Vibration when braking

Any ideas please.

when I brake from 70 and over there is a bit of a shimmy through the steering, like a wheel off balance.

I’ve changed the front tyres (Mitchelins)

had them balanced several times.

Tracking and tow in all checked and adjusted.

i’ve had the disks and pads changed

it’s just had its MOT, pass no problem.

i’m a bit stumped

When fitting new discs/pads it is essential that the hub is cleaned meticulously or DTV will soon kick in. I had this problem a couple of years ago and had to have them skimmed in situ on the car to cure the problem.

Thanks for the link, it’s very interesting.

The problem could be at the back end then even though the imbalance shakes the steering wheel.

The rear disks were not changed when I did the fronts. I got the fronts done by a local garage so I have to assume they did them properly

If the cause is at the back, there could be another element here. A while back I used  ‘auto seal’ in the tyres (it’s not a gloop,it goes into a powder) and had all kinds of problems with the shakes afterwards. The manufacturers denied it caused the problems but eventually I bought new fronts, rebalanced  and it was better, but still not right on braking from speed. The stuff is still in the rears. I think I will get it cleaned out and re balanced and have the rear disks checked.

What do you think?

I’m giving Auto Seal a wide birth in future.

Sadly, we hear all too often that garages unfamiliar with Zeds do not always get things right.  And wheel balance issues are high on the failure list.

You really need to go to a 350 specialist, or from you have said a wheel balance specialist.

You have not given your location but a disc specialist who is highly recommended (based in East Anglia) is here: http://discskimmers.com/

By posting up your location will help us to point you in the right direction of 350 specialists nearby, if East Anglia is too far away.

Thanks. I’m on the Kent Surrey border just inside the M25 at about 7 o’clock..

In which case I suggest you contact Marcus at http://discskimmers.com/

He does (or did) travel to jobs and as I (and many others have found) sorted wheel imbalance issues - well worth the journey to him if necessary IMHO.
