Any thoughts on tyres? Im looking for a good all rounder and as I live in scotland wet weather performance is a must

Oddly I typed my reg into the ASDA site and they didn't show any Michelen tyres but if i navigate to MPS5 tyres they seem to have the right fitment.

These are correct aren't they?

Given how little I use the Z they seem like a useful thing to fit so I'm not checking the pressures all the time needlessly

They have to be an improvement on my Potenzas, which thank heavens are starting to wear and a good excuse to replace!   

Any opinions welcome!

I'm torn between what wheels to go for, can anyone recommend any reasonably priced wheels for daily use.. I will be lowering my 350z at some point also 

Currently sporting a MPS4 with a huge circular gouge on the wall, due to me running the Zed up the road to blow the cobwebs off and running that wheel practically flat... ouch. I know. Tw@@t

All other corners are Nice and healthy, so ill be replacing with a fresh PS4. But it has me thinking...

Is there a cheaper alternative to the PS4s, I am well aware quality and grip are sacrificed for cost, I do not expect the same tyre just cheaper. I don't drive the Z as much as I used to, and its certainly not driven as if it was on a track. Is there a tyre that is more wallet friendly, aimed at spirited Sunday drives and the occasional blue lit razz to tescos?

My logic is if there are reliable tyres at below the 85-95 make, I may be tempted. If we only talking a reduction to say 100-120 I'd just give up and stick with the PS4s...

My imported 350 didn't come with a space saver and sods law I'm going to have a puncture at some point.

My car has brembos and currently running 275/35/Y19 on the rears. My speedo is out more than normal so I use a GPS one (not sure if this is resolvable with current alloys).

Will a standard space saver fit? Two on eBay from 2015 and 2017 (my car is 2016 rev up)

I'm not bothered about saving weight or bigger boot so space saver seems less hassle than tyre weld.

Gutted as there was alot of tread left.

Luckily I was near home and stopped a couple times to keep some pressure in the tyre while I limped home.

Even more lucky that Blackcircles had a MPS4s in stock and managed to get it to their depot at the Tesco Extra store 2 min from my house for fitting this morning.

I got a week off now and dreaded the thought of being Zedless during my week off or even over the Christmas holidays .

£220 lighter but happy now I've got my zed back in action

However, the road wheels aren’t exactly the spec for racing around on track due to their width and offset and I think when pushed hard will be scraping the arches, plus I don’t want to shred my road tyres either. So I have the original Rays that came on the car and plan is to get some OEM size tyres to go on those for track day duties as it’ll probably only be a handful of times.

But I want to be able to throw the Rays on at home and drive to the circuit and back save trying to carry wheels etc.

So recommendations on decent tyres for the odd track day that are road legal for the drive to and from please? 
 

Preferably an all rounder just in case said track day ends up being greasy or wet as it is England after all! Not looking to set the world on fire with the most expensive tyres for the fastest lap times, just something half decent at least while I get used to the car in track conditions and progress as I’m not sure how many times I’ll get to go around work so don’t want to break the bank on tyres that may only be used once or twice.

The one's I like the look of are; F 8.5x18 et32 & R 9.5x18 et35. I wanted to keep the 18's because I've hear that the 19's negitivly effects handling too much and the traction control also has issues.

I'm going for either 245's or 255's on the front and would like to go upto 275's on the rear, I believe these should fit but whcih side wall profile should I go for? With the pot holes and speed bumps around here I'm still on factory suspension and like having the higher profiles extra protection, that being said how it looks is also important.

I've had a read of some of the other threads on this topic and it sounds like most prefer 40's over 45's and that the 45's can look a little balloony especially on the rear, obviously I'd like to avoid this. Just to confuse things further the retailer I'm buying from says that the correct profile is 35's on the rear and 45's on the front for these wheels.

It seems the more infomation I get the more confusing things are, so I figured I'd ask the pro's here

The specs for the wheels are: Fronts = 8.5" ET 33 Tyres are Goodyear eagle F1 235/35 19. 6mm Tread. Rears = 9.5" ET35 Tyres are Goodyear eagle f1 265/30 19. 3mm Tread.

Now im mostly thinking of skidding, but since it's not standard, wondering is anyone running those and does it still feel good/better or maybe worse ?

 

You wonder how safe such cheap tyres would be so was wondering if anyone here has tried them?

Let me tell you straight! these were an absolutel C&@“ to do, if you’ve got some crazy wide alloys with low profile you buy your mechanic a box of chocolate to dampen his pain! 

the amount of times I needed an extra 4 pairs of arms to keep the tyre below the bead seat so I could pull him over was ridiculous! once I had won that battle it was all downhill! 

untill I got to those lovely Center a

caps hahaha!

There was no issues before the tyre change. Had the garage spend a day checking tyre pressure, suspension and road testing. They said it can't be the wheel balancing but i asked them to redo it anyway and they will tomorrow. They said I'd have to buy another set of tyres to test as they have no part worn ones at my size to test...

Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas what steps to take next? I might bite the bullet and order some Michelin PS4's...

UPDATE: 29/04/2017 - Garage did another wheel balance and found the offside rear rim had a minor bend (I have no vibration and that's been there before the tyre change. Although I will look to buy a new rim). Only other thing they could explain for the handling issue was that the Pirelli Nero Zero GT's have a softer wall than the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, so when the backend is catching up with the front the rear tyres are "streaching" with a certain force (making sense that it's only happening from 50mph and above).

FINAL UPDATE: 17/10/2020 - I had a Pirelli sale rep work with me and he offered a discount if I bought a front pair of Pirelli Zero's, he then replaced the rears for free with the same model of tyre. I went with it and the handling was absolutely fine after that. Although I could tell the handling was not as good as the original Michelin Pilot Super Sport. The main thing was that all the wobble in the handling instantly f**ked off.
