Front drop links maybe...?

Hi all =)

Have a knocking from both front corners when going over uneven surfaces at lower speeds.

I've read that this may or may not be the front ARB drop links, but a cursory drive in the passenger seat had a mechanic saying it probably was.

I've ordered replacement parts and intend to attempt fitting myself.

I wondered if the knocking was most likely this or something else?

Aside from the drop links and nuts, what do I need tools and accessories wise? I have pretty much zero experience under a car but am trying to learn ^_^

I have a trolley jack, axle stands, wheel chocks. I intend to go buy some ratchet spanners in a little while.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated =D

Release oil/spray might help, if the bolts have never been moved thay can a pain to do. Ive seen the lads have to grind them off some really troublesome ones (it was an ancient saab). The problem is theyre pretty exposed to the elements. I believe some fitments need a spanner and an alan key, spanner on the bolt, alan key in same side.

Have spanners, wrench, allen keys, breaker bar =) Does WD40 count as release spray? Will I need a torque wrench at all?

Are the droplinks the most likely source of the knocking? Wondering if I should do anything else while I'm poking around under there =)

I'd say they're most likely the source (not that I've heard them personally lol), yeah wd40 should be fine. You'll struggle to get a torque wrench under the arch, but I'd always advise torquing the wheels to Manu spec. While you're under is always a good excuse to have a poke round checking for play in track rods, leaking shocks etc, thickness of brake pads inner and outer.

I'll have a read up on those bits and check them out, thank you =) I should probably order a torque wrench to arrive this week so I can get things done next weekend!

If the drop links don't fix it it'll be banana bars

Ok cool, thank you =) As I understand it the banana arms are a fair bit more expensive, so I'm hoping it's the droplinks!

I too have a slight knocking/creaking sound but i took it a specialist garage and after some checks found nothing wrong with anything including all the bushes...and they heard the sound but still can't find it lol

Eep, that sucks =( I'm hoping mine is the droplinks or I will be spending part of this coming weekend for nothing!

notoriously difficult to diagnose ... yours will probably be the ball joint if the bushes are OK ... trying braking while still powering along at low speed, if the noise goes it's deffo the dreaded B A N A N A B A R BALL JOINT

+1 Mechanics checked all suspension and used bars with full weight on one end and nothing was moving to warrant the noise, Banana Arms replaced as per recommendations from other owners on the forum, and guess what problem resolved....

Did change the Drop Links when purchased my new Eibach Arbs from Torqen.

Try Drop Links first as cheaper for you, if no cure then as ATTAK Z mentioned Banana Arms I'm afraid
