coldel Posted September 8, 2016 Share Posted September 8, 2016 The phone jack was always the 'widest' part of the components in the phone which dictates how flat it can be - I suppose it had to go, and you can still use an adapter to plug your trusty 3.5mm in. But the cost, give me a break, its going a bit too far past being a premium product now. The camera is ok for taking snaps as I said, you can up the MPs all your like but good quality photos come from focal lengths (my old DSLR with 8mp took better quality photos than a camera phone with 16mp) and a phone will never be able to achieve that. In short, I think its becoming a bit farcial what they are charging - understand you have to cover your investment and sunk costs but these are being knocked out at a cost to Apple of probably £10 a go in China. Yeah, you'd be absolutely bonkers to buy one of these. Lots of on the go semi-pro app usage, or lots of graphics-heavy gaming? I can can see why you'd want one. Tell you what did make me stop in amazement last night, was when they said that over 90% of ALL contactless payments in the US are done by ApplePay. That's absolutely astounding! Is contactless just not the done thing in the US (I know they don't use chip and pin, and prefer signatures), or is ApplePay bigger over here than I give it credit for, or have they started a revolution over there? The other thing to make me giggle was the announcement that YOY app downloads between July-Aug 15-16 was up by 106%. Can you just imagine the R&D that goes behind the doors to create the chips they use: W1, A10 etc, or the tech behind the camera to achieve bookeh like on a DSLR camera, the clinical trials to get the algorithms for apple watch that measure accurately burned calories for the swimmers depending on arm strokes, pulse and other sensors and so on. Is not only the hardware, some say Apple is using hardware that it has been used by other makers for years, is how they implement everything that makes them the best: hardware, software and services. It all works seamless. HomeKit will be a massive thing in the next years. AppleWatch became no 2 brand watch sold in the world after Rolex in just 18 months. We're getting a bit like the analysts on each quarter when financial results are expected from Apple and always exceeded, yet the stock price still goes down because it wasn't exceeded by a lot more. We're expecting a lot more revolutionary technology from Apple every year with every device launched forgetting that they're actually improving on something that works perfectly already. I cannot identify what the step change is here that makes me want to give up a phone that currently doesn't have any failings in meeting what I need to do so why change it? In fact looking at my ownership of iPhones I had the first one, the 4 then the 6 I don't really see big steps in subsequent phone tech and happy to hang on to my phone for a fair few years. Remove the headphone jack to decrease size add then a bigger camera lens bump.... I presume the camera lens bump isn't included when they measure the width. My 6plus is more than enough for my needs right now, in fact I think when I do 'upgrade' I'll probably go for the smaller form factor as it's just a little too bulky for me. The watch is interesting, I have the sport today and its biggest let down is having to be tethered to my phone which is a pain as Ive just done couch to 5k and my runs are getting a little further my phone is a hinderence but I need it to track. I also left my watch at home when I went on holiday this year as I didn't want to forget I was wearing it when I went swimming/snorkelling. The watch I may consider in a few months time. The camera on new iPhone 7 plus has no better specs, I've got a 128gig microSD cars for storage in addition to the 32gig built in. The battery life will last a full 24hr worth of use with no issues. But the best thing is the Google Play store, so many more useful apps. Want to down load a YouTube video, no problems, strip the audio file, again no issues. Access podcasts, again no issues. Got a SNES emulator too, and all the email/calendar apps you expect. After over two decades of just using Apple/Mac products I cannot see my self buying another Apple product. I also have photos and videos taken on the mobile devices over the years, have about 15GB free left on the iPhones and iPads, all 128GB.
