Insuring a second 350z

I wasn't in the market for buying a second 350z but an opportunity has presented itself to buy one v cheap (friend of a friend is selling) so I'm going to take a look on the weekend.

The idea is that this car will mainly be used for tack days or in an emergency if there is a problem with my main car. It needs to be road legal to get to the track days.

The car has been modified, things like a plenum spacer, upgraded brakes, polybushes etc.

What's the best way to insure this car cheaply with limited miles?

I would consider just doing temporary insurance only when I need it but so far I haven't found a company that will cover modified cars for just a day or 2.

My main 350z is insured with a few mods (polybushes and brakes) for about £500 per year with hic.

Just put a quote into compare the meerkat for this second car and the cheapest quote was over £1k. Not sure if it was the plenum spacer mod or because of 0 NCB (my NCB can only be used against the 1st car right?) That bumped it up so much.

Will have to make a few phone calls to the specialist insurers by the looks of it.

Problem here is that you can only use your NCB on one vehicle. When I looked at buying a £500 old banger to run in the week I figured insurance companies would be over joyed as it meant the risk of me having an accident in my more expensive car would be significantly less. However, when I spoke to various companies, as I was using my NCB on my main car, it meant I would have no NCB on the old banger, which meant it would cost a fortune to insure, making the whole thing not financially viable. Even when I looked at so called "multi car" policies, the premium they wanted only applied my NCB to one car.

I have heard of people where companies have happily mirrored their NCB on other vehicles, but no companies offered to do that for me.

What I had to do several times in the past when I have needed to use a 2nd car for a week or so, is to take out temporary day by day insurance. I believe I used Adrian Flux last time. It wasnt cheap.

Mines mirrored with admiral, that's from my cheap 350 onto something much more pricey!

Might have to have a play on the comparison sites then with adjusting the mileage.

Got a quote from Adrian flux for single day insurance at £60 so I might just go with that whenever I need the car rather than a whole year policy, guess I just need to work out how frequently I'm actually gonna be using it.

Surely you will use it more than 10 days throughout the year? if so then the sky policy is a much better deal than this

Probably but only just. I've got the temp insurance for a day anyway so I can do a test drive and then get it home if I buy it, from there I can spend a bit more time evaluating my options

Hi.

Did you get an annual insurance rate from ourselves?

Regards,

Dan.

Hi Dan

Yes I did. It came in at 7 hundred and something which is about £100 or so more than my sky insurance quote.

I bought the car but haven't insured it for the year yet, gonna put it through its MOT v soon then think again about the insurance.

Do you think there's anything we can do to get your quote down?

Happy to speak on the phone or private msg on here.

Cheers

Martin
