Why are we all so dumb

Here the bikers out already heading for Hastings, oh dear! They can't resist. I will be out in the garden digging the veg patch out ready for carrots and leaks. Now told by councils not to build up to much garden waste as brown bin garden waste collection is suspended. Bin men are self isolating.

Last time I was out ‘socially’ in my car for a drive, two weeks ago, we stopped off in Moffat, all the, normally sit in places were open for takeaway only.  Place was plagued by bikers, mostly middle aged or older, milling around each other in larger groups, sharing flasks etc.  All well behaved but at the same time, behaving like mongtards on the social distancing front.

All the takeaway cafes, as far as I could see, had hand sanitizers at entrances, with very few of the customers using them.

Struck me as sheer arrogance and I couldn’t wait to get out of there.  I can’t help but feel that the availability of refreshments contributed to the ‘gaggles’ and groups wandering about the countryside

Walked to the top of my road to the little super market to get milk etc this morning and literally hundreds of cyclists out enmasse on their way to start do circuits of Richmond Park. Then you read this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52172035 and to be honest I cannot blame the government because despite everything, all the extra deaths, the appeals from NHS including our very own gangzoom that they are contributing to the problem, there are still a minority that just dont give a @*!# because they have invented their own rules in their own heads that makes it all alright.

Can really see us heading the way of Spain, strict lockdown, laws put in place to heavily fine and arrest people. And it will be the above that will be the first to moan.

If they don't crackdown now it will get worse with Easter Weekend coming. Masses of bikers on route down my way via the A21 to the coast. Lots of public normally watch them along the route. Also quite a few takeaway's set up from closed cafe's for them to congregate.

The roads in our area seemed pretty busy yesterday, no idea where everyone was going . .  and quite frankly as long as they don't stop in our little town I don't care. We saw 6 people on our dog walk yesterday, which is 4 or 5 more than we usually see.

I am starting to fear the day this comes to an end, everyone will be out on mass hugging and touching each other in celebration  . . . .  will it start all over again because some berk thought he just had "the sniffles"?

It will be interesting to see how governments handle the messaging as recovery gets closer, and how people react to it.

Stay safe everyone!

So in effect companies that didn't pay the higher premiums to cover pandemics aren't being paid out. Tough one, as to the letter of the contract, if you didn't pay for the cover, you don't have it. But on the other, this is devastating so understand why people are desperate.

It's an interesting use case, in the sense that flooding pushed the UK government to provide FloodRe. Now with a pandemic, which is a once in a lifetime event at worst, more like once in a century event, how does the market best plug the gap?

FCA has intervened here for small and medium sized businesses, I guess because its the most appropriate action.

Wonder if there is a trickle down effect or if future premiums reflect this.

Insurers are businesses like any other, if the industry ends up paying out huge sums, I don't think they can toss away the risk and assume this is a one off and it will be reflected in increased premiums moving forwards.

True, just thinking though about IPT and the change in claiming for road traffic accidents. 2 different but intertwined changes to vehicle insurance.

There was some dialogue between government and insurance firms. Must be a similar case upcoming here right?

What happens in a casino, if they accept a bet which has the potential to wipe them out, and they lose? Do they get a state bailout? Does the gambler get stiffed? Does it go under because it accepted risks which it could not service?

According to the movies the gambler is grabbed, bagged, put in a dark room sat on a chair and accused of cheating and told to give all the chips back ;)

But in all seriousness, it seems the majority of the small businesses had the option to have better cover which included losses through a global pandemic, many didn't take it. Does the FCA then force insurance companies to pay out? From what I read the argument isn't that they aren't paying out - its that they are not paying out to businesses because contractually they didnt actually have the cover, or that those that did, they are not paying out quick enough?

In a sane and honest world, there would be no payout on any cover that explicitly calls out Pandemic as being out of scope.

If it doesn’t explicitly exclude it, then write the ****ing cheques.

Obviously we don’t live in a sane and honest world, so the second group of people above will be desperately being shovelled into group one; on the basis that if Insurers make life hard for many people they will either give in immediately or get bored by a lot drawn out process, potentially with expensive legal bills. This might cut the bill by many millions, so is totally worth it. Despite being dishonest.

Big outfits won’t be scared off by this tactic, if they have the resources to fight, but loads of little businesses will simply walk away.

It's not even a legal debate though, the Ts and Cs of insurance are pretty clear - if pandemic is called out then its payout time. I guess its where its less clear and specifically called out but businesses are claiming based on it being included but under something else. And if its not in the contract, then you don't pay out. (the BBC article also says the FCA are not forcing insurers to pay out to those not covered).

In a Spain style lockdown (was/is still a possibility), those items are very much worth stocking up on.

What was so different about Spains lockdown that meant people couldn't get food?

Most supermarkets aren't open and the ones that are have massive queues, you are expected to walk to go food shopping unless you're a key worker or whatever their version is. Hearing from someone that lives there, you can't even been seen going for a walk with an adult from the same household. These folks did and neighbours reported to the authorities. You can buy what you need, however are limited to what you can carry by yourself. It very much pays to have bulk items already at home rather than carrying.

Where are you getting this information about supermarkets? All are open, if they arent its not because of the lockdown but for other reasons (most likely because of panic shopping).

Spains lockdown is slightly different to the UKs in that exercise isn't allowed in the same way ours is, which is why you cannot be seen going for a walk. Otherwise its exactly the same and has no impact on the sale or supply of food - I guess it depends on who you speak with, my son is doing Spanish lessons online and his teacher who is in Madrid says getting food has been fine.

The only reason shops are short of stuff, is because people are stockpiling. If they shopped as normal, as they are allowed to do during a lockdown, then stuff doesn't run out, why would it if people bought what they normally bought. Shopping habits in the UK are pretty much back to pre-socialmediapanic levels. Food shortages have nothing to do with lockdowns, only with people panicking and stockpiling, this is a really important fact that is getting lost in the myth pandemic flying about the internet.

I wont repeat the above paragraph on this thread again, promise ;)
