Thanks for the replies.

Already done my first mod - pulling the fuse on the Electronic Steering Lock :)

Wonderful to have all this info available.  I imagine I will experience some interesting faults that I can share (usually happens whenever I buy a car).

Welcome to the forum. Did you buy from a guy called Paul?

No, I bought it from a RangeRover dealer in Birkenhead.  The previous owner had part-exed it for a RangeRover and the dealer just wanted a quick sale.  Nice guy though.

I had to jump for it because it only has 26,500 on the clock and it was a really good price for that mileage.   I don't know who the previous owner was before it was sold to the RangeRover dealer.

The previous owner had de-catted it and then put it back on before he sold it.  Well, not quite... HPI check showed that he had tried to put it through an MOT with no cats installed and (predictably) it failed.  Cats were then put back on and the car passed MOT before being part-exed at the RR dealer.   RR dealer added a Stainless Steel cat-back exhaust to "improve" the sound but also gave me the old exhaust along with the car.  Exhaust sounds nice enough but I would have been OK with stock exhaust.

There's definitely a problem with the exhaust/cat installation once the car gets warm and it leaks fumes into the cabin when the blower is on.  It wasn't the case 3 weeks ago when I bought it so it's fairly consistent with gasket leakage with repeated expansion-contraction after installation.  I am hoping to have that sorted by the end of next week.  Brake pads were almost down to the plates (front) and the RE050 tyres were at their legal limit.  It now has new pads and new Pilot Sport 4 tyres :)

Fitting new tyres has made a huge difference.

Whoever previously had the car, they seem to have taken real care of it.  It seems immaculate inside and outside.

The Gearbox whines, the clutch rattles like a tractor when the car is in neutral and there are occasional clanks from the back end especcially during the first mile or so of driving.  I like the whines and rattles.  I didn't want a Lexus.

This is my first Nissan  Z car and I am really enjoying it.

Welcome to the OC

Really feeling yellow cars now that the summer sun has arrivedB)

Yeah.  I wouldn't have picked yellow by choice but it does seem to work with sunny days.  Seems like a very "lighthearted" colour :)

Im not sure about the 370Z but the 350Z gearbox was very mechanical and you could hear the changes and whines on the outside. Clutch and gearbox have probably been through the wars. On my older cars I made sure during the first service I did regardless of history they changed the gearbox oil. Might worth looking into. Molyslip on the 350Z improved it a lot

Clutch on my old 350Z mine was worn and high. But didnt get any worse over 18 months even pushing the car now and again. Obviously a few donuts and burnouts would have finished it. Might try a yellow car in the future with black wheels. Something different!
