Thanks Andy, exterior wise it is already a smashing looking car, wouldnt believe it is essentially a 15 year old design. The camera doesnt really do it just for some reason. But anyway really looking at some ideas for working on the interior, want to carpet it, rework the seats etc. Also small stuff like change all the bolts in the engine bay and other fun easy stuff like that.

It wont stop there Col, will it ?

Ha knew you would say that ;) apparently the actual colour name is 'biscuit' although my neighbour commented the other day on my 'tan interior' - Tan sounds worse than brown or biscuit!

Once you clean up that tan, it’ll look great in blue alcantara ;)

I am thinking black interior with blue stitching still. Someone on the forum mocked this up for me, so something like this with subtle blue stitching.

In other news, Stubby added in place of bee-sting aerial

Well the VX enjoyed her little run out down to Cobham services then around to Ace and back the other day with the Zeds, @Payco got a nice view of the performance of this mental car following me up there!

Been doing a lot of phoning around and a lot of chatting about the interior but still not decided what to do - a chap who specialises in VX interiors is potentially going to do the work for me but he is in Stoke but visits London occasionally - not sure how much a box carrying two seats would cost to courier!

Two seemingly small but important updates

Finally got my custom carbon coolant tank cover - the coolant tanks on these cars are exposed to direct sunlight and as such the UV cracks them very quickly if left exposed. So it called for a custom carbon build!

Carbon.jpg.5dc36c641feff2862c697fb796fc4e60.jpg

Fits perfectly over the tank and the pressure of the cap (which I sprayed a nice metallic blue using plastidip) holds it in place with no need for fixings.

Second job was to clean back and seal the fabric roof, I noticed rain water not bouncing off it as well as I would like. So did some research and decided to give 303 Cleaner and Sealant a go @ilogikal1 to see how it performed. I had an old Autoglym kit sat in the cupboard but decided not to bother with it. Results are in the video below:

Excuse the ooooooooh its embarrassing but was surprised how well the run off went. I cleaned it all up last night around 7:30 then prepped it and put on the sealant - it had been curing over night in ambient temps for about 15 hours before I tried the water test. Was mightily please with it!

You are at it again Col. Nice mod. FYI, when I boxed up and sent my 350z seats to Si at Hide n Seat for a full retrim they cost me £80 each way. The key was wrapping the seat in strong cardboard and padding and not just putting them in a box which doesn't work at all. I was very impressed with how the speed was put down on your car in front of me going to the Ace, very pacey indeed.

Tiny little mod that makes all the difference in the car, engine start sticker for the start button which was just a plain metal button :teeth:

Also took time time out to remove the passenger seat. Need to grow skin back on my hands but got there in the end! They head off to the trimmer next weekend for the makeover...

Well my chap Ross picked up the door cards and seats last weekend and they are currently in Cheshire with him weaving his magic on them...should be back with me in a week or so. In the meantime, bit more cleaning out of the interior:

Properly installed the new gear and handbrake gaiters and part installed the carpet kit I bought off the VX forum, needs a fair bit of trimming(!) but its in now which is a back breaking job given the lack of access under the dash unless you are 3 foot tall:

I have carpet for the middle aluminium section in front of the gear lever but am thinking of leaving that bit uncovered, it kind of looks good to remind me of the stripped out underpinnings of a VX.

Have also plastidipped some of the door panels which were silver using a mettalic black plastidip product.

Getting there slowly but surely, interior will look a whole world away from where I started (as will my bank account...)

Mats and foot rest sorted this morning as well as trimming and fitting to the back shelf. Reattached door cards. Going to Velcro back on the infills for them rather than use the nightmare plastic poppers.

just waiting for the seats to come back now!
