Radical - Revamped

Keyser

Recommended Posts

As I haven't updated the old build thread in months and photo-bucket killed all the pics I thought I would start a new thread with a summary and progress,

So we started from here -

RAD.jpg.e07273ead77d59ccc4c3bae170def682.jpg

Currently we are here(ish)

large.59a13f0f1aa12_IMG_20170715_153152(003).jpg.6681bd03831b68d0cf24dfae21a94aac.jpglarge.59a13f0f4418a_IMG_20170709_181805(002).jpg.fc3998f1e8093b428d0e63bb0348098b.jpg

But it's been a while getting there

The end does appear to be in sight now though after all the usual problems associated with a new build on the dyno - water leak, oil leak, low oil pressure, fuelling issue (thanks Jez @Jez @ H-Dev for the advice) and a radiator rubbing on the cage we eventually finished the dyno on Saturday morning :)

IMG_0618.MOV

Run No 071 about 1.5 Bar boost and she is pushing 348.42 HP the 200HP run is spring pressure (6psi) only and the others are various pressures up to 1.5 Bar

Happy with that we also did a run at 1.6 - 1.7 bar and she made 382HP however when we tried anything over 1.5 on Saturday we could not hold traction on the dyno. We know she will make over 400 if we could keep the grip but as we are going to be running her on 5 settings from 200 - 300 for the first few track days we never got an absolute max reading still more than happy with what I have for now though

I'll try and keep you updated as we do the huge list of things needed to get her ready for track then it's fingers crossed for a bit of nice weather before the end of the year for a track day.

In other news we modified the steering wheel

Great to see this back up and running, two fingers to dirty photobucket.

Speaking of dirty, that splitter could do with a wipe down :-p

Nah that would be to easy - already painted I'll get pics soon (promise)

Here is a bit of fun, the modified steering wheel -

DSC00027.jpg.1a740aa743ad5f85b8476e18c7bf0b7e.jpg

Now has SLM (Shift Light Module) at the top because race car :)

The three buttons are

Red - Launch control (no use at the moment but ready for hillclimb and sprint)

Blue - Flash all headlights (cause we could  )

White - Overtake button, O yes we went there it bypasses the AMS 2000 boost controller speed over boost settings and just gives you max punch - should make getting past @AndyJames easier :stir:

Great job Chris - pleasing to see all that hard work has paid off.....  Don't forget to shout me for ShakeDown!  And no I'm not racing you before you even dare ask!

Thanks mate, As I said slowest lap buys lunch - I'm sure a man with a 500HP V8 Zed is up for a little challenge and if it's Castle Combe I'll spot you 10 seconds it will be fun

and I get a free lunch :stir:  :p

AND as I've also said, I've had 4 laps of the ring, no other track time.  Novice versus Amateur - P2WR Zed 300bhp per tonne versus 580bhp per tonne..... + Aero..... I say 20 second head start!

Deal?

Go on then 20 seconds - good chance I won't get a free lunch at that level I'll need under 1:10 to have a chance - it can be done though (not that I'm that quick lol)

This guy is -

I dream of being that good/fast

OK Thought I'd add this first as it was a major change - not that everything else wasn't but I'm quite proud of how it came out - no doubt I will now be flamed but Meh

So one of the first problems with the new charge cooler was - It did not fit

1.thumb.JPG.00c345e04e867738d58b87375716b34b.JPG

So we trimmed a bit out to get it in

2.jpg.5d3b4368b6b76c2fe1cff45384900782.jpg

then more

3.jpg.21db4248b4bcaccf32d532ec84914e27.jpg

and more but that 2nd rad needed moving

4.jpg.2ea75e0c8d5140842ca167cb51a5e6a3.jpg

not much left when we got it all in so ...........................

We cut it all out and made a cardboard cover

6a.jpg.930f5ce89aece88d38558e4921976320.jpg5.jpg.23a1ee8ff1c2b7c31a92961fe195f65e.jpg6.jpg.b58f8116a4bc2c18d0ee61ef63c210f4.jpg

Now I thought that would be fine but others said it would not be good enough for track use

So I had a brain storm - expanding foam - it's like duck (duct) tape it fixes loads of things

7.jpg.e521dfc30595e1d7aa5ce7d88b96e848.jpg

Hmm not feeling it - some shaping is required

8.jpg.67647bd333a4636ea15685edf5652aeb.jpg

Better

9.jpg.743e86c101afaf853b17c38cfb29d244.jpg

Now all we had to do was cover it in Fibre Glass let it dry and remove the foam -

10.jpg.e6097828b892dee4ed61925e461cb9f0.jpg

Sorted and marked for inlets

Start of the back

Shame we have to sod about like this because of Photobucket  I've actually edited my throttle body post it took hours but never mind it's done now.

You know I think your picture quality has improved over time :p

but seriously I'm impressed with the professional finish you guy's get with some expanding foam and fibreglass

:)

Why should that matter? It only has a handful of parts still in common with the SR3 :D

Best reply ever - I spoke to the track day organisers and they have different hosts for different days, so he suggest I switch to a day run by a different host, in this case Javelin.

To be sure he said he would confirm with Javelin before booking and email me confirmation,

This was the email response -

javelin said as long as you are okay with being faster than everyone else that should be fine, obviously it would have to abide by the noise limit.

:lol::lol::lol:

Of course I can't actually go now as if I do and some top notch driver in a stripped out M3 flys past I will look a numpty - Great response though
