That's the plan Dave.........35HR is 10.6:1 and 37VHR went to 11:1.........so pushing it a bit further with my build. Will be mapped to V power and I may throw in a bottle of Millers CVL turbo when on track days just to be on the safe side!

So happy to have this in the diary to look forward to in 2019..................be so good to do some flying laps on the king of all race tracks again!! Last time there was in 2016 when this car was very standard by comparison to where it is now so should be a different experience this time out.........please be dry and sunny!

Think the stock oil pump is fine up to factory rev limit but I didn't want to take any chances so I installed a set of chromoly billet oil pump gears from Boundary Pumps when I carried out the engine work start of last year, I'll carry them over with the new engine build as they are good to 9000rpm so I wont be troubling that any time

Not much to update here but block, crank, pistons and rods are all down at the machine shop to get all that side of the job done and then assembly can start! The second engine was meant to make the build more relaxed but I can't wait to get it all back already!! I now have all the big and costly parts for this build, its just gaskets etc that'll be required to finish it which is good!

 

While at the machine shop I did get a chance to take a look at the new clutch..........clutches shouldn't be so good looking!!!

And lastly am doing a little bit of shopping for some tools to make the assembly better and more easy...........so picked up a Wiseco 96mm tapered piston ring compressor sleeve which will enable the pistons to just push straight down into the bores nicely

Thanks! Without taking any increase in efficiency into account then just the increase to 3.7ltr should make it 362hp (@98hp/ltr)............the higher compression ratio should net gains across the whole rev range though so I'm hoping closer to 370hp is achievable.

I'll probably leave factory 7500k rev limiter in place for reliability but if power is still building then I'll let it run 8k.......beyond that I think I'd be asking for trouble!

A little update from the machine shop...........(sorry, no pics though at shops request)

 

Block has been inspected and is in great shape (kind of knew that after stripping it down but good to have the boys confirm it), same news of the crank too. All journals have been light polished and measured for wear and are all perfect and equal.......which confirms its a zero mile item as I was told when I bought it.

 

Block decks have been skimmed

 

Pistons and rods have all been balanced. Total piston weight and conrod end to end weights matched......... 2 pistons were out the box were at the top and tail of CP's +/- 1gram tolerance giving close to a 2gram total difference in this case so some material was machined away to get within 0.5gram across all 6 pistons. Pins have been matched to specific pistons as part of the process too.

 

All the rods were good enough with total and end weights so were left as they came out the box.

 

The calculation were then done from the new piston/rod weights to work out the bob weights required for balancing the crankshaft

 

Crank was then spun up.......it was nearly 53grams out

 

After removing material from the counterweights it was now 0.32grams

 

With the flywheel, cover plate and internal floating plates all installed it read 2.98grams out (under 5grams with multi plate clutches is considered very good) and the decision was made to leave it at that instead of start removing further weight from the flywheel and potentially taking any structural integrity away from it.

 

Only things left to do are the block to be bored to 96mm and honed, piston ring end gaps can then be checked and set. Hopefully be good to go and collect in the next few weeks and then everything will need a massive wash out to remove all the swarf from all the work that's been done and then things can start going together!

Yeah, run it all past Dave first and go with whatever he says!

 

Cheers, yes should be good when it's all together, its not stuff you can see or show off but all makes a massive difference where it counts. Believe knife edging would remove too much weight which would then need adding elsewhere to balance. Not convinced there would be any gains in doing it in the VQ either.

Not engine engineering, I'm a heating engineer.........I've built a few engines now (Vauxhall C20let turbo's, Honda B16 Vtec, Subaru flat 4 and Evo 4G63) really enjoy it so learnt along the way. Got some good friends at the machine shop that have always advised me on what and how to do it properly which has been very useful too.

Not engine engineering, I'm a heating engineer.........I've built a few engines now (Vauxhall C20let turbo's, Honda B16 Vtec, Subaru flat 4 and Evo 4G63) really enjoy it so learnt along the way. Got some good friends at the machine shop that have always advised me on what and how to do it properly which has been very useful too.
