RE050 Ecopia.

Due to a foreign object wedged in a place that needs the tyre replacing, is the Ecopia RE050 a suitable replacement for the RE050 on the rear of my Z? Current size is 255/45/18 99Y. I can get the same tyre elsewhere but it seems they're phased out for the S001.

Size is correct for that brand of bridgestone - not a great rating on them either

129 a tyre could do better, personal preference leaning towards some falkens for the same sort of price...

Mine were changed by the previous owner to the size I have, had no issues with it. For the record the RE050 Ecopia is a Bridgestone tyre. I booked myself in with Black Circles to have on fitted on Saturday so I'll have the correct tyre.

Tyre? Singular? Please make sure the one on the other one is only very slightly worn (like sub 1k miles), or you’ll need to change both otherwise you’ll have a dangerous car.

Which you might have anyway, as I cannot seem to find too much info on the Ecopia designation. It may just be a new name but the exact same tyre, or it may be a completely different tread pattern and compound. If the pattern is not 100% identical, then DO NOT FIT IT unless you fit as a pair.

The Bridgestone press release? That’s about as much as I could find too, and it really wasn’t very helpful.

I suspect it’s a branding exercise, but I wouldn’t want to commit to that.

Yes that press release. Otherwise they don't even feature on tyrereviews.co.uk which is odd? So many tyres make it on to there even obscure ones!

I never read that site, it's just a popularity contest for people to shout that the tyre they bought is amazing, regardless of whether it's actually any good or not. Bit like the modern Top 40, just because a song is popular does not mean it's any good

It's all about relativity though. There are tyres on there scoring bad scores...on the whole if there are enough ratings ie over a thousand and all people are talking equally positive one tyre that gets 90% doesn't mean it's almost perfect, what it does mean is if another tyre gets 80% with again thousands of reviews it's likely in all probability that the first one will be better...

Maybe, but a lot of it comes down to price. You get people who refuse to ever spend decent money on decent rubber and who will claim that the FK453s are amazing and capable of handling their uber-Evo, but ultimately that's only because they're too tight to try something better. Then you get the opposite, the people who only ever buy brand names and refuse to accept that actually the Pirelli P Zero is a shockingly bad tyre, but because F1 use it then it must be amazing so it gets a high score.

On some tyres sure, it's probably a reasonable presumption but ultimately I'd rather listen to five people who know what they're talking about than a million who have no idea. Same reason I use specialist advice for suspension rather than a dozen people saying "Oh just go to X as they've got a Hunter machine".

Although pretty much all tyres on there rate overall between 70 and 95 percent, its a case of putting them in order. So not everyone rates them fantastically well, and the internet is also known for whinging as much as praising.

Agreed on experts, although as we have found, finding experts on every tyre available is nigh on impossible (yourself excluded of course :notworthy::lol:

I've checked the n/s/r tyre & it's on 5mm, in fact both rears are 5mm. Last thing I could've done with was a tyre replacement so close to pay day, so if handling is compromised that much I'll get another one ordered on pay day next month so the rears are new & matching.

Thanks for the info everyone:D.

You won’t know the handling is bad until you’re sideways. Assuming the new tyre is 7mm new, then I’d be changing both then selling the other on eBay to recoup costs.

Trust me, it’s really not worth the risk especially when we don’t even know if the tyre is the same. Pop it on a credit card and worry about it later, you really can’t be having odd tyres across an axle ever.

Arrived there early today & they set to work straight away. I asked to see the tyre & it did indeed have Ecopia further round the tyre. On the Blackcircles website there's no mention this. Before anything was done I checked the n/s/r tyre & to my surprise that also had Ecopia on it, but a little further round the rim. Looks like I have a pair of those, so I told them to carry on with the fitting. Will give it a few days to see if handling is affected & then more than likely just order another of the same to keep it balanced. The 2 guys there loved the bumper tuck & were both chatting away with me about the exhaust & the Z's in general.

Just to update this. Both tyres were exactly the same brand / model as the 2 removed, both fitted within a week of each other, so roughly 100 miles apart. I sometimes get a weird twitch sensation from the back when going round long, not too tight, sweeping bends. It's kind of like power to the back wheels is being cut slightly. Are the tyres still bedding in, if they need to be??

I look forward to the traction control Post in a few days

Worn 225/45 on the front

Brand new 255/45 on the rear

^ I suspect this ^

How worn are your fronts?

I've not got the same tyre sizes as you but when I first bought my Zed I replaced the rear tyres and had the same issue when sometimes going around long sweeping corners around 50-70mph.

The issue turned out to be the difference in rolling radius between the front and rear wheels (the rear tyres were brand new whereas the fronts were pretty low). This was upsetting the traction control which must be pretty sensitive on the Zed.

I swapped out the fronts too and haven't had the issue since

Fronts are both on 4mm & are RE040

Hmm maybe not then  I'd say its still worth checking but I guess that's a bit difficult unless you can borrow a couple of wheels/tyres

@Ekona: I've not noticed it, but I was looking in my wing mirrors at the time to check what was around me.

@Jack94: Fronts are both on 4mm & are RE040.

has this resolved itself?

I am having similar traction control issues.
