Is this part required?

Hi all,

Recently purchased and installed some Cybox short tails (which sound awesome!).

Between 3-4k rpm I've been hearing a small metallic vibration, I suspected what it was all along - the heat shield that sat above the stock backbox.

I removed it tonight and it's much better. I assume it is a heat shield, here is the part I'm referring to:

Do I need this now I'm running short tails?

Here are the pipes as they are now, assuming it is a heat shield the pipes go nowhere near the bottom of the car so it should be OK?

Thanks in advance :)

What do you think of the cybox short tails? I am thinking of fitting these too. I had a quick look at removing the back box and the nuts are very badly rusted. I suspect the studs will shear when I try to remove them. Did you have any trouble removing the back box? Also, did you fit new gaskets or were the existing ones ok?

Iv got the short tails, sound awesome, but my bolts were rusted too and needed cutting out and replacing, also it did need new gaskets as the old ones were knackered. But well well worth it in the end!ðŸ‘ðŸ»

My nuts were pretty corroded, took my mechanic a good 30 mins to drill them out.

Cybox was good, a lot louder than stock especially on a cold start. Had the annoying reverb between 3-4k RPM too which was irritating, but managed to subdue it by insulating my boot floor. After 500 miles or so it quietened down too which helped. Other than that, pretty good :D
