Which air intake should I buy?

All of the intakes currently available offer the same power gains. There isn't one that is "better" with regards to power gains.

What is really boils down to is how much do you want to spend for what "quality" of intake? Generally the NISMO/AEM is considered to be the highest quality intake available -- it's also by far the most expensive. The other intakes available are of similar quality with similar prices.

The work required to install each intake is very similar.

CAI vs popcharger (WAI). Which is better?

The CAI generally keeps the temperature of the air drawn into the engine about 20-25 degrees lower than the short ram. The temperature of the air taken into the engine also increases less than the WAI does at a stop.

What does this mean, in terms of performance? Generally, for each 10 degrees you drop in temperature, you gain an additional 1% in horsepower. This would mean the CAI would be putting roughly 3 more hp to the wheels than the short ram. Is it worth the extra cost? Well, that's up to you to decide.

Who makes intakes for the Z?

Which is the best Intake

This is akin to asking which color is best for a Z. the primary differences between intakes is the sound, cost, and visual appeal. While a Gruppe M carbon fiber intake is a work of art the cost may put off some potential buyers. Do some research, read our product rewiews and buy what feels the most comfortable to you

How much do intakes cost?

Intakes vary in price and can range anywhere from $110 to $1100.

What intake plenums are on the market and which is the best?

The two out there that most everyone has is either the kinetix or the crawford. the kinetix is plastic where the crawford is oversized and you lose your front strut bar because it will not fit. Problems with kinetix are those that get them sometimes overtorque the bolts which cause it to crack.

What intake produces the MOST HP gains?

In reality the "gains" that you will get are going to be so minimal w/ any intake you won't be able to tell when driving. They look pretty though.

How much power will I gain from an Intake

Intakes vary widely between manufactures but the general consensus seems to be 0 to 5 horsepower. More importantly this horsepower appears to be delivered in the upper ranges of the power band. What is really boils down to is how much do you want to spend for what "quality" of intake? Generally the NISMO/AEM is considered to be the highest quality intake available -- it's also by far the most expensive. The other intakes available are of similar quality with similar prices.

General

Will modifying the MAS increase airflow into the engine

No. it will just reduce airflow over the MAS and give inaccurate readings to the computer, which will set off your Check Engine Light (CEL). This is especially bad at low rpms; your car may not even be able to idle without stalling if you do this.

What is an intake?

What is the difference between short ram and cold air?

Do I need to make any changes after I install the intake?

Will intakes affect my MAF?

Will adding an intake increase my chances of ingesting water?

Although uncommon, ingesting water into the intake and thru the throttle body can be a costly mistake. Cold air intakes that are not equipped with a water diverter valve can potentially ingest water if the condition is right. Short ram intake owners need not worry.

If I plan on turboing my car should I buy an Intake?

Unless you think it's absolutely necessary that you have an intake until your turbo is installed, the answer is no. All components of a short ram or cold air intake would need to be removed prior to a ST or TT installation.

Installation

Will an intake void my warranty?

Your warranty cannot be voided because of a simple intake. If there is a problem, the dealership has to prove beyond doubt that the intake is the direct cause of the problem. Read the law here: Link

How hard is an intake to install?

Intake installation is one of easiest mods you can do to you car. See the following links for detailed install instructions: Injen CAI Install, Pop Charger Install. The work required to install each intake is very similar.

How often do I clean the filter?

This varies from unit to unit and your local conditions and driving styles. A safe bet would be to clean your filter during every oil change.

Trouble Shooting

I have a whistleing noise coming from my aftermarket intake.

Yes. A hissing or whistling noise from the intake at various RPMs is normal. The stock intake had resonators to eliminate noises. Aftermarket intakes are, for all intents and purposes, a pipe with a filter on the end; no resonators
