor old mother’s immaculate '89 1.1 Ghia Fiesta. I still feel bad about this eleven years on. The car had been in the family since new and had 17k on the clock. It was concourse.

As I struggled with 1100cc I decided upon an 1600 'E' plate Orion for my next victim. I ended up being the victim this time…. It drove like a dog, the rear arches practically fell out, the starter motor went, the alternator failed, the distributor failed… I could go on and on. I hated that car. It always let me down at the worst possible moment.

The onion finally died, and cash strapped at 18, I inherited a mint Y reg mk2 Cavalier from my great uncle. It was peach with 32k on the clock and it served me really well, the perfect college run about.

At twenty, with some NCB in bank, I bought a 1.6 205 GTI. It was graphite grey with the red interior and it was my first proper car. I loved my 205, it was so quick through the B roads and a pleasure to drive, one of the few cars you would just drive for the hell of it. The steering was amazing and the chassis, engine and brakes were so well matched. I spent a few (borrowed) pennies on that car though… I went a bit 'credit card crazy' buying wheels, suspension, brakes, stereo, the lot…. Then, one dry sunny evening I over-cooked it into a 4th gear flowing left and learnt a lesson very quickly in lift-off-oversteer. I hit a tree at around 70mph and rolled several times, it was a humbling experience… My parents were in tears when they saw the car at the salvage yard. I still question how I walked away from that acciennt but it taught me a lot. The car was insured 3rd party and I lost the lot with a nice loan to be repaid on top :byebye:

After the 205 I bought a little Citroen AX GT which was similar to the 205 - and also great fun. With it's tiny little tires you could have a great time sliding about at a moderate (and safe) speeds. I really learnt to balance a car in that little go kart and I have fond memories.

Following the AX (with my debts cleared) I bought a brand new 106 GTI in 2001. I spent a bomb on the 106: ICE, body work, wheels suspension etc and I started to push towards the show scene...

I loved my 106, it was a great all-round package but my life took a new direction in 2002 when the bank I work for offered me a two year role in Sydney. I sold the car and ended up staying in Oz for 4 years. I lusted after a V8 Monaro for those 4 years but common sense prevailed and I went without. On the plus side I saw England win a world cup and met my fiancée (read fiancée as – return visa to Oz) so life wasn’t all that bad :D

I returned to these shores in 2007 and bought a little Clio 182 for a year to get used to driving again. I liked the Clio but I lusted for something a little more grown up and prestigious. After flirting with the idea of a 330ci, Porsche cockster, RX8 and Z4 I settled on the Z . I will probably keep the Zed for a while now, I still fancy something daft like a late Esprit Turbo, 996 GT3 or a Noble but it has to be house next and maybe kids in a couple of years.

I hope that wasn’t too boring

Stew - I know someone who has approximately 11 bikes in his garage - Classic bikes

Matt - thanks for that insite into your car life :) Think you should take up a job as a professional car crasher though ;)

Its good to read all these little gems - surprising how much of our lives are spent or revolve about cars? Ok we are more biased Petrol heads than most but even so ...

Any more stories or pictures? :D

Loving this thread! OK so I've not racked quite as many road years as some on here (ahem) but 6 years on and here I am

1st 1994 1.2 Corsa, of course (it the car for 17yr olds at the time!). Nice Smith wheels, colour coded bumpers, full black SRI interior and a nice ICE install - more than enough for a car worth no more than £1000 i say. No pics, and i suspect it'll have been scrapped by now...

Next up, my beloved Golf which I kept for 4 years before finally letting go just 4 weeks ago! GTTDI remapped by MSD in Blackpool, Carbonio CAI, 19's, lowered 40mm and rock hard (shook yer fillings out to be fair). Oh and not to mention more ICE...
