P0014 & P0024 - never ending issue

Another p0014/p0024 thread

Im really starting to loose my @*!# over this now.

I have replaced all 4 camshaft position sensors (my z is a GT4) twice now, once with blueprint sensors and now genuine nissan ones however the car is still throwing up these error codes. I have even replaced the crank sensor just encase

has anyone come across this before ? im getting fedup of pulling my hair out now trying to sort the issue

Im thinking would it be something to do with the VVT control unit maybe ? most threads i come across tend to resolve the issue by simply replacing the sensors.

Ive also see on a US thread that someone had to replace their flywheel..... no idea how that would be related to the camshaft position sensors

please help !

Karl.

Did this issue start after the clutch was fitted?

If the flywheel was removed and put back on in the incorrect position it will call up codes and not run properly.

This has been posted many times after clutch changes.

This may or may not be the issue, just thought id throw it out there.

I've had this recently. First off the codes that were thrown were the P0011 and P0021 but further down the line were the cam position sensor codes you have. I changed the timing chain and the codes remained. Swapped out all the same sensors as you did, no change. I swapped out the VVT solenoids, no change.

Mark at Abbey was a massive help for me and after the chain was replaced I got an UpRev cable and sent him some logs that he analysed for me. Top bloke especially seen as he was just about to head off on holiday.

Got the car up in the air, (well the garage did) dropped the gearbox and found out the flywheel (which had been fitted for nearly 2yrs) was fitted incorrectly. Personally if your car has EVER had a clutch or flywheel replaced then I would get a garage to take it off and check. You can check with a bore cam without removing the box but its quite hard to know what to look for if your not familiar with the Zeds. My garage spoke to Horsham for advice and determined that it was fitted incorrectly. They refitted it and all was fine, no more error codes and the car drives like a dream.

This fix cost me £275 for labour however this would've been alot cheaper if they had just dropped the box first rather than try to do research and get in there with a bore cam to inspect.

Much cheaper than the £1500 that I spent on the timing chain, sensors etc etc.

Thanks for the help guys,

gonna get the gearbox off sometime this week and check the flywheel positioning

just find it so strange how that can affect cam sensors but hey those crazy japs

I have this on mine also. I swapped the engine and had ano extreme clutch/flywheel combo fitted at the same time. Since the engine has been swapped the eml has been on with the same code. I've swapped sensors from the old engine and still the same thing.

Most threads start on the topic but never post the resolution!! I've read about the flywheel/crank sensor not being fitted correctly but surely if you take it to the same garage you had it done at they aren'the going to admit fault and charge you for the labour. I've noticed that there's a bit less oomph lower down the rev range with the eml light on and it's almost as if there's a powerband around 4k revs.

Are there any nissan/350z specialists in the south wales area that will look at this? Abbey/Horsham etc are in bloody London!

Just to update everyone,

whipped the flywheel off this weekend and it was pretty obvious what the issue was,

the flywheel was about 90 degrees out, re aligned and problem solved :) i now have 200+ worth of sensors sat there collecting dust that i didnt need, lesson learned

thanks
