7 Quarts!

Just cause you have a Yank motor don't come round here with your Quarts!!!!!

For the English speaking 7 Quarts =  7.95566 Litres

Monaro LS2 - 6.3l with filter change

C6 is up to 10l yes TEN in the newer models!  earlier models are 8l

Evening.

I'm not happy with it - sorry but the sump just won't do, Had a chat with @Wasso and it seems the Monaro holds the least oil at 6l and other cars with LS engines start at closer to 8l and go up,

After market sumps for the conversion manage 7.7l and up so I can to

I don't want to wreck an engine through low oil and the general opinion is they run hot, this is one of the reasons for large oil capacity.

I NEED MORE OIL CAPACITY!

Also I notice that some of the after market sumps like Sikky manage to keep the rear plate that joins onto the bottom of the bell housing

As this photo from the Sikky website shows.

SikkySump.jpg.1908d7e1ca11c473682dd8dc332d1302.jpg

I want one of those :(

So I took the engine back out and laid it on it's side

Then fitted the standard sump

See it has the back on it!

Not for long

cause I cut it off :p

Remember this -

It's back to this

A visit to the mill

We now have

IMG_1952.jpg.621599b76c476c7fc2d1ff3bad55b712.jpg

Told you I should have started again in the first place :)

Now the back plate

Mill time

My base plate is 10.2mm Thick according to the micrometer

So.....

IMG_1956.jpg.595b1c02f82abbe04ae52e4671c4e445.jpg

10.2mm removed - theory says it should line up perfectly.

Did some basic clean up on the mill to get to here

That now goes on the base plate

IMG_1961.jpg.fb40d4137ae04a88ef4967af747278b2.jpg

Bolted it on then tack welded in place.

Welded and cleaned up

To finish off I made sure it still fit

Happy now I have that

So next job is to build the rest of it from scratch with a bigger pan.

I also spotted that there is no dipstick hole in the sump, something to be addressed before it is finished.

More Soon

Keyser :)

Hi All,

Update - You may be disappointed.

I've shown it fits (and I've done one before) so the rest is just wiring and ancils etc.

BUT I actually want to take on a big project - those that watch things like Project Binky on YouTube will understand the level I want to attempt - not saying I'll do it but I want to try

I also want to do something different, I've done Rally cars, engine swaps and built both  350 and 370 SC'd cars. I was going to go retro, Mk1 Cortina or similar but after a lot of thought I decided on something I know nothing about, never built one, never driven one just seen them. A Street Rod or Hot Rod I'm not even certain where they change from one to the other yet

Any how the Zed Shell will now be stripped (advert for parts soon) and when the big bits have gone I will have room for my latest and newest Project.

Here it is ................

A 1955 Ford Pop unfinished by the previous owners but some good parts to be getting on with.

Photos from previous owber -

This is what I picked up

and outside the Zed Shed waiting for a space to be made

I'll start a build thread in other cars for anyone that is interested in something not even slightly Zed related.

That is all.
