Painting inside sills?

Odd question having some rusty sill repairs is there a way to get some paint and protection inside the sills after it’s welded up? Or would it be a case of getting a drill and a rubber bung gromit 😱! Thanks

Finally got round to sorting ONE rim today.

1 hour repeatedly applying paint stripper with a brush and wiping wit a kitchen towel to the bottom half.

Then rolled the car forward and another hour on the other half.

Washed and coated with Soft99 Fusso.

My 350 is a Japanese import with non standard colour and a Weber Sports body kit and I have a little bumper damage.

I’m after a touch up pen as a temporary measure but how can I find the correct paint? It’s a small amount of damage and will be temporarily so roughly similar will be ok for now.

I’ve attached a picture of anyone can guess 🤣

Chipped paintwork on front arch

Hello everyone,

I’ve just noticed on my front left wing there is a slight chip in the paintwork exposing some bare metal. No idea how this has happened, presumably a stone was flicked up by the wheel and it struck the arch right on the lip.

Is this something I need to get sorted soon and is there a risk of rust spreading throughout the arch? Can this just be touched up, or does this kind of thing mean the arch must be re-sprayed?

I'm hopefully picking up a Z soon and I plan to keep it for the foreseeable future. Rust is a concern of mine so I'd like to get it properly dealt with. Rustbuster and South West Rust Proofing keep popping up in my, albeit limited, searches. Does anyone have any experience with either of them? If not, any other recommended places or suggestions?

Not noticed any rust yet on my 04 JDM but I'm planning ahead and going to giver her a good once over with some rust prevention spray. My main question is where does rust historically accumulate, and which is the best brand of rust prevention spray to use?

Going to have the car up on the lift in a few days. Wanted to do some protection while im under there. Its reasonably clean for its age and mostly just surface rust. But i want to take some steps to keep it that way.

I am planning to clean away any surface rust and use Bilt Hamber SC-50 for cavities. And for exposed metal surfaces (such as W brace) i will use BH Dynax-UC or maybe BH Electrox, not sure which is more appropriate.

Just wondering if others who have done this have any tips for areas to look out for, or must do's while im under there? Or any advice on products etc

Repair and Repaint Job

Back in June, my car got hit by some guy in a car park. Since then I’ve been sourcing parts from everywhere including members on this forum. Work is now in progress after a 2 month long waiting list to get my car into the body shop (he’s always busy).

I now have some pictures of updates as to what the repair job looks like. If it’s even half as good as the pictures let on, I’m going to be really happy.

Afternoon Guys,

Looking for someone with some knowledge to help me on the best thing to do with my arches. Also ignore that the car is due a proper detail/wash lol, that's getting done tomorrow.

Got some photos of my arches below first one has been repaired/patched not a cut/weld job.

Wondering if anyones used or had experience with this company for front wings? One of mines started to rot, the others started to crack and think I'll get both sorted:

My rims have diamond cut lips and centres.

On one of the rims, as the years have passed, the rim has lost it's mirror finish and started looking cloudy.

I imported these new in 2007 and have used them daily.

No removal to fit winter wheels just enjoy them all year round.

Since day 1 they have been cleaned weekly with just shampoo and no harsh chemicals.

For the first few years they were treated to Chemical Guys Wheel Gaurd monthly.

Then around 2012 I started doing a yearly decon and Gtechniq C5 coating.

Today I gave the cloudy area a scrape with my fingernail and very fine dusty flecks come away revealing a perfectly untarnished machined finish below.

The cloudy layer is still steadfast in certain areas so scraping with my nail to do the whole lip in one sitting is highly unlikely.

Do you think this could be layer upon layer of old C5 or just the 14yr old lacquer giving up the ghost.

Strange thing is the other 3 rims look fine.

After much looking around for new wiper arms "couldn't be bothered painting them" with no luck i decided to paint them so off i went to get some supplies and needless to say the mini project has started, didn't take any before pics on the car however here are some with the corroded areas worked down to the metal, i only had a little bit of paint bubbling but when i took them off it was a little more widespread that i thought but hey ho not worth doing twice so lets do it right first time...

I did a trawl recently as to the best "wash n go" product for everyday use to keep the Zed looking pristine. Up came a product from Halfords- Car Wash and Wax! Not only is it inexpensive, around a tenner and does a good job. Have been successfully using it for some weeks now. Its worth a go before Dodo juicing!

Double Cover or Folding Garage?

Hey team,

So I've recently purchased a fantastically cared for orange Z that has been garaged. And my garages are so old their regulation size isn't big enough to fit the damn thing inside. Live in flats by the way.

So from all my hunting around looks like I have two options.

1. The double cover approach cotton/water proof outer layer.

2. source a folding garage.

Whats your thoughts on these? The folding garage sounds expensive, however I can even really find a UK supplier. All i know is dimensions are roughly 4.3mx1.8m

Will the covers ruin the paint work through abrasion?

Can anyone help & advise? I've a few splashes of paint on the drivers seat. I've searched on line, tried virgin oil, Vaseline etc. No good, at least thus far. I've seen a product - Citrol 166 made by Shaeffer. Its only available in the US! Is there another product/procedure that works? Thanks a lot! N13GEY

I am looking for any info/leads on where is good to get any bodywork done. I stay in Dundee and hoping there will be someone nearby. Alot of the places I've tried refuse to work on it due to the colour.

Waxoyl Undersealing

I recently had my MOT and pleased to say it successfully passed with no issues. While the car was on the ramp I asked the tech whether he thought it could do with being waxoyled or undersealed in some way. He said he thought it was starting get to the point where a coat of waxoyl would be a good idea, particularly if I was looking to hold on to the car for the longer term. I had my previous car ('91 Scirocco GTII) waxoyled underneath a long time ago, and it seemed to be a very good job.

Do people think this would be worthwhile?

What sort of price should I expect to pay?

Any tips or specific things to look out for or request?

Hey all. I have just had my car on a ramp... and the cobra exhaust checked as the exhaust clamps had rusted through. I was shocked by the amount of rust. EVERYWHERE... The sub frame under above the exhaust silencer and the just shocking. I wanted to know if anyone can recommend an place that can treat preferably by sanding down and treating them under sealing the entire underside. I am in West London.. let me know if you know a garage.. possibly how much you paid if you had it done.

Hi All, Outdoor Car Cover given white watermarks on the roof and bonnet of my yellow gt4. Not happy. Will try teecut and see if the bout of hot weather brings the colour back. If not body shop. Looks like water got into the clear coat. Car cover destined for bin.

I have three very small areas of what I imagine is rust under the paint surface of my passenger side rear wing. Under previous ownership, I think this area was subject to a repair as there are also some bits that look like thin short grooves (filler?) I suspect the job wasn't done too well. There are some acne like bumps too. Attached are some not very good close up photos. Could it be rusting through from the inside

The largest area is about 6 x 3 cm whilst the other two are about 3cm circles. The acne pimples are about 3mm across.

I'm wondering what my options are. What do people think? Is it worth taking to a body shop for strip repair and respray (cost?) or can I replace the panel? Has anyone done such a replacement, if so how hard a job is it? Is it important to make sure I have good wax coverage in this area to stop moisture getting it through the paint surface? Any thoughts welcome.

Been a member for a while but have only viewed for information. So out of the darkness hoping for some advive and assistance. The car is desperate for a respray got some rust patches on the front wing and wheel arches in places quite bad. Could anybody recommend a company for a bit of restoration and respray (silver) in the Dover, Folkestone area. Would consider slightly further away for the work. Unsure how much I should be looking at for the work too. Thanks.
