Victim of the storm...

Hey all

Annoyingly yesterday i cam back to the car to find some inconsiderate ****er had opened their door into mine. May have been the wind etc but hey ho, i now have an unsightly looking ding smack bang in the middle of the passenger door panel.

Does anyone in South Wales have any recommendations? I've sent away for quotes from chips away and dent-tox based locally. While we are here, does anyone have any experience of getting a dent removed? Fairly straightforward panel to work on / get to? etc

I'm expecting a repair bill of approx. £100. Pics below including one i marked where the scratch is

Cheers

Mike

indeed, so annoyed as now its the only thing i see when i look at the passenger side and even if i buffed the scratch out, the dent still spoils the panel . I've contacted a bunch of these dent specialists to get some estimates etc, just hoping now for a cost effective solution

I would suggest taking your time to find someone to do the work, get recommendations, and be prepared to pay a little more for a first class job.

Be careful with Chips Away and other similar franchises. Some of their technicians are superb but others are awful and may depend on how much experience they have. Someone who buys a franchise may have no previous experience, receive a few days training and then get let loose on your car.

I think that I would rather someone worked on my car in a warm, dry and clean environment rather than on my driveway in the wind and rain. This will cost more but if you are happier with the result....

Thanks for the advice

Yeah, i'm not going to rush into it, i would obviously like to get the repair complete quickly but for a poor job its not worth it. One response so far, just for dent removal would be £70 but they can't guarantee the scratch would buff out and they wouldn't do the paint work. I've not tried to 'clean' up the scratch yet.

I've also not taken a door card off before, is the panel easily accessible when removed?

A paintless dent removal guy will get to the door ding in seconds.

Literally a couple of minutes and it'll be much better.

If the paint hasn't been damaged past the clear coat you can then polish out any superficial marks.

Up here in Manchester there are loads of small dent guys operating from home.

I drove to one on a Saturday morning he popped out.

Popped in his widget between glass and door.

Ding popped out.

I parted with a couple of twenties and he popped back in to finish his coffee.

Made some calls, had some estimates and found a local company which was recommended by a few of the larger bodyshops in the area so car booked in for this morning and dropped off.

Guy said it was quite a sharp dent but optimistic it can be repaired. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks for the responses.

got the car back yesterday, dent is gone, paint work is intact (it was all transfer from the other vehicle) he did need to use some sort of electric treatment to tighten up the metal due to how sharp the dent was.

Dent has gone and the door is looking smooooth.

it was actually £100 due to to the additional electrical work to tighten up the metal but £100 i was happy to spend to get it looking back to normal. Added bonus was the car also flew through the MOT on Friday :).

I'll take a few pics of the panel when we finally get some sunshine down here in gloomy Swansea
