Black marks on Body Work

That's battle scarred paint protection film.

I hate the look of it and peel it off any cars we've had.

Took it off our Kia 8 years ago upon delivery.

I haven't seen any detrimental stone chips without it.

If it was me I'd just peel it off and bin it.

I can understand putting PPF on a bumper, but a tiny few square inches seems as pointless as wearing a bulletproof Blue Peter badge into a war zone.

Try a proper tar & glue remover instead. ;)

I’m going to hazard a guess that you you’ve just wiped or sprayed the tar remover on? If so pick up some cotton make up pads, douse them in the AG tar remover and leave them on the paint for a few minutes before wiping off, you’ll remove a lot more when it given proper time to work. You shouldn’t need compound to remove either.
