370z Advice Please

I currently own a HR 350z and have been thinking of buying a 370z for a while now, never been keen on the HR's gearbox, always thought the shifts are long, clunky and heavy and both cars share the same CD009 gearbox unfortunately. 

 

How do owners find the automatic paddle shift gearbox ? What is it like in flappy paddle mode and to live with on a daily basis, daily driving ? Seen an article in Evo magazine from a while back saying it's the one to go for as the manual gearbox is agricultural at best ! 

 

Looking at post 2012 models so I don't get stung with the gallery gasket issue again, any other known common faults with the 370z I should be aware of ?

It’s a good reliable autobox

Left in auto it changes gear at low revs, has smooth changes and you can take your Grandma out for a ride.

Press a bit harder with your right foot and the car really shifts, again with good smooth changes, kick down responds immediately.

A flick of the lever into S mode and the car responds to much smaller inputs on the accelerator peddle and holds onto the gears a bit longer.

The paddles are very good, foot to the floor and redline gear changes arn’t quite as smooth.....but are probably a lot smoother and quicker than most manual owners can deliver.....I’ll get some stick for that!!

Using that paddles to down change you get a lovely blip of the throttle on the down change.

I would recommend you take a look at the issue of the steering lock mechanism, an easy fix and it’ll save you a £1000 bill, is to pull the fuse that controls it

I was always under the impression that the 350z HR and 370z were both fitted with the same CD009 gearbox ! What gearbox do they actually have then ?

Providing your hydraulics are good and your clutch is clearing and you are not to quick on your gearchange then the issue will probably be the synchromesh.

 

So the answer to your question is No, but the gearbox will have to be removed and stripped to fix the issue.

From the gearbox specialist that you entrust with the job or from myself or from your local Nissan dealership.

Ha ha, yeah thanks! Not really, just got a new steering wheel, Alcantara & perforated leather that’s all. How’s your yellow peril going?

check my build thread, the yellow project got steering wheel as well, fitted clear map lenses and will be going in for a retrim in September, gearbox service, then thinking of putting a final drive kit on at diff. Then maybe a tune?   :lol::thumbs:
