Clio 182 cup

After the wife decided the Zed is too precious to crash again(I’m dead if it happens again) i decided to put her out to pasture and enjoy her as a fast road/show/road trip car.

Well that’s fine but what do I race?

After several months of looking I bought this one owner low mileage 2000cc go cart a couple of weeks ago.

What a riot this is to drive.

As the modifying bug is in my veins she already has panel filter, carbon splitter, tow eye, Pagid pads and a Miltek Zorst (thanks to Bob at Tarmac) and a remap booked. Going to get the wheels sorted and some sticky tyres over the autumn ready for next season.

My cousin just got his 1.2 2003 clio written off by a left hand drive lorry, im trying to convince him to go for one of the 182 clio's, he always wanted one and he did love his 1.2 to bits even if it was slow as anything xD. How has it been treating you so far?

Awesome choice mate! I've had two 182's and loved both of them (when they worked)

I've got a full set of 16 valves in the garage if you want them as spares. They just need a little straightening out following a snapped belt and an argument with the top of the pistons

Like your cousin, I'm driving a 1.2 Clio on an 07 plate. Its fantastic. It handles so well, considering it's not a spicy model. The only thing I'd change is more oomph and stiffer ARBs. It would be lethal as a B road bashers then.

Which got me thinking, a Clio 197 must be amazing to thrash.

My first car was a 1.2 Renault Clio Sport. It was atrocious, to be honest. Didn't handle or seem to go anything like this current Clio 1.2 that I have. So, I'm curious about the older 182s.

I'll trade this current Clio in against a 197 in a couple of months.

Either that or an FN2 Type R.

While the Z has been mothballed for the winter I’ve been busy getting “Nicole” ready for the pending race season.
Well as you guys already know I don’t take car modifying lightly so this is the progress so far.

Full suspension refresh including new oem wishbones, track rod ends, ball joints, engine mounts, full power flex bush kit, brembo HC discs all round, Bilstein coil overs, Speedline turini forged wheels shod with Nangkang NS2R soft tyres. Power gains are minimal on a NA motor but CAT 438 cams are on the the way.

I love my Z but this little car is such bloody good fun to drive flat out without the fear of eating Prison food!
More soon.

Thanks guys.

My first event is a sprint on March 15th at Clay Pigeon Raceway.

Its a kart circuit (Jenson Button started his career here).

I have wrestled/drifted the Z around it several times much to the crowds amusement but recon I might snatch 3rd in "Nicole"!

I would not have thought that the first Motorsport event of the year in the pouring rain 3 weeks ago would be the last for quite some time. Bloody slippery so took things steady as not raced a front driver before. Lost the back end badly and started to spin on the last timed run but I did what I’ve been told and kept it floored and b...er me the engine pulled the trailer out! Also not used to this cocking the rear wheel lark out of a corner!I have a lot to learn. Top snapper forum member mattross1313 was trackside and took these pics which make me look so much faster so thanks mate!

Lockdown, non car shows, racing, etc forced me to book the Clio into a new Detailer local to me.

Black cars are a sod to clean at the best of times and she has serious swirl marks all over which I cannot get out by hand.
The pics below are stunning but are in a studio with bright lights.
