Sat nav modifications?

Hi Guys,

Im a new 350z owner and have just purchased mine. ITs a 2006 GT with the sat nav. As we all know the sat nav is quite dated now and can only have up to 2013 map data.

Is there anything that can be done with that space? Have people put updated devices in there? If so is there anything i can buy to make the upgrade a bit easier. Not the greated and technical stuff so im looking for something that can be bolted in.

Looking forward to your replies and possibly a meet up or two soon.

I remember seeing a company  that sells a kit but i can't remember if it was a UK or US company. However they are not cheap, around £700 to £1k just for the housing i think without the table. I could be wrong. You'll be better off getting an android unit and ask a local auto electrician to wire it up.

Thanks Veeg33, Do you know if just a normal headunit could fit in the space?

Yes, any double or single din HU will fit the space, just need the correct fascia plate installed on your zed. Some member  modify the wiring harness to retain the controls on the steering wheel and also to get good normal sound volume (known as 'Buster' mod). I believe you can remove the GPS and replace that with a non-GPS unit which you can use as storage.

Edit : Here's a link to a DIY page on here to give you and idea what's involved

You could swap the plastic trim for the version with the cubby hole instead?

Not that cheap a mod though unfortunately, especially if you have to buy the parts new:

It would be easiest to replace the centre console with the non-navigation trim, then replace the stock radio for an updated model if you want something more modern.

I'm sure other people have fitted screens instead of the sat-nav though, so there are definitely other options
