Oil in spark chamber

BurnedSparkPlug

Recommended Posts

Hello there, i've replaced spark plugs and found out that 4 out of 6 had oil on em. My valve cover gasket is leaking as well, could it be it? My friend said it might be valve stem seals going bad. I'm planing to replace all gaskets in next month diy.

The engine has 100k miles, stock no mods.

Any ideas what else could it be? How hard is it to replace stem seals and can i do it diy?

Thanks for any tips or answears.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Most likely the valve cover gasket, yes. We do a DIY repair kit for it available here: https://www.torqen.uk/nissan/350z/engine/gaskets/1657-350z-vq35-diy-rocker-cover-repair-kit-trq350zderock.html (in stock).

Alternatively, you could replace the actual covers themselves and change the gaskets too, available here: https://www.torqen.uk/nissan/350z/engine/oil-pans-spacers/12633-350z-nissan-oem-valve-cover-set-with-gaskets-13264-am600-10.html

I doubt it would be the stem seals, the actual valve covers and spark plug tubes are a known issue on these so it is most likely those causing your issues.

As Coz has said it will definitely be the valve cover oil seals which have failed which is a very common fault.

There are two types of covers.

350Z VQ35 DE and also the HR

Please find below links to both types.

Both are in stock and good to go same/next day

Just drop me a message if I can help further.

I got my replacement from Zmanalex, DIY is possible if you are confident (Took me 5 hours in total). Make sure you download and print out the torque and tightening sequence to reassemble everything back together. Bolts on the plenum have different length hence labeling them up as you remove will help when you assemble it back.
